Deep Chunk

Progress report on Freak Chunk.

Of the 13 seeds in my pack, 10 popped leaving 3 un-popped at the time they went down for the dirt nap. I use seed starter trays with ten sites. This made it easy to keep the three that did not pop separate since I put the ten in their own tray. Of the three, two made it above ground, meaning two of the ten to initially pop did not make it above ground.

They got off to a rough start. I did not start them in a starter mix but rather cut my normal soil mix with some extra perlite. This may account for the three that never surfaced. Early days had me thinking there's a reason the line is dubbed "Freak" Chunk.

Some interesting deformities/deficiencies:

In the pic above, the one to the left (featured below) has shown to be the outlier.

And, group currently:

They seem to have benefited considerably from being potted up and moved farther from the light. Not sure how this is going to play out. I may need to take cuts to flower out later. Little tight on space at the moment. Will report back when they're sexed.

I like that type with broad based leaves. Some of the Deep Chunk plants I have seen and grown have narrow tapered leaves where they connect to the leaf stem/petiole. I guess it depends on growing environment and maturity. Its all the same genetic. They have intense light there, so maybe fatter leaves.

Thanks for sharing. Going to be some good medicine, those are the most indica plants. :smoke:

I like in a mostly catholic country...no frankincense in THH P1 females I used...

I think Tom is right....Thai in it

Cathedralicious smells if you make proper selections lol

Run out of frankensense, you can breed cannabis to produce the smell. Thats great! Really special plant, given to us by God for our good. Yeah different varieties of DC will have slight variations depending on breeding history. :smoke:

So interestingly enough, the narrow leaved pheno that I thought might lend credence to the claim that Freak Chunk is not pure DC, turns out to be spoken highly of; by Tom. I was surprised to hear such a pheno even exists. Supposedly a more cerebral head accompanies it (imagine that!) Anyone else listen to the interview and have some thoughts?

(even if more narrow-leaved it still has that 'prehistoric' look... )

I also did not find any incense in the THH. I have a pack of Tom's Deep Chunk I was thinking about open pollenating and was thinking to hit a bit with frozen THH pollen. Did Tom make that cross already? Is that what he was calling Monkey Haze or Monkey Balls? The old forum with that info is closed isnt it? Theres probably a ton of useful info in there...

I am also interested to get some new reports on the smells and effects from everybodys recent Deep Chunk runs which seem to be a few right now. @Tonygreen @Hammerhead and the others

Peace

I just noticed this reply.. The F2 generation is the result of a cross between two F1 individuals. DC F1 x DC F1= DC F2 or am I missing something?. I understand the hybrid part. I can't find anything that says it has to be a hybrid for the filial to change. Is there something you can recommend I read about that? All I can find is that When we cross two F1 individuals (whether landraces, hybrid or polyhybrid varieties), we obtain the second filial generation or F2, and so on with the next generations, F3, F4, etc. The second filial generation often gives a more heterogeneous offspring than the F1

When selecting plants in the f1 generation I look for traits I like. Breeding those F1 female selections with the f1 male selections makes an F2. Those F2 filial traits I selected should be present more often as long as its not a poly. Keep doing this in ea Filial generation until I'm satisfied.
I know I am very late lol but I think what they meant is it can only be F2 seeds if they come from a F1 hybrid. If the parents are F5 let's say, the resulting seeds would be F6. I think that must be the misunderstanding.

I was confused when he said MB wasn't an f2 unless it's a hybrid. I've read a lot of books on this. As far as I know, it's not a hybrid.. From what I've read poly hybrids are less heterogeneous than a hybrid. Whenever possible use hybrids or landrace.

This is Seedsman MB description
HazeMan had some DC F1 seeds to make this DC F2 giveaway of Tom Hills creation. The effect is very strong and long lasting. The yield of this plant is very high. Expect the flowering time to be anywhere from 54 to 64 days. This is another old Classic brought back just for the holidays.
It just surprises me that hazeman states high yield, when everyone knows its miniscule. Its unike hazeman, as his gear is as legitimate as it comes

This ^^ is the mother of Panama x DC F1

After that, Kaiki made DC (f) x Panama P1 reversed pollen....
@Raco what was his reasoning behind using the sativa as the pollen donor? I've always used sativa as the receiver but equally have always wondered what the outcome would be if I went the othereway

Doubt anyone would have a grow log as the preservation has only just been done. It's open pollination so will get everything the line has to offer. Don't sleep on them

What do you guys think about the Humboldt CSI Deep Chunk? Anyone have a grow log of them?

Oh so they just came out? I should probably pick one up. It was being discussed earlier, I will have to look around to see what was said.

Thank you for letting me know they have just been done. There were only 16 packs available it said yesterday! After I got one and a couple hours went by it was down to 13 ct! Glad to be able to get this reproduction of the original '03 Deep Chunk stock! Can't wait for spring!

Will be preserving it and also breeding with the Deep Chunk hybrid line I've been working with. Awesome! I was under the impression it wasn't that good but someone was talking about Humboldt Seed Organization.

Tom Hill was on The Potcast and a couple times he mentioned his friends at CSI, so it looks like this is it. Looks like Tom passed the torch to them, but he may do a reproduction in the future.
