Influenza got a case fatality rate of 0.1% and this virus 3 - 4%. 0.1% means one of 1000 infected people dies and 4% mean one of 25 people dies.
No, influenza kills not more people. For sure not. This virus kills more people. Much more.
And this 4% dead people are registered, what means they were in hospital and got modern medical treatment and nevertheless 4% died. I'm sure the case fatality rate will be much higher, when the hospitals are crowded with panic-fueled people and run out of beds and meds.
On youtube a couple of footages can be found with interviews of people living in Wuhan right now. They all tell the same: There is no help and because of that they stay in their flats. When they try to call the emergency call the line is busy or no one picks up the line. The hospitals are totally crowed and you have to queue up for many many hours until you will see anybody. To do this is dangerous, because for sure there are infected people and when you don't know if your fever is the Wuhan nCoV or just a cold, you better stay home. And even if you will see a doctor - they can't really help you because they have no beds anymore and no meds. If at all something to supress your fever (Paracetamol or Ibuprofen).
There are rumors on the net that the case fatalaty rate is about 15% what means out of 6 people one dies.
I don't like the name Coronavirus. I would call it the New Chinese Pneumonic Plague.
The empty shelves in that video are why I posted about that pair who went out and got F'in corn flakes. Anybody who has been paying attention watched Venezuela and the empty store shelves. Toilet paper people, and if you have women around the stuff they need besides copious amounts of toilet paper.

And so, i was down in town today getting my heart and arteries x-rayed. People in the waiting area are all against the impeachment. They had never tried CBD and ache all over. Don't want pot to be legalized cause cops can't test for drunkenness. Nurse who did the x-ray thing had not heard about corona V.

I hear people talk about manufacturing in Vietnam and one of the hardest working friends I've ever had was a machinist from North Vietnam, transplanted to Manila Mesa (the locals' term for Mira Mesa).

Actually I think it seems really bad for China right now, but I think this is going to be a very temporary thing for them. It's sort of like they're all being exposed to a flu, so some will get the flu, some will die. With everybody shut indoors, I'm sure it's really shitty for them - but the flu does work itself out, good or bad, in about 14 days.
There will still be people who are infectious and probably continuing restrictions on travel that make the American Apple employees take their business elsewhere.
And Apple is just one of the ones. Seems like 1/2 the stuff on Amazon is made in China.
PS I wonder what effect Cannabis smoke has on the virus ?
It would be a strange twist if pot smoke killed or neutralized the virus.

The article is written in German, but I think the picture is self explaining. This are the airplane movements and the virus will take the same way. As we see it is NOT a pure chinese problem. The Chinese are just the first and the rest of the planet got at least the chance to prepare a bit.
For people in the western world it is cheap to buy and storage some noodles, rice, cooking oil, vitamin pills etc. It will fill your belly for a long while if you are forced to stay inside. Some Paracetamol and Ibuprofen is cheap, too. And if there will come no emergency you can use all this stuff regulary next month/years.

I had a wolfdof who would ride in the back of my PU around here. Very friendly and he had a lick for everyone brave enough to get close. He caught the 24 hr flu one time. Poor guy really was miserable.

The union representing American Airlines pilots is suing the carrier to stop flights to China because of the spreading coronavirus threat.
The Allied Pilots Association, which represents nearly 15,000 pilots at the Fort Worth-based airline, filed suit Thursday in Dallas County court asking for a temporary restraining order on flights.
American Airlines on Wednesday said it would suspend flights from Los Angeles International Airport to Beijing and Shanghai from Feb. 9 to March 27, but the carrier still has flights from LAX to Hong Kong. American also flies nonstop to China from DFW International Airport and Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.
“We estimate that as many as 300 passengers and crew travel to DFW alone from Chinese cities on each American Airlines flight,” said a statement from Allied Pilots Association President Eric Ferguson. “To us, that level of risk is unacceptable.
The union is also telling pilots to decline assignments to China.

Stepped-up coronavirus screening to start at DFW Airport
DFW International Airport will now screen inbound international travelers for signs of coronavirus as the CDC expands measures to try to prevent the spread of the illness.
“The safety and well-being of our crews and passengers must always be our highest priority — first, last, and always,” Ferguson said in a statement. “Numerous other major carriers that serve China, including British Airways, Air Canada, and Lufthansa, have chosen to suspend service to that country out of an abundance of caution. The APA leadership has asked American Airlines management to follow suit."
United Airlines has also canceled many flights to China.
American flies to Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong, but it also has partnerships with companies such as Cathay Pacific Airways and China Southern Airlines that fly to smaller Chinese cities.
In a statement, American Airlines said it is aware of the lawsuit.
“We are in close contact with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and global public health officials to make sure we are taking all necessary precautions for our customers and team members,” said the statement from the company. “We will continue to monitor the situation and make any updates as needed.”
On Thursday, the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus outbreak a “public health emergency of international concern.” CDC said a sixth person in the United States was confirmed to have the virus in the first case of human-to-human transmission in the country.
The World Health Organization said there have been more than 7,800 confirmed cases and 170 deaths. Most of the cases are in China, but patients in 18 countries have been confirmed to have the virus, including the United States and China.
CDC this week added DFW Airport to a list where travelers from China will be screened for illness as they enter the country.
American flight attendants have also expressed concern about the coronavirus and say they are on the front lines if any passengers do have the illness. Lori Bassani, president of the union representing 28,000 flight attendants, said Thursday that the “situation in China should be taken with the utmost seriousness.”
“Until we know more and can be sure that all crew and passengers will be safe from this quickly-spreading illness, we are urgently calling on American Airlines and the federal government to err on the side of caution and halt all flights to and from China,” Bassani said in a statement. "Our safety is not for sale. We stand with our pilots.”
The Allied Pilots Association is bargaining with American Airlines for a new contract and held a rally at DFW Airport on Wednesday.
United Airlines gets about 7% of its passenger revenue from China, according to an airlines industry analyst.
