CocoSativas - I don't disagree with what you're saying about lighting and bulbs. I'm just not convinced of the difference and therefore the justification of the cost. I've run cheap and expensive lamps on good digital ballasts and have seen great results from beginning to end with both. When you factor in lumen depreciation and lamp replacement, the cost can get up there depending on the size of the growroom.

You are right about the new lighting technology. I've used one of the 315w CMH lamps and they have great color. I also have one of the Area 51 XGS-190's and it's a beast for a 2x3 ft area. I really want to try out one of the new lights with the white COB leds. From what I've seen online they look like real gamechangers.

This comparison grow results video is a good one too for anyone interested:

That's the beauty of growing we get to pick what gear we use. I can justify the cost, and have through experience found it worth it.

Plus I've never had a top quality bulb explode. I've blown a few cheapo... chalked it up to get what you pay for. I've noticed it in life and stopped buying cheap shit period. I've been happier since, I try to save where I can but spend where it counts.

Really all I can say is compare the spectrum of cheap bulbs to good ones. If that's not something that gets you thinking, watch some of the vids or whatever there's lots of testing the good bulbs pump out the Par, cheapie bulbs never proform the same even on good ballasts.

Hortilux actually shows the arc on good bulbs vs cheapie in their Ballast videos. You can really see when you use shielding the difference.

Have you seen the new hoods that sunlight is pushing. 2, 315 LEC's with a 1000w DE in the middle. All in one hood. A little bit of an odd configuration, with not being able to have independence height wise, but still nice anyways. I usually go with my horti blues as the larger wattage, and drop 1 size with hps, if I'm going 1 to 1. Or if same wattage, I use 2 blues to 1 super hps. Pretty nice balance of color and intensity.

I just got a 1000 watt MH Digilux. So far, so good :chin:

I think a digital bulb in a mag ballast is the best of both worlds..life-span wise?
