Hey dankwolf thanks for telling me about this thread, i read the first few pages and will read through all when i have more time :)
I have 1st hand grow knowledge of what i guess people are calling RKS...
I grew about 5 different strains of it in the late 80's to about 2000. The best came from down south KY, Tenn, Ohio, Indiana area.... just called it the Skunk...
I don't think it was ever stabilized like some strains are now. I popped a lot of seeds and maybe i out of 100 had the super skunk reek, so i kept it alive under fluorescent light for like 10 years.
but i had others that were skunk too from seeds from some stuff out of missouri.
Ever hear of indiana ditch weed? it used to just grow in cornfields and along the side of the road. I had some of that that skunked up like crazy after curing, before just regular good weed smell
also i had a clone in the mid 90's like 94 i think that was said to be northern lights X purple haze that was very skunky and dank but not necessarily all RKS
also stuff that came from humboldt around 1990.
stuff that came down from canada also was skunk.
these were all outdoor strains and had some seeds so i just tried growing them. the only seeds for sale were from amsterdam back then and the strains i had blew them away.
i had a friend that grew a bunch from amsterdam .
also had aphgani brickweed that smelled kinda like Skunk and Tide detergent and got some seeds out of it and crossed with the skunk, it was insane.....
They all seemed to have herm tendencies from what i remember, but it's been 20-30+ years. I had some seeds i made with the herm flower of itself but lost them in 2003. I have some seeds of that era but haven't been able to get any to pop. I'll post some more as when i remember :)

we tried growing some of it outdoors in '88 and some of the plants got about 15' tall and you could smell them about 2 miles away, with buds about as big around as a soccer ball and a stem like a tree trunk... but also some of them would only get about 2 1/2-3' tall. the all reeked to high heaven but only one here and there was the SKUNK. If you did a stem rub it smelled kinda like rubbing a tomato stem. some of them kinda lost the smell after cutting but after curing it would get the skunk back, i always thought it was weird but. I usually hung a whole plant up leaves and everything then would just crumble the leaves off, dried about a week to 10 days then bagged and burped for a week then left alone to skunk up. I cloned the same small skunk one up for indoor growing, i tried growing everyway you could like hydro with rocks, rockwool, aeroponic, but the only way the plant really really reeked was when i did organic with a liquid bat guano and fish emulsion mix with kelp and a few other things that i think people used for growing African Violets. when i ran hydro it smelled way less.

Nice.

Just picked up a vintage Mac 10, fully auto, like 1000 rounds per minute.

Practically useless, but why not.

Not cheap.

Wasn't that from Federation Seed Co.?

Nice guns, I'm a huge fan too:) I've got a small collection going. I love Remington 700s, and do a bit of hand loading and bench shooting. I like building / accurizing rifles too, bedding, trigger jobs, barrel swaps etc. Like customizing a car, but you can shoot stuff with it:)

Wow..
That comment made my jaw drop.
I'm playing with some skunk seeds from '93 and a couple do smell like tomato stems on the stem rub.
Strong smell... Made me think of when I plucked weeds from under the tomato bushes lol

Grow on:D

Hell yeah! I always cured big colas and never trimmed the sugar leaves off..so i've been wondering if that helped the curing process?
I left all the big stems and cut off the buds later. It's been a long ass time but i remember some of the skunk smell would kinda fade away then come back like 6 months later after curing...
I had this happen in the mid 80's with some indiana ditch weed. I hid a bag in my closet and totally forgot about it for like 6-9 months. I found it cause it reeked like SKUNK and was like what the hell is this??? then i remembered.. It was just sealed up (no burping) for a long time and went from no smell to SKUNK..
think about how people did it back then..you think they spent months and months trimming and drying on racks? or did they just hang the plant in a barn or something?
I just hung whole plants and broke the leaves off after they were dry...
also on these forums i haven't seen anyone talking about seeded plants.. the skunk i got always had some seeds..and some of the best stuff i ever had was like 3/4 seeds..the plant is protecting its young(seeds) by making it stink to keep predators(smokers) away!

I had a clone somebody gave me called Skunk Special.. didn't have any skunk smell.. but the last time I ran it I pollinated it and the smell completely changed from a sweet smell to a catpiss smell. So profiles definitely change with seeded plants

Just to be clear . I dislike the term rks . Only reason I use it is to try and put a name on a Syrian known to some as trintty . Just FYI it went under many names . I pushed the shit out of it for years and have first hand expirance with the strain . In reality it was me nice haze hybrid crossed to a durbin poisen x Afghan .

The Mr nice part is not recalled by the crew . The Afghan was something they hand picked in the late 70s . The durbin poisen part was a landrace durbin .

Working on my own creation of the original . Just takes time to lock down 3 strains that fit the bill . Will likely do a 4 way hybrid

Ogkb 2.0 x cotton candy will be selected and crossed with a
The cure x ?

This is my missing part

Need a mass super skunk at moment in time . Or shore line cut .

Almost have the genetic material to resurrect a version.i could relese a unstable inbread f4 but it would be half ass and pointless . Need that stank in a f1 . Even I it's a poly hybrid

The very first plant i grew was RKS. Actually the first half dozen or so were.
I panted them in a field close to my house cause most of us in America at that time had a field near our house right? Well anyway, when I went to check on them a week after transplant, they reeked of skunk from 10 feet away and were broad leafed, some had double serrations and the leaf narrowed as they got more mature. I gave a few beans of her to a guy with a 1000 HPS and got to see her structure before chop. She looked like a cactus with monster donkey Dicks
See this field was used for everything from partying, to stashing the woods porn to burning stolen cars.
I was young and dumb and wish I still was the former. They were all taken or most likely eaten by deer.
I was gutted and the next year grew one in the hedge bordering our property. This plant literally got next to no sunlight and zero direct sunlight yet produced some of the most crystal covered fire buds ever! There was nothing fruity about the smells of them nuggets and I really couldn’t stop sticking my nose in the box. Woodsy, skunky, piney and hashy were what I recall for smells. The kinds of smells that alerted you to the greatness awaiting.
My tolerance was very low and I was really on that wannabe professional musician kick then, priding myself on not being like the rest of the neighborhood getting fucked up non stop etc. and just kept the buds for our annual camping trip to Vermont.
There was another guitar player in my neighborhood who traded me a drawer full of seeds for some midi cables and his whole family were bikers. We lived not too far from upstate NY and Canada. The RKS was coming from that area.
We lit one up on I-95 and all 4 of us immediately got very high, laughed our asses off and got snared by a speed trap by New Hampshire staties merely 10 minutes later. Well they found my stash, a plastic bong and wrote us up some tickets.
We still had a blast that weekend as 1 of my acquaintances from Burlington VT recognized us at this huge party in the Green MTNS and hooked up some really nice kind buds.
We are not just looking for a RKS smell. The buzz was literally transcendental, positive minded and clear too.
I hope we’re almost there in unlocking the secrets and also do feel it was Afghani based with a smattering of sativa somewhere in there. I don’t care for confusing head highs from buds. The real early girl had that going for her and so does the cherry pie. These types of strains are not for the creative type or for locking in with musicians in a jam band setting imo. They do fuck you up and you don’t know if your coming or going. Not my cup of tea.
Years later, another head had made connections on the front range and hooked us up when he got off phish tour in 1995. RIP Justin-I have lost so many friends to opioid addiction
The resulting seeds produced a profound and transcendental effect much like that first experience. It was supposedly Northern Lights and came from Phish wooks in Colorado
While I never truly became the professional traveling musician I daydreamed about, we did get to play in the basement of the closed Chanel night club on Lansdown street in Boston right behind the green monster after it had shuttered its doors. The owners wife had established a speak easy in the basement rehearsal space where there was a mini stage and served underage kids alcohol
Couple of things still confuse me. Did Sam collect plants and seeds for the foundation of Skunk#1 from a BOEL indoor grow that was popped by the pigs in the 70’s? I have read this tale more than once.
Secondly, AK47 still has the tire fire phenotype within it and I found it but did not care for it and is not the RKS.
Thirdly, I was gifted tres dawg way back when and the resulting phenos, while putrid and nasty, were not it either. Tres dawg had more sweaty gym socks and onions in it and while it was somewhat in the same ball park, it wasn’t it but then again I only had 7-8 females.
Lastly, there are many traditional afghani farmers still doing their thing and some are even on IG! It is easier to obtain a phone over there then running water. Many of them still don’t have electricity or TP for that matter. I can still speak the languages and understand them talking in the videos posted. We don’t have skunks on that high desert plain but the descriptions are very promising from dog shit to rotting meat.
My mothers family is not too far from the Kyber pass and her nose and taste buds are astoundingly accurate; to the point she can smell every single ingredient in a dish and recreate them from scratch. Being the curious type, she would often whiff my favorite buds and stated the diesels and chems grew in her village 70 years ago. She didn’t do this to encourage me to go collect seed or visit family. It is still very dangerous, even if you look the part and speak the language. My own immediate family have been victims of the Taliban. Everyone of us who has been in a war zone is truly traumatized beyond compare. The Taliban took my male cousins at gun point and when they refused to fight, shot them dead.
* Another known phenomena of smoking RKS backed up by my stoner group’s affirmation was that the first SHIT you took the next morning literally smelled like a rotting skunk! I swear if you were there you remember what I’m talking about
That’s my story so Happy holidays to all my fellow heads and mentors on this site

But tomatoes remove skunk smell, everyone knows that.

You can learn alot about a plant by understanding how and why the different fatty acid derivatives are produced. You don't need a lab to understand a plants potential, just an education on this basic principle: everything happens for a reason in the plant.

@drewsif a quick search proved to be lots of fun, thank you

"Within the oils, the volatile compounds that contribute most to tomato leaf scent are (Z)-3-hexenal, limonene, hexanal, (E)-2-hexenal, eugenol, 1,8-cineole, caryophyllene, beta-phellandrene, humulene, and linalool"

(Z)-3-hexenal;
"cis-3-Hexenal, also known as (Z)-3hexenal and leaf aldehyde, is a colorless liquid and an aroma compound with an intense odor of freshly cut grass and leaves.[1][2] It is one of the major volatile compounds in ripe tomatoes.

i def remember some of the skunk plants would smell like freshly mowed lawn until it cured then would reek like skunk.

I just talked to a few old timers over the holidays and they remember the SKUNK always coming from bikers... only really seeing it in the midwest and also using Monkey Paw and SKUNK interchangeably as for what to call it . and the SKUNK always having seeds in it...........
