Coronavirus.. outlook

Coronavirus live updates: Anthony Fauci says millions of Americans face infection, 200,000 could die..

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.usatoday.com/amp/2918869001

200.000? This is very optimistic. There were many voices around the world expectig 70% of the populations get infected. Let us reckon:

US got 320 Mio residents.

320.000.000 / 100 * 70 = 224.000.000

So 224 Mio are 70% of US population and if the CFR would be only 1% there will be

224.000.000 / 100 * 1 = 2.240.000

So only 1% dead people of 70% of the population means something about 2.25 Mio dead people. And if CFR would be 4% like in China the US will have about 9 Mio dead people.

Also before covid19 the US averages over 6K deaths per day, around 200K a month, over 2 million a year. For a little perspective.

With the same argument you could ask why all this trouble and anger about 9/11? Just because 7 or 8 thousand people died in the towers?

With 320 mio residents most likely the same number of people die every year by slipping in the bath tube.

it is just getting started here. were there more suicides than virus deaths in Italy, Spain, NYC, New Orleans, or anywhere else it is established & filling hospitals? compare apples to apples. suicides MAY go up, if wall street types find out they have lost their asses & decide to not take the elevator when leaving the building at the end of the day...

Suicides will go up if people will lose all their beloved ones.

A Nurse Shared A Harrowing Photo Of COVID-19 Victims To Show How Horrifying The Outbreak Is
“It is the ghastly reality of what we deal with and where some of us have ended up already,” the New York City nurse said.

Huge Development! …Now 3 International Studies Find Chloroquine With Azithromycin Shows 100% Success Rate(Video)

There are now THREE international studies — China, Australia and France — that found that Chloroquine with Azithromycin Shows 100% Success Rate in Treating Coronavirus in 6 Days
We have reported on the success of Chloroquine earlier today and this week.

President Trump announced on Thursday morning that the CDC had approved use of the drug in treating coronavirus patients

But tonight we heard more from Rep. Mark Green, a former Army Flight Surgeon, that the combination of Chloroquine with Azithromycin cleared the virus in 3 days in 100% of the patients in the study.

That is THREE international studies now that show the success of the Chloroquine treatment.

I suppose you could wait for a vaccine to be approved by the DEA/FDA .........

OPERATION CRIMSON CONTAGION 8-1-2019....

Crimson Contagion was a simulation administered by the Department of Health and Human Services from January to August 2019 that tested the capacity of the U.S. federal government and twelve U.S. states to respond to a severe influenza pandemic originating in China. The exercise involves a scenario in which tourists returning from China spread a respiratory virus in the United States, beginning in Chicago. In less than two months the virus had infected 110 million Americans, killing more than half a million. The report issued at the conclusion of the exercise outlines the government's limited capacity to respond to a pandemic, with federal agencies lacking the funds, coordination, and resources to facilitate an effective response to the virus.

The source within the source being the point in this post:

(*reposted from the other thread 'boots on the ground' where I left this earlier)
--------------------------------------------------------

Statements from a medical research professor at Oxford University.....
--------------------------------------------------------

March 29, 2020

""I would prefer hydroxychloroquine to the use of mefloquine unless mefloquine is dramatically better. MQ can cause neuropsychiatric problems. In vitro experiments have shown that chloroquine and better hydroxychloroquine inhibit viral replication in cells but also can be preventative.

No-one is allowed to talk about this officially in Europe. Authorities either want to push the obscenely expensive antivirals or just spread the virus to get ‘herd immunity’. Problem is the virus is an RNA virus that has a mutation rate, meaning that conceivably one can be repeatedly infected by different strains of COVID.

The best strategy is social distancing, early mass testing with quarantines of contacts of proven infected cases, and early treatment with hydroxychloroquine or probably better a combination to minimise resistance formation.

The government should also push widely available antivirals, such as Vit C, Vit D3, zinc etc.""
------------------------------------------------------

**Noting that other medical research publications have been sometimes critical of the primary drug(s) referenced in the above quote, I'm told that the emphasis on early intervention, with both anti-viral and anti-bacterial agents, along with ventilators, BEFORE the lungs become impacted, is the better path.

Other reports nearly completely blow chloroquine out of the water as anything effective, saying it's not true, but such conclusions are not entirely pervasive in number; there's clearly some disagreement among the medical pros.

The fellow in the interview posted above is a med researcher, so I'd take his input over others. Even if it's primarily hypothetical in nature.

The 'herd immunity' path sounds like suicide to some extent, given the reports of the virus morphing or mutating easily, and re-infection occurring.

Friend from the bush called this AM, wrapped around the axle to some degree, not only because a rumor he'd been given by a family member was untrue, but because of an infected person in an old folks' care facility here, where someone who is directly connected to both the remote area and the site where the aged person was infected, had been planning a trip between places.
---------------------------
The 63-year-old woman who passed away in Anchorage, at the Alaska Native Medical Center, had been social distancing, staying at home with her husband, running very few out-of-home errands, BUT reportedly had an underlying comorbidity in play (as have about 98% of fatalities to date, from what I've read). It's assumed that despite precautions taken, she likely contracted infection while running errands; the only real probability to be concluded.

As I told my friend in the bush when he called animated this AM, (we'd already cancelled a trip out to his place, as a matter of consensus, to deliver fuel and groceries, having intended to leave them tarped-over on a pallet in his yard, and spending the night in his skinning shack without seeing him up-close), that "No need to get 'wrapped around the axle' with recent knowledge of dodged bullets. Take necessary precautions and react accordingly if infected. If you get it, you get it."

My understanding is that, again, 98% of those who have died had an underlying secondary issue/comorbidity, and 48% of those had more than one underlying complicating medical condition.

In my opinion, getting excited, or angry, or too overly frightened, is like reacting in similar manner to a rain storm, lightning, etc. It simply is a thing in our midst. You either get wet or you don't. Take precautions, and be patient.

But in my 'hood, cabin fever is a way of being every year, to some extent.

As the T-shirt I saw on-line the other day stated, with a map of Alaska distanced from the Lower-48 States, and drawn to about proportional size in comparison, "Alaska; Social-Distancing Since 1959"

Hang tight, and stay safe. That's ALL we can do, short of diving off tall buildings or swinging from ropes, in which case we unfairly and selfishly potentially jeopardize others.

Great stuff Moose Eater, as always. :tiphat:

I'd like to hope this thread stays dedicated to being informative as far as treatments being used, prevention and testing.

Plenty of other threads for the blame game and partisan political bullshit. Also the economy is what it is I don't think many here are largely affected by the 30 companies that make up the Dow Jones.
