What medium are you using?

I'm in Promix HP, top dressing with vermicompost from my bin and Pure Protein fish hydrosolate. I have also been drenching with Boogie Brew tea each week and adding myco's to it each time.

I believe in having a strong microbe presence in my medium. Growing with microbes FTW!

Had to post this video which is not mine but just shows how amazing cobs can be and these are cheap chinese cobs underdriven to 36 watts:

Oh cool. Thanks for sharing! I didnt know about this guy before. :tiphat:

So nice to see someone else who agrees with me on the penetration aspect of COBs. PAR is PAR, whether originating from a Gavita or COB, the same micromole strength absorbed by the plant is still governed by the inverse square law determined by the distance between light source and canopy. With COBs, since you're spreading the unidirectional light source across a wider area, these fixtures would allow even more efficient distribution of those micromoles for photosynthesis. Gavitas despite being fantastic fixtures have that disadvantage in comparison to COB bars or matrix configurations.

I think with enough time and information other growers will catch onto the advantages of growing with COBs. The upfront cost is high, but that is more than compensated for and negated when factoring in cooling requirements and overall common sense.

I will get pictures of some popcorn nugs under the canopy of each table for comparison.

Under the canopy at day 42

Under the canopy at day 42

Here is what some of the popcorn looks like. I took these pics from underneath the canopy where no direct light was hitting these lower buds.

HPS DAY 42

HPS DAY 42

The HPS table is doing great. Although not as full and dense as the other two tables, these ladies are healthy and developing very nicely.

CXB3590 DAY 42

CXB3590 DAY 42

By far the fullest 4x8 table I've ever had. The buds are stacking and I fear I may have to add another trellis layer to this canopy if the buds continue swelling up like this. Very happy with the results from the CXB3590's and I'm glad that COBS can perform like this

These last two I took with some of the panels turned off. The white balance doesn't work so great with all the extra yellow.

That is one beautiful sight deceivers!

I do the same thing you mentioned early in the thread where you flower under mh for the first the first two weeks to reduce stress. It definitely helps a lot in reducing premature fading especially with strains like Tangie or Snow dog or other nitrgen hogs when growing organically. Got a figure in each of these plants aren't jolted overnight into the fall light spectrum....

These lights looks amazing! Great job to say the least:tiphat:

I don't think you'll even need that 2 weeks of mh with these cobs. They look like they are delivering a perfect light to those ladies.

One of these days I am going to have to get off my lazy butt and build me some of these. Talk about low stress on the plants....

Thanks for sharing your cob set up. Now I know what I'm getting for Christmas hehe.

Thank you for checking in and for the compliments my friend! :tiphat:

The crazy thing is that at 1750mA these COBs probably stress the plants too much. Next round I will have to focus more on the distance from canopy to fixture as the proximity now is driving the plants a bit too hard IMO. I will also need to up the number of fans cycling air to the COB table as their uptake in water/nutes seems to have increased.

The build itself isn't that hard once you get the basics down. I honestly believe that it's well worth the hassle to DIY your own

Damn, that's a beautiful grow

THank you! :thank you: Happy to have you along for the ride!

Not long now :)

I'm thinking of taking these to 65 days. Given that I have so many different strains I wanted to find a happy medium for when everything will be within the harvest window. I can't even imagine how much bigger everything will look then, I will definitely keep this thread updated so everyone here can see it for themselves.

Nice thread DZ. Youre right to measure the outcome by gpw as none of the light setups run at the same wattage.

Loc Dog - Im running 8 3590s at 1400 ma in a 36 x 42". I designed my light to be expandable to a 48 x 48". When my space grows, so will the number of cobs to 12. If I were running a 4x8, I wouldn't use fewer than 24 cobs at 1400 ma.

Based on my 4x8 16 at 1400mA cobs is more than enough.

Thanks. I was planning on 16 at 50 watts a piece. Money is really tight, but will invest as soon as I get rid of recent broad mite problem. Had one tent went bad and trashed all the plants in it. Have not had them anywhere else, but have to treat everything like they have them for a few months. Just blew about $400.00 on supplies for that.
