What stage are they at now? It's important to not just jump into this at whatever stage. It's just good to have a strategy as far what what size and shape of plant you want at the finish.

petiole...that was the other term. peristem was a term I picked up from a flower grower years ago.

That is exactly the idea. I'm sure you are glad to have all those branches getting full lighting. Plants look healthy with full deep color and texture to the leaves. Looking forward to the update.

Forgot to mention that that is a very nice first grow. You have been reading extensively to arrive at that setup.

Its safe to say that in the amount of time I spent reading and acquiring my gear, I could have grown and cured a crop.
this is my first grow and i had the light tooo far away due to insufficent ventilation... live and learn(and im doing ALOT of learning)
how would this tek work in a vertical setup? im sure itll work fine but im curious if this tek would be as efficient/impressive as it is in horizontal gardens
It valid to remove leaves anytime, anywhere. The more you practice the more you can see the results and the more you can adjust it and use it to your advantage. This is a management technique that includes bending/training for maximizing space and premium light. It's fine for outdoors, too, if you are trying to keep that girl from reaching over the fence into the neighbors view or from pushing the top of the greenhouse.

I spend an inordinate amount of time designing and mentally visualizing any project.
Just finished my 1st round of defoliating. Heres a before and an after pic. I noticed that the tops didnt have much leaf to strip off. The leaf was thicker towards the bottoms of the plant. Im at day 16 today so my next defoliating will be at day 32. Ill update here on a weekly basis. Peace LL

Just finished my 1st round of defoliating. Heres a before and an after pic. I noticed that the tops didnt have much leaf to strip off. The leaf was thicker towards the bottoms of the plant. Im at day 16 today so my next defoliating will be at day 32. Ill update here on a weekly basis. Peace LL

just from that after picture i can see the budsites alot clearer and a few more, i might try this method with 1 plant or 2 and compare them to the rest..

This is my 2nd grow, ever so i'm trying to proceed with caution and learn as much as possible. With the enormous wealth of experience on here, would you suggest I trim this more, or is this good to go? These are purple kush, almost 4 weeks into veg. I just trimmed the shit out of them, they were so bushy with giant fan leaves you couldn't even see the stalk. I don't want to trim them too much or fuck them up since they've been growing good and healthy once I cut down on watering, I was watering too much before. Thanks!

the only thing ive noticed back in the day was the resin production. i left i plant totally covered in leaves and the rest of the batch naked. when harvest came, the dressed plant was very noticeably covered in more trichomes. and even the nugs that would seem "shaded by fan leaves were ripe and coated. from then on i just decided to strip off the bottm 2/3 of the plants or branches after 2 weeks of 12/12. all the tops got heavy and coated, and no pests or popcorn below. that was just my findings, everyone has different needs subject to their strain, grow etc, d

Good job. I would have stripped more but that gets the light in there. I'm sure on round two you'll be encouraged by results to do even more.
That's fine for now. The overwatering is obvious from the turn-down of the leaves. You don't want to overdo it if there is stress involved. I think they'll pull out just fine.
Be sure you don't allow the leafy ones to crowd out the 1 or 2 defoliated plants. This technique allows and manages crowding and intertwining so it doesn't mix well with really leafy neighbors. Just be sure everyone has their share of light.

NOW DATZ WHUZUP!This subject is bound to raise a lot of disagreement. Please relate experience and photos.
Lets start by defining "defoliation" in the context of this technique. The term has negative connotations as Cannabis has been the target of defoliation by the Feds using Paraquat chemical defoliants. This is not what this is about.
This technique is about leaf removal by hand. It is employed to relieve shading in crowded conditions. It is a substitute to the popular technique of removing lower branches.
Defoliation encourages branching in vegging plants in the same way as nipping the leader. The benefit of this technique is that the leader is retained to continue to create branches. It also shortens nodal length creating a more compact specimen.
This is how the following plants are capable of yielding as much as 12 oz. in an allotted space measuring 32" cubed.
Leaves are removed starting in veg stage when they are about 6" tall with a couple of sets of fans. Leaves are removed again every 2-3 weeks or whenever things get a little shady.
3 decades of experience with this technique reveal that bud growth benefits more from light exposure than whether the corresponding fan leaf is present.
The idea with this method is to not remove any bud sites like in the aforementioned technique of lower branch removal. Bud sites produce bud. Do not remove. This method allows light to penetrate to all bud sites, not just the top buds.
This technique should not be done on plants that have not been prepared by defoliation from the beginning.
Observers will be shocked at the nakedness of a fully plucked skeleton of a barely flowering shrub. They will be even more shocked at the results after a few weeks. These results will debunk any insistence that big shading leaves are necessary for good bud production. Besides are we producing buds or leaf.
hey all has their been any mention about the age of leaves? when i do trim leaves (which isnt much tbh) i try to take off the older ones as leaves slowly lose their photosynthesis efficiency as they age. im actually thinking about marking all the leaves late veg/early in flowering and then removing them later, allowing the newer leaves to do their job.

what ive heard about this indica strains do better with the strip .i stripped mine twice and they finish at60 or63 days this time they still had white pistils .i dont know but i think the strip slowed them down .i think i took to much off.ive read leave afew top fans on .ill leave more the next time .still dialing them in .if you get a new strain .just try it on a couple plants .it does work .later
