not to be too off topic from rks

honestly, with the smells you describe, the stinkiest i've ever had is stardawg. there's lemon, skunky funky, rotty smells, cheesy smells, even poopy smells in some phenos. i've smelled allium, mentha, and basil all in this strain. incensy, chemmy (that chem smell i cannot describe), acrid, body odor, pussy, gas/ diesel (at least what i think ppl smell when they say that), pine... it's always an olfactory bomb when i buy it from the dispensary. same with ONYCD, and the guava incross stardawg to a lesser extent.

greenpoint seeds have the copper chem, too, which is much cheaper than any topp dawg seeds. chem4 clone and their stardawg male.

i miss the super duper skunky smells, and when i drive over a dead skunk i get nostalgia, but i feel like stardawg and other chem crosses come close enough to sate my nose's appetite. i honestly didn't think about smells much until stardawg. if that's not enough, the balanced head/ body effects, coupled with the great after work decompression/ destressing effect & high caryophyllene content... chem family genetics are where it's at.

Thank you for your input . all is welcome and helps narrow down a direction .

I plan to hit a chem / og fem with some strawberry dissel / chem 4 male vary soon . can't Wiat . :tiphat:

Currently I'm growing some Durban Poisons from a Dutch seedbank and these are skunky as hell. My carbon filter can't handle it. The entire house smells like a beer brewery...

I have read somewhere that Sam The Skunkman crossed the original South African Durbans he got from Ed or Mel (?) with his Skunk in the late 70's or the early 80's. I don't know if he used his Sweet Skunk or that he used the original Skunk.
The seeds I'm growing now originates from the seedbatch of Durban Poison that Sam The Skunkman took with him when he went Holland.

Being an European I don't know how RKS smells like. But I can say that mine Durban Poisons are rank and skunky as hell, this while I was hoping to get some sweet anise smelling ones.

Durban poison doesn't usually smell like skunk.

It wasn't sweet skunk back then, it took him years to make it breed true for "sweet".

In the 30 yrs that people have been trying to redux Skunk x Affy, none have found RKS in that mix.

I found it this month in an African landrace line, and I found it 4 yrs ago in a PPP cross.

This is an interesting post. Looks like I'm not the only one who has found skunky plants in so called African lines.

Huh... if its Seedsmans Durban you're growing, I grew two African Buzzes, both were male. One stunk to high heaven. African Buzz is marketed as Malawi Gold crossed with a selected fast flowering Malawi Gold male...

Cotton Candy is a Power Plant (South African) X Lavender, correct?

My previous grow happen to be Power Plant, mine were skunky but not as much as these Durban Poisons I have now.

Have you ever tried these Dutch line Durban Poisons and compared them?

Not sure of the cure genetics, but that d star is 50% sour d. on my ds bx run, I got 50% d star phenos, 25% purple bb/grape, and 25% huge yielding diesel phenos.

With such a high % of offspring making the sour grade, sounds lilke a great cross to bring sour d line to the table. do you have the parent plants backed up?

Would you mind revealing the name of that seedbank? How many of your plants have the smell? I totally like the beer smell in cannabis. Yeah and how does it grow and look like?

Edit: I did a search and the only european Durban Poison with the same name are from Nirvana and Dutch Passion. But their former grow reviews speak another language. No-one spoke of skunky beer or beery skunk, so to speak.
Anyways, been trying to get this smell for years. So please, enlighten me!
Though I don't like up-high effects. I would try to breed the beer smell into some other BLD strain.

The cure

The cure

Bred from complex parallels to combine allot of genetic material from proven male lines of outstanding pedigree since the 70s. This limited seed line has secrets in it if nurtured well and selected with all one`s senses. There are very practical indoor plants to be found and old school aromas waiting to be freed into life.

Heritage: Af/Sk x HzAC
Category: Exclusive limited editions - New blends of old school genetics
Family of breed: 25% Afghan, 25%Skunk, 50% Haze
Breeder: Shantibaba
Preferred medium: Bio and Hydro, Indoors and outdoors/greenhouse
Expected yield: Expect 500 grams per m2 indoors and minimum 500 grams per plant outdoors.

Flowering period: Indoor flowering one should be able to find a 9 weeker but the range would be normally 10-12 weeks... depending upon the phenotype selected as a mother. Would not recommend for outdoors flowering in the Northern Hemisphere unless in a greenhouse and then it would require shading to complete the cycle. In the Southern Hemisphere June would be an expected time of completion, but too south again we would not recommend for outdoor flowering to completion as the cold and rains can inhibit the plant finishing properly.

Recommendations: For the grower who is keen to learn about Haze hybrids... so preferably not first time growers.

Special Notes: Not for the first time grower but it is capable to surprise those who do not get surprised at anything.
