WHO: vaccine will not be enough to stop pandemic.

GENEVA - A vaccine on its own will not be enough to stop the corona pandemic. "A vaccine will not replace the other resources we have," said World Health Organization (WHO) Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

The pandemic is still raging after the virus emerged at the beginning of this year, with 54 million infections and more than 1.3 million deaths worldwide. According to the WHO, 660,905 new cases of the coronavirus were reported to the UN health organization on Saturday, setting a new record. That number, and the 645,410 cases recorded on Friday, surpassed the previous daily record of 614,013 on Nov. 7.

Tedros said the supply of the vaccine will be limited initially, with “health workers, the elderly and other at-risk groups given priority. That will hopefully reduce deaths and enable health systems to cope. ”

Lots of elbow room
But he warned: “Then the virus still has a lot of room to maneuver. Monitoring will have to continue, people still have to be tested, isolated and cared for, contacts still have to be traced. ”

Texas inmates paid $2 an hour to move COVID-19 victims' bodies

Amid a spike in COVID-19 cases, Texas' El Paso County is paying prison inmates $2 an hour to move the bodies of deceased victims of the disease. While prison labor is a common practice across the U.S., the reliance on inmates to handle the task of moving the corpses of COVID-19 victims is raising questions about the ethics of such work.

The county has nine inmates who are working to move the bodies of coronavirus victims, according to Chris Acosta, public affairs director at the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. She described them as "low-level offenders" and said they are "provided full PPE by the morgue/hospital."

"The work is 100% voluntary," she added. "It's great that these individuals are stepping up and volunteering to assist a community in dire need of help right now."

Corona orphaned 4-year-old Raiden Image © Photo family (Facebook)

The American TV station NBC News spoke to family members who would like to get the story out there to clarify and warn about the impact of corona. They have also distributed the photos of the boy with permission. "Raiden is left alone. It's very difficult," said the toddler's grandmother, Rozie Salinas, with whom he now lives.

Died in 1 day
The drama was set in San Antonio, Texas. The boy's father, Adan, contracted corona at work in June. He passed away after being in IC for a few weeks. He was 33 years old.

During the mourning period, Raiden's mother Mariah (29) also received corona. That was on October 5. "She became ill on Monday evening at around 9:00 and taken to hospital by ambulance. A day later she was dead," the boy's great-aunt, Margie Bryant, told NBC.

"A few days ago he said he wished he could bring her back." In a few days the boy will be 5 years old. They would celebrate that big. "He's very upset because his mom and dad aren't there to celebrate with him."

Be careful
The family members want to give the boy an unforgettable birthday and have therefore set up a crowdfunding.

They also call on Americans to be careful with corona and they believe that people should do everything they can to prevent the virus from spreading. “We know how much pain this pandemic is causing, so I can't say enough: wear a face mask,” says Margie Bryant.

I heard about the youngster. Sad.
RN friend is now sucking on zinc throat lozenges under mandated mask while shopping. Makes sense! Will be getting some pronto, after 2 week reset Stay@Home. I think I have some in a bathroom drawer I used when teaching at night. A little immune protection from colds/viruses, pre-CO-19.
