The doctors from Rajavithi Hospital in Bangkok said a new approach in coronavirus treatment had improved the condition of several patients under their care, including one 70-year-old Chinese woman from Wuhan who tested positive for the coronavirus for 10 days.
The drug treatment includes a mixture of anti-HIV drugs lopinavir and ritonavir, in combination with flu drug oseltamivir in large doses.
“This is not the cure, but the patient’s condition has vastly improved. From testing positive for 10 days under our care, after applying this combination of medicine the test result became negative within 48 hours,” Dr. Kriangska Atipornwanich, a lung specialist at Rajavithi, told reporters.

The cost for lopinavir/ritonavir oral liquid (400 mg-100 mg/5 mL) is around $375 for a supply of 160 milliliters, depending on the pharmacy you visit. Prices are for cash paying customers only and are not valid with insurance plans.

There is no point trying to control a disease that kills 2%. If you start shutting boarders, people will panic buy and run for their bunkers. Businesses can collapse as key workers decide that some time off is more important than their job. If this is important infrastructure, such as transport, you can cause a lot of damage by changing peoples role to one of survivalist. The number from China may be wrong, and maybe your government/dictatorship know this, but are happy to let us believe. Telling us they got the few people that carry it and all is well. Knowing the two week incubation period, is longer than the story is old.

Now, investigators describe the characteristics of 99 people with confirmed 2019-nCoV pneumonia who were admitted to one infectious diseases specialty hospital between January 1 and 20, 2020, in Wuhan, China.




The patients' average age was 55; two thirds were men; 47 had long-term exposure (e.g., salesmen, market managers) and 2 had short-term exposure (shoppers) to the Huanan seafood market. About 50% had chronic conditions, most commonly cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases (40%). At hospital admission, symptoms and signs included fever (83%), cough (82%), and shortness of breath (31%); few patients had sore throat, rhinorrhea, or gastrointestinal symptoms (≤5% each). Laboratory findings included liver function abnormalities (43%) and lymphopenia (35%). On chest x-ray or computed tomography, 75% had evidence of bilateral pneumonia; 1 person had a pneumothorax. Complications at time of presentation included acute respiratory distress syndrome (17%), acute kidney injury (3%), and septic shock (4%). By January 25, 11 patients (11%) had died. Seven of the deaths were in people over 60 years old.

Virus genetic material was discovered in patient stool and rectal swabs, Xinhua said Sunday. The finding was made by scientists from the Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University and the Wuhan Institute of Virology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences after noting that some patients infected with the 2019-nCoV virus had diarrhea early in the disease, instead of a fever, which is more common, the report said.
