Cup Ideas

Independent Growers

420, more than just another cup!

420 has more to offer to independent growers, because of the ties with ICmag, the sales of seeds and the online forum. ICmag forum could act more as information hub, linking seed buyers with seed producers. Information on strain sales and performances!

The growers cup entry form could ask for more details e.g.:
* Strain statistics:
• Indica / Sativa
• Seed / Clones
• From seed: popping ratio / female ratio / pheno ratio or variance
• Flower period
• Stretch
• Yield per plant / per Watt / per square meter
* Grow statistics:
• How many plants per square meter / foot
• How many Watts per square meter / foot
• SOG, concentrating on many main cola’s / SCROG, pruning for many side branches
• What medium used? (Soil / Coco / Hydro)
• What fertilizer used? (Organic / Mineral)
• Any extra’s? (Booster / Hormonal treading / Foliar feeding)
• Yield per plant / per Watt / per square meter
• Curing, period after harvesting

With help of clinical tests the concentrate levels of THC / CBD / CBN can be pinpointed objectively.

The blind test results can be tied to the statistics above:
• Taste / Smell / Effect / Bag appeal / Total

The results of the blind test along with all other statistics can be presented to the participants in a so-called pivot table. With help of the spreadsheet everyone can make up their own top 3.

Endless selections can be made, e.g. on Taste, Effect, Flower period and/or Yield:
• Best tasting strains grown on soil
• Strains with strongest effect
• Strains with biggest yearly yield potential
• Strains with high THC and low CBD and CBN level
• Etc.

Also, I've put some effort in getting more Dutch growers to join the cup:

Gypsy, I have more ideas to improve the 420 Cup... basically, you can use the online forum to have a continuous evalution of participating coffeeshops... and a seperate section here on the forum will bring more promotional value... such augmented cup concept I would like to sell for you on commission base.

Yet I remain reluctant to share anymore of my ideas with you as long as you do no not want to sign a professional contract... without that I feel I cannot represent your businesses and sell to advertisers, coffeeshops and breeders... and I won't put more energy in this if my payback remains uncertain!

not to be an jerk, but i think you are getting a little too pushy with your venture ...

i'm also annoyed that you placed my PM to you on your public thread, without asking ! ... it seems that you are on a quest/mission to aquire as many favorable smoke reports on your Sage n Sour, no matter who you annoy. P stands for private not public.

Good luck with all your ideas...Perhaps you can present your plans to Mark Emery

SB, seems you don't have much familiarity with the use of private messages.

Your statement to Gypsy should have been made through pm, if you are truly a professional. Something like that is not a public issue, and if I were Gypsy after seeing this post I would most certainly ice you in regard to any and all business matters he may have considered you for. Not professional behavior at all.....

Also, if you posted Phil's pm to you, you violated his privacy, which is no laughing matter. I'd reflect on this if I were you, people will not have very much respect for a fellow member who doesn't respect others, especially in regard to privacy. Just some friendly input, of course you can take it or leave it.

too bad this could have been an excellent thread. the title sounds very promising.

but it has turned very odd. I personally am not into the coffeeshops competing in this event at all. It should be kept for independant growers and members of this ic community and friends. who IMHO grow much better weed anyway.

let us pick from all the coffeeshops, and the winning coffeeshops will get members writeups and postive feedback. where is the best coffeeshop not where is the best promoted.

keep it real
this is about growing great cannabis, not money.

you want cup ideas, ask me i've a ton, I have been to many on 3 continents.
quess what you can have them....... free, just let me continue my freedom.

I have meet with Sativa Bielva and i would hardly put him in the same category as Marc Emery. I'm sure he didn't think your pm was that private otherwise he wouldn't have posted it. Sativa has his shit together and i agree with him as to there should be alot more information on the strains and from the breeders themselves on how the grow their strains and what not. And i diffently don't think hes trying to get anymore ppl to comment on his Sage N Sour as everyone loved it in Amsterdam. Yeh i don't like the coffeeshops being invovled either. Only reason the Grey Area won at ICmag was cuz all the stoners didn't wanna go to the other coffeeshops. I agree with Sativa when he says different category for BIO and HYDRO as some of those entries were not flushed and hydro so almost killed me to test. Not judging next year forsure. See you guys there next year. Keep them ideas coming Sativa and disregard someothers comments.

OK, as Gypsy wants suggestions but I'm not trying to influence anything and I meant no insult Jube but I didn't agree that all he said was that great an idea is all. What do I know?

I have a lot of opinions too but I won't tell Gypsy how to run his event. BOG

Sorry

Sorry

I understand what ppl are saying and i agree that the "business" aspect should be private but i like the ideas of the breeders giving the info that we want. I just hope there will be more speakers and a more comfortable seating arrangement. Fat City sukd balls imo. Was way way to small and smoke was so thick from poor air ventilation could hardly see walking down the stairs. Well i hope next year will be as fun if not better. I really liked the Canal tours with Sensi seeds boats that should be done everyday. And the sample baggies sukd aswell. There should be small plastic cases for each sample as the sample just gets smushed to the plastic bag with all the crystals rubbed off the sample. Just another stoner with a dumb idea :yummy: . Sorry to raise any eyebrows. Jubei

That part AlexanderS, what the hell is this guy thinking? A good guy or not but thats a bit cocky talk..."and I won't put more energy in this if my payback remains uncertain!" Payback? Well how about a good pile of bullshit, nice ideas but hey, if theyre so important that they just cant be SHARED then maybe, just maybe, one should open a "Idea bank" style of a company and sell those ideas or something.

In the famous words of One Rodney King..

"Can't we all just get along"

This coming from a fighter.. LOL.. But for real man, Lets just come here to chill not argue. Come here to learn, talk to friends, As well as other good people Etc.. Now SB learned. I hope. He should use the PM's feature a lil more frequently.. Especially if its business. or personal. Lets move on.. Dont make a mountain out of a mole hill.. Again this is JMHO And what do i know..peace..

Now I didn't go to this years cup, which is too long a story, but I would like to go to next year's. So on that note, I have a suggestion, wherever we are, could we have a soft seating area for the grass smokers. I understand that some joints bomb the fabric and so most places have torture seating arrangements, but my arse goes numb before my head and that aint what I'm looking for. F.O.C.

one thing I spent a little time thinking about was yields. knowing how well a strain yields would be useful information, but I see no straightforward means to factor them in, except as someone's word. the same is true of many of the factors mentioned in the original post. that being said, I'm NOT a commercial grower, but I am a heavy toker, so yield matters to me. from my perspective, the payback is interacting with my peers and betters and hopefully attaining some level of mastery as a grower, and finding strains that help- me achieve my goals.

I already have a big list going of ideas for next year.
Things are going to be ALOT different and yes, Jubei I
agree with you...Fat City was a bit too small for the
amount of folks that did in fact attend, but the staff
at Fat City was GREAT and did everything they could
to make everyone feel welcome...if everything
goes to plan we should have a 'prime' location next
year...plenty of room! Stage for bands...etc, but we
must see if 1) they will rent it to us? and, 2) if we
can afford the rent when it's quoted to us.

As Bog has mentioned before in other posts, the 420
event was initially just a few folks who all gathered
at Gypsy's shop, Soma gave a talk there, there were
some boat rides at night, but there were no activities
and awards etc like we have now until 2004, and now
2005...each year it has grown in interest and attendance.

We are expecting the event to grow even bigger in 2006,
so all plans being made will be geared around this growth.

Is good to hear others opinions, am always open to hear
suggestions and ideas.

:friends:
Thanks!

Excuse me

Excuse me

Sorry if I didn't get my story out right... really, I'm not telling anyone how to run their business... I just have some good business ideas, some of it I liked to share with Gypsy... also, as he was looking for some help in sales, I thought I could assist in selling to advertisers... and coffeeshops... for that sales effort I would like to receive a commission...

Ideas on the 420 growers cup are my thoughts on what information I would like to receive after entering... that is shared with you all... and if you like it too, make it happen!...

Further I like to say that I have no bad feelings towards Gypsy... and maybe I'm just better off growing cannabis... continuing my hobby!!!

Sativa Believa,

I would like to apologise to you as I was flippant and somewhat rude on my first responce. I am sure you are a very nice guy and sorry if we got off on the wrong foot.

Jube, the idea about little containers appeals to me too because the judging had appearance as a catagory just like potency and taste. So it is a good idea.

As far as yields in the contest it seems going too far because the people sampling aren't actually growing it so that would be difficult. Next time I am going to make sure appearance isnt my worst score. My shipping packed my buds a bit and it cost me in the results. Live and learn. BOG
