Got to see them many times, once we smuggled a bong into the show lol.....

I see your point about the "violent lyrics," but i think you have to look at the cultural
context of the 1992 LA riot and the brutal tactics of the LA's anti-gang/anti-drug unit....that may or may not make sense to you......

The first album is more on the "gangsta rap" tip and the sampling/lyrical style is very cutting edge for that particular time period imho.....then the later stoned-out albums are much more chilled out and laid back.....

if you like Cypress Hill i recommend Justin Warfield's "My Field Trip To Planet 9".....really all of you trip-rap fans should get this one....

:ying: kind regards from guineapig :ying:

I probably wouldn't have started smoking weed if it wasnt for Cypress Hill. Saw em live in NYC in the late '90's. Amazing show! :D Everyone was smoking.

Lune: that's gonna be a great show man. You're lucky!

there is a true and funny story about the first time when cypress came to venezuela, they did a show in caracas. at some point b-real decided to jump into the crowd; when he came back on stage, all his bling had been stolen as well as his shoes hehehe... he got real pissed off, he got some stuff back, like his shoes i think, but not all the bling hehehe

Cypress Hill story:
I was stationed in Germany in he Army. I was "clearing" the base to come back to the states. My unit was pretty laid back & I was a good soldier so I didn't need to report in while I was clearing....so for 30 days I reported to no one & didn't need to worry about a random piss test. Now, during the 12 years that I was in the Army, I smoked weed maybe a total of 5 times....yeah, I was scared I was gonna get caught & didn't like the feelin of paranoia that I carried for a couple of weeks after smoking. Those random piss tests are eveil, I tell ya!!

Anyway, I had a real close friend named Chris that was in my unit. He smoked on the regular but no one knew. Him & I got high one nite....I went back to my barracks around 10pm, he stayed in his barracks (dorm) room to go to sleep cuz he had physical training @ 6am. So I'm sittin in my room & roll a jay with some nice hash sprinkled on top, cut my lights off, turn on Cypress Hill....and proceed to puff, puff, pass...to myself. Smoked about 1/2 the jay & put it out (remember I was basically a non-smoker, by force, during this time in my life so I could get pretty high relatively quickly. After awhile, 1 of their songs came on & I heard this little horn sample in the background of the song THAT I HAD NEVER HEARD BEFORE...after listening to Cypress Hill alot during the mid 90's. Man it amazed me that I had never heard that little horn & now it was so prominent. I got dressed...ran over to Chris' barracks & knocked on his door til he woke up....by the way, it's now past 2am!! LoL I ran to his room cuz he was the only person that I knew that could understand the mind of a "stoner" at that time...LoL. He answered the door, still 1/2 asleep, & I said "Look, man, u gotta hear this!!" So I proceeded to pop the cd in his stero & said....listen!! He did & said, "oookkaaayyy, what am I listening for?" My response, "What u didn't hear that little horn in the background of that song?" He said no. So I went on a 10 minute tangent with him in the middle of the night about how Cypress Hill's music REALLY, TRULY was "STRICTLY FOR THE BLUNTED", as that was their motto. I was convinved that it was not just their slogan, but that they REALLY meant it....kinda like you could only hear certain parts of thier songs if you were really high at the time...LoL. Chris was laughin at me the whole time

Then as suddenly as I had burst into his room at 2am.....I got up & left. That bastard got me back that morning tho....he came knocking on my door at 5:30am just to check & see if I wanted to do physical training that morning...freakin asshole...LoL.

Anyway, just wanted to share....hope it makes sense! Gotta go to work now

Peace!
