Could anything else be wrong?

Okay my friend just traded some bud for a female sativa. It was starting to flower in a room with just sunlight from a big window. I told him if it looked good I'd do my best. He said it did, so over it came. This plant is about 6 feet tall, the stem is the size of a decent pencil. It's in a bucket full of ground dirt, because guess what it came out of dudes backyard.... From the soil line to about 2 1/2 feet up is absolutely nothing. Then the next 3 or so feet have about 10 budsites.

I take the pinestraw off the top, and there are thousands and thousands of little white bugs crawling everywhere, the whole plant was infested! Killed them off with Safer and 3 in 1 Shultz.

The plant is dying for an unknown reason on the edges of the leaves on some sites, doesn't look like yellowing or burn, just turns brown. They are also very brittle and dry even after watering. I misted the leaves lightly with water.

It also has blackspots on the leaves everywhere, which i think is insect damage or possibly pH, as i have red. I flushed the "soil" and fed it lightly some 5-1-1 fish emulsion and a drop of liquid karma. pH of 6.

so in conclusion the problems are currently, other than the soil and lankiness.

Leaves dying-
What kind of white bugs i have-

Any help would be much appreciated, as opinions. I'm not sure this would be worth it.

Coming from outside it could have a number of things..... sounds like for one the plant does not get enough all around light being inside by a window.....

Sounds like you may have had white flies or fungus gnats... were there flying ones when you shook the plant?

Were there bugs on the underside of the leaves?

can you fill out this information, I need more information about your growing conditions; the information you already gave in your post.... you do not need to answer the questions you already have..... but I need to know how often you were feeding your plants..

what size pots are your plants in?

I grew out a 6 foot tall sativa so I know what you are dealing with......

ARE YOU USING?

SOIL:
What STRAIN are you growing?
What was the establishing technique? (seed or clone?)
What is the age of your plants?
What PHASE (seedling, vegetative or flower) are the plants in?
What Technique are you using? (SOG, SCROG etc)
What size pots are you using? (Include how many subjects to pot)
What substrate/medium are you using? (percentage of perlite, vermiculite...etc?)
What Nutrient's are you using? How much of each? How Often? *Knowing the brand is very helpful*
What is the TDS/EC/PPM of your nutrients used?
What is the pH of the "RUN-OFF"?
What method of pH test was administered? Using Strips? pH pen?
How often are you watering?
When was your last feeding and how often are you feeding?
What size bulb are you using?
What is the distance to the canopy?
What is your RH Factor? (Relative Humidity)
What is the canopy temperature?
What is the Day/Night Temp? (Include fluctuation range)
What is the current Air Flow? (cfm etc.)
Is the fan blowing directly at plants?
Is the grow substrate constantly wet or moist?
Is your water HARD or SOFT?
Has plant been recently pruned, cloned or pinched?
Have any pest chemicals been used? If so what and when?
Are plant's infected with pest's?

Sounds like everything is wrong!

How about a photo of the plant to see if it is even worth saving.

Problem 1 - Sativa grown under window sun...

Problem 2 - 6 feet tall and the stem is only as thick as a pencil?!?! That is some sssttrreettcchh, friend! My 2 foot LUI has a stem thicker than a thick shovel handle.

Problem 3 - "Dirt" in the pot. Not only is this probably mostly sand or clay, but there would not be adequate drainage, and I can guarantee it has not been fed properly. It could have a number of issues, Calcium sounding like one with your crispy edge leaves. You need to transplant that thing into quality potting soil with 30% perlite, if this girl is even worth it.

BTW, using outside "dirt" is the surest way to introduce pest and disease to your plants.

Not even gonna guess on the pest(s) without pix of them or at least of the damage.

Do you have a good garden with a big light to grow a Sativa?

You probably fried the leaves some with that Safers and Shultz. Best to diagnose the pest and treat it specifically rather than blast the plant with everything and hope for the best.

Is it flowering? If so, 5-1-1- is the wrong fert to be feeding. You need a good complete bloom fert. Doesn't sound like this plant needs anymore vegging.

and what evidence do you offer to back up your diagnosis, oh master grower?

stenography is not a diagnosis.

let the plant get really, really dry before watering.

Never let the soil dry out completely, doing this will cause an issue with nutrients in the soil, especially when it's organics, letting the soil dry out will cause absorption issues.... never let it dry out completely, always keep the soil at least a tiny bit moist.

Paying attention still?

Paying attention still?

Hey guys thanks for the responses. I may have just had a revelation with this plant.... This thing was in heavy preflowering when i got it. They low light and bugs definatley got to it. BUT...They leaves have been dieing with older growth first, the plant also had about 50% of it's hairs changed to ref when i got it. Now they are all changed. I think i got this plant a few days before it was done flowering...
Since it was in a windowed room through they outdoor grow cycle i figured it flowerd with the minimal sunlight it had...
Any comments on this theory? Anything else that would make the hairs change?

Hi StickyIcky29A,
my first response when looking at the bugs would be to get rid of the plant (especially with all the other problems - soil - height).

Pest eggs can lay around for a long long time infesting your future grows.
Of course that depends on the pest, but it seems you don't have much to lose and lots to gain by throwing it away.

If you really wanna keep the strain, some cuttings would be your best chance since it will be easier to handle than a 6 feet tall bitch with so many problems.

i am sure some pics will help other growers help you get to a solution.
Good luck

Do nto worry about that, we are here to help, not to judge how good or crappy your plants look; if we were to judge we would not be here trying to help you out :O)

Wont upload

Wont upload

Took about 6 pics but i've been trying since last night to upload them. Either i get an error while uploading or when they do the preview is just a red X. And then it says invalid format. I've tried jpg and gif.
