NBC has a popular television program titled, "Dateline NBC: To Catch A Predator," which catches child molesters by luring them to a house where there is an adult posing as a child waiting, along with the local police. Many of ya have probably seen it.
Tonight NBC aired another version of this idea, titled "To Catch An Identity thief." Here their target was those bastards who are stealing our credit card numbers and such and emptying bank acounts. These thieves are pure shit and deserve to have their asses put in jail...so this show is doing a good service.
The process that NBC used to catch these thieves was quite different from the scheme they used to catch child predators. NBC basically set up a phony internet based company that sold electronic goods (cameras, mp3's, etc) that didn't require any proof of identity when taking credit cards as payment, and they also posed as thieves in web chat rooms where stolen credit card numbers are traded and sold, and promoted this website as one where these stolen cc numbers could be used to buy goods without getting caught.
NBC also set up a fake delivery company, so that when these goods were ordered, they would be able to deliver the goods to the addresses where the items were being sent...hopefully to the identity thief. These addresses typically turned out to be innocent people who had also been duped by the identity thieves to act as middlemen...who then shipped the goods to oversea locations.
This show got me thinking. This exact scheme that NBC came up with to catch these identity thieves could be used to catch we growers of the golden herb. They could set up a fake internet company selling grow equipment, sell at real low prices to encourage folks to buy from them, use a fake delivery company to deliver the goods, and enlist local law enforcement to assist once the homes were identified.
That begs the question...why would they bother to do that? Well, our favorite plant is demonized by many, and NBC is interested in primarily one thing only...ratings! Just think of the show they could put on if they brought their cameras and lights into some of the impressive grow rooms we have all seen on thread here on IC. And they would get the additional props of saving "THE CHILDREN" from "DANGEROUS DRUGS".
This is all hypothetical, and very likely won't happen. But, it can't hurt to keep this in mind when deciding on who to order our grow equipment from.
Thoughts?
