What is more important, the message or the words?? Everyone makes grammar errors; there's no point in being thin-skinned about it.

If you'd read my earlier post, you'd have your answer. The words are equally as important as the message. Without the right words, in the correct order, the message has trouble getting through.

Define "speak properly". I can't think of any other words where a leading H has magically become silent, yet Americans pronounce "herb" as "'erb"
WHY CANT YOU SPEAK PROPERLY !?!?!?????

The other thing that really gets under my skin is the use of double (and sometimes triple negatives).

"I didn't find nothing" "I ain't going nowhere" "They didn't have none"

Again, mostly relegated to hicks :)

the context is imporpant to me. incorrect grammar in professional situations is just wrong. but to worry about it in a forum seems silly imo. there are many reasons it happens. like it's easy to get in a hurry, english is a 2nd language, might be typing on a cell phone/blackberry/or kid toy w/a wi-fi capability, maybe the connection only allows a certain # of characters in 1 post, and maybe some of us are tryin to make our posts sound like we do when we talk w/ our friends... then again maybe it's just me.

I've addressed all that earlier in the thread. I was mainly referring to professional/formal situations with this thread. Everyone got freaked out because they thought it was an attack on them and their American forum-posting way of life. :)

Like mentioned before in this thread, it isn't a big deal if some people misspell or use a word in the wrong context. Sometimes I spell receive 'recieve' and don't even notice.

However, one pet peeve of mine is when people "type lyke dis" or ask things such as "wut r u ^ 2??"

That shit gets old quick.

I'm generally not too anal about it online. I would have to say that people who use apostrophes on *word's* that don't need them does bother me. Other than that, excessive acronyms such as you would find on any given person's "myspace.com" page does bother me.
