Congo: A study.

I'm not sure which version I got - ix or ix#2. IX#2 uses a Congo black pheno of CPNxCongo Black. In either case I believe the lineage is:

(Congo Point Noire x Congo Black) x Congo Black male.

I always thought the Congo black male or cut was freely shared by around breeders and thought Snow got his direct from Alex?

Maybe the double congo is also CPNxCongo black and came from tropical???

I think I remember that it was African herbman who selected from (I think) his native South Africa the "Congo Black" (also the Durban Poison '70, I think); Then he shared them, I think, with Tropical Seeds, so they could work on them more: T.S.Co. he worked that "Congo Black" and crossed it with the company's own "Congo Point Noire" to create "Double Congo" ... I think there is a thread on Icmag where the African herbman documented his search and selection of South African, Congolese or Swaziland varieties ...

Thanks. Not really man, Snow never had access to the CPN or the Congo Black, it was a limited F1 hybrid released by Tropical Seed Co, in order to preserve their CPN female with the Congo Black shared by African Herbman. Snow only had access to Double Congo F2 from what I researched.

Yeah Snow does seem to get a little creative when re-naming other peoples lines he receives.

Poor form imho for both the original breeder not getting credit and also for the customer not knowing exactly what they got.

Very true: And even more so when his description of the variety is practically copied from the Tropical Seeds Company Information and blog. If it were not for the very slight changes that I indicate in its description, it would seem that Snowhigh is Tropical Seeds Company ...:

"Black Congolese #2 is the Pure Black Congolese male which pollinated the #2 female which exhibits more the Pure Black Congolese expressions. The #2 female is Black Congolese x Congo Pointe Noire, the black congolese was sourced from the same person in South Africa and the Congo Pointe Noire cut which has been lost now, so I've heard . The Republic of Congo is the country where the city Pointe Noire is located on the Atlantic coast of South West Africa and where the congo river terminates in the the ocean. The Republic of Congo was formally called Zaire. The Black Congolese comes from Democratic Republic of Congo. Some red traits will come out in the phenotypes, red stems and petioles and various color ranges are possible."

Y ya que Snowhigh no cita el origen real de la genética, ignorando al breder de Tropical Seeds que aportó la Congo Point Noire, lo nombraré yo: Hombredebarro .

And since Snowhigh does not cite the real origin of the genetics, ignoring the Tropical Seeds breder that Congo Point Noire contributed, I will name it: Mudman.

Very true, IMHO Snow acts like just another seed scammer trying to steal unexperienced growers who don't know much about sativas or where are all those lines originate from in the first place (Dee Wee Dalat, Vietnam Black, Double Congo TSC, Angola from LMN and so on). Being a "breeder" and neglecting the important task of providing valuable and extensive information and credit on the genetics you work with is a shame, especially when you pay up to usd300-400 for a package. Reminds me of Coastal Seeds posting pictures of 60s Mexicans that totally look like afghans. Bullshit will never cease to amaze me, they just seem so desperate to turn their old seed collections into cash at any cost.

It's a shame Charlie Garcia from CBG, Jahgreenlabel from USC or Aeros from TRSC are no longer in the seed industry. They were the real landrace pros who made their reputation from years of career and sativa knowledge on forums and not IG bullshit and hype, they actually left a big gap and paving all the way for all the con artists and amateur oportunists to take over.

This is a Congo Black from The Landrace Team. 30 days into flower. I smoked a bit of lower fan leaves and the high was real good. Hoping for LSD high but that is hard to get. Rated as being lysergic by TLT and a review from grower of this at the TLT site.

Plant is short at 20 inches or so and leaves are 2 inches long at the most, so small leaves and not super narrow. The 4 plants all look alike, almost clones of each other. Tells me this was inbred by someone. I wanted right out of Africa seeds but do not think these are. If any have grown a similar looking CB please post here about it. This might be a common variety already floating around the seedbanks.

Smoked a bud from the best of the 4 and while it was good, the Laos Highland 2 is better. I will clone it but it is not above anything else I have and just to have something different really. The first part of the high is weird, that is the best way to describe it. When that passes, which is soon, it is a mellow feeling with no crash. So it is trippy but not exactly what I want I guess.

Took the Congo Black down at 55 days. Could have gone longer but they were seeded from hermies from other plants and the pistils were mostly dark and I have other plans for the tent.

Interesting!

The Congo Black bx pheno I'm growing from Snowhigh seems to be pure or almost pure NLD sativa. Extreme vigor and stretch!

It's grows a bit similar to a Zamaldelica pheno I grew out a few years back so maybe a sign of shared African origin?

Actually hoping for a Mango-carrot pheno now!

This is the Congo Black which I chopped at 55 days of flower. I rolled up a pinner and smoked half of it, which is a lot for me. The smell of the smoke took me back to something and then I realized it was the smell of good Mexican pot when I first started smoking. The high is similar too. Tripped out at first and then a kind of lifted effect for the rest with no crash. The early Mexicans tended to have a siesta after effect but this pretty much does not have that.

I had been sampling smaller amounts of this and was a bit let down. Also it had been quick dried. This is not really strong pot and it takes a bit of it to make the effect strong, just like early Mexican pot. Thinking about 15% for thc I suppose. You can see how the pistils are all dark even with minimal flower time. Possible that Mexican genetics made their way to Africa for all I know? I went outside right after smoking and the sunny day was super bright on my eyes, pretty weird feeling for the first 10 minutes.

The clones are not taking but I have a lot of seeds from the hermies and hope the seeds I ordered/ Congo and Uganda will come. Had some that never showed but made another order.

From the photos, your congo black looks like its been hybridized with a WLD type if it's got any congo in it at all. There are a lot of people taking known NLD hybrids and just renaming them so they sell. This has been going on for years, and with western hybrids being grown around the world where 20-30 years ago all you would find is the original local plants, all you find are hybrids. There are still a few places left with pure local genetics but they getting harder to find. Over the last 10-20 years morocco has imported seeds from Pakistan as they have bigger yields and higher potency with very branchy Christmas tree-like WLD types. Before then, all you could find were single-stemmed plants with no branching NLD types which they used to make hash.
