In July I will be moving to FoCo/Loveland area, having a house built for me, I was wondering the same thing. When my wife and daughter were house/land shopping they experience nose bleeds. So I'm installing a whole house humidifier. I was wondering whether a RO system needs to be installed? Where I live the water is very hard, so it needs to be treated.

RO system or not?

Thanks:blowbubbles:
r/o is a personal preferance my waters PH from tap is 7.2 i have hi alkali content in my water. i personally dont use R/O if you choose to remember you'll most likely need to raise your water PH with and w/out ferts in it.

Hello??

Hello??

Am finishing up my first outdoor grow and have a few questions...first I want to know if anybody is around here? =)

Have quite a bit of indoor grows under my belt that have turned out nicely. But I just don't know if my outdoor grow is "ok". Smells good, but the buds are smallish(what I believe people call "popcorn" buds).

Strain is SSHxAD(gifted from a good friend). Am very excited to try it, but am uncertain about harvesting time, and a few other things.

Anyone want to give out some advice?

BTW---night temps here are around 45-50, and daytime 75-80.

They look like they need about 2-3 more weeks.

Thanks for any help in advance!:thank you:

hey there...what i do when testing for ripeness is take a lower branch and quick-dry it in a paper sack. it still takes 24-36 hours to make it smokable and it'll be green tasting but not as bad as if it was dried any faster and it'll give you an idea of where you're at. the popcorn buds may be the strain. i'm trimming up some old c99xkush right now (my seed but a neighbor grew them since last May then gave em to me last week...yes, i have a very good neighbor!) and had to do a test like that because outdoors, the hairs tend to age quicker than indoors so it's not a good judge. i wait for 10% or so of the glands to turn amber before testing for ripeness and if it feels right they get chopped.

i should add...my neighbor wants the trim...i get all the flowers and all he wants are the leaves and those little half-done buds from the interior. it's a crazy world...

yup, same as always! just haven't been online as much as i used to...no reason other than got busy camping in the the Sierra Ancha's north of globe over most summer and doing other stuff! but with winter coming on i'll be around more. starting up the indoor again for the first time in several years and will be looking for advice on a co2 system when the time comes for it.

and we're coming up to Vegas in 10 days (fair warning, joesy...lol)

Hi Del(and ResinRyder)~
Thank you for the quick answers. I really appreciate that!
You are right on about the hairs turning amber outdoors sooner than they do indoors. One of the first things I have noticed.

I used my little radio shack magnifier to check the glands on the 3 different plants(all the same strain).
One is 90% clear
One is about 80% clear
and the last one is about 75 clear. Not much amber in any of the glands yet.

The strain is Super Silver Haze X Angel Dust. I read that SSH finishes at the end of October? That sounds about right to me, so I just have to watch out for an early frost.
But, I am unsure of 'what is a good smoke'? If I harvest at the end of October, and, say the trichs are still mostly clear, then I have more of a "head high", and so what? My preference is a "happy" medium, slightly heady---giggles---with a bit of relaxation and pain relief.
Now, AD does a great job(alone) for pain and insomnia. I have no idea about SSH? What is your(or anyone here) experience(s) with the smoke itself, and of the grow outdoors?

Guess I am just trying to figure out HOW/WHEN to get the best of both worlds with this grow. And I am not sure I can articulate the exact point I am trying to make....other than : What is the best harvest for this combo strain?
I will do a "one toke smoke" test tomorrow. I did harvest a few buds off the plant with the most amber glands. But how do I know for sure if it could be better? Argh!!! Am just going in circles I guess.

One more thing Del---I have never grown anything with small buds(because I have only grown strains that are all or mostly Indica). So....it doesn't make a difference in the smoke if the buds are "popcorn"? People are always so thrilled with the "big dank buds", but in reality, isn't it all in the strain and how it smokes? Not how big the buds are???

Anyone else reading this, feel free to chime in! I always appreciate any input/help I can get.

p.s. To my friend that gifted these to me, if you read this, thank you again, and give any words of wisdom you feel like sharing.

Peace and love to all~ :ying:

At my house, popcorn goes straight in a paper bag for hash or edibles.

It's not that the quality is inferior, it just that life's too short to trim popcorn!

The haze I've grown outdoors never did get the long spears either...it wasn't a good producer (I did Neville's Haze) until I added its pollen to a C99 female the same time I made that Afghan X C99 I'm chopping now...this was in 2001 and have kept the 1,000's of seeds in the fridge and they're still good! Down to the 100's now though...but still plenty to share. It's an excellent outdoor strain and finishes like now! Stony buzz too...more C99 than Afghan (at least with the seeds planted last May).

The small buds...I've noticed little difference in potency in regards to size. I usually keep most of those finger-tip buds for myself.

And once those glands turn milky it's not long before they go amber then brown. Seems like they're just days apart once the temps start dropping and you won't be seeing much more growth either. Maybe a little fattening up but once they get a taste of 40's they seem to pretty much stop growing. And it should be almost harvest time by then anyways!

Next year plant some indica's and harvest no later than mid-October...often mid to late September. We had this one strain I got from Bongblaster (remember BB?) called 'sticky #3" which was a Chronic offshoot, if I remember correctly and very very smelly. It would finish bu the end of August to first part of September! Sly1 was around then and he saw it and sampled the awesome results...wish I still had some :(

CORRECTION...the "Sticky #3" was a Chemo offshoot...not Chronic.

Bru,
I know that many, myself included, have obsessed about the turning of color in the glandular trichs. Everyone seems to want to take things at what they consider a peak time.
Here is my take on sativa...especially outdoor late finishers; There is really no bad time to bring them in. The idea of a plant being completely finished is a bit in the eye of the bee holder. Yeah, if the plant is let go the trichs will give an indication that all practical resin production is done, to a point that degredation of the resin takes place. (that is in essence what the trichs are showing us...that they are done and a chemical change starts to take place. But IMHO just because the glands have went through all they can go through does not mean they will contain the best buzz. Again, "best" is a subjective term. And also consider that some sativa will not show amber in the trichs at all.

If I know I am working with something that finishes late, I will try to keep them out until just before the first freeze. Hardy plants can usually take a little bit of frost and keep going. But there is about a 3-4 week period that you may see a difference in end volume by waiting, but the buzz is going to be the same no matter when you take it. In fact, most plants are going to be real close in buzz and taste no matter when you take them. The thing about taking early makes it heady, and late makes it body heavy, is a bit overstated. That tends to work out somewhat with full on indica, but I have not really seen much difference in buzz in those taken early and those left till the freeze.Taste is effected more than anything when comparing early and late taken sativa plants.

The mother of your plant was a very long flowering SSH and I think I took her at about 16 wks indoors. She could have went longer as she was very hazy leaning. A monster she was too. It seems you are familiar with Docs AD. My hope was that it would tame the large structured, long flowering SSH into something manageable yet potent.
I hope you enjoy however it turns out. And remember that an F1 will throw on average a 1:3:1 ratio, where 1 is like mom, 1 is like dad, and 3 will be mixtures. That is only considering large populations, but you may find that a sister seed grows something a lil diff. from what you have now. (shrug)

Much love and respect....

Ok my dear friends...I am going to harvest 2night, and then at the end of the week.
I did indeed try a teensy bit of the bud I brought in to dry the other day. One hit wonder for me! Yep. I don't need more than one hit on this one and it does the work for me.: Happy(not paranoid)...a little creepy(but I am ok with that), and then...I forgot that I hurt and was able to clean my laundry room out!
So, thank you all for the tips, each letter had something(s) in it that I learned from.
BTW---I know some of my clients with depression will like this one. And too me, if I can just help one person feel better then it is all worth it.

love & peace to all, as always~

hello all

Anyone know what has become of the site cannafarmer. Was hoping it might become a somewhat local version of ICMAG.

Peace

Hey Guys,
Have any of you ever ordered from a place called "The Attitude"? I hadn't either...usually I order from Nirvana, but had some weird processing issues. So, I tried this Attitude site.
If you get in the mood, go check it out and tell me what you think. Just google it, think it is the first thing on a search.
Always like to hear others opinions on new seed banks(and other stuff too...you know me).
Hope you ALL are doing well.
Kisses and hugs to all you handsome men.
peace out~
