So would it be safe to say that four weeks from seed is a good time to go 12/12 - on average?

"12/12 from seed is a Common grow tech"

If you do this from seed run 12/12 from day 1..they will grow for 21-28 days b4 they begin to flower
I have dun it several times
Good luck

It's not hard it just must be done "Staggered" in steps...so all the plants recieve light
If done all at once it will not work :rasta:

This one I am having a hard time wrapping my brain around - what is to stop me from getting a bunch of seed and doing it all at once? If they are all the same height, light placement will be even easier, yes?

That would just be a SOG, not a perpetual grow like the the Drs. Also, the plants would totally outgrow such a small cabinet. From seed plants will grow for a few weeks before flowering, clones will begin flowering much much sooner.

Nothing is stopping you my friend, but your grow will end up being apples and oranges to drbuds.

So the main difference is that with clones you can start 12/12 earlier, yes? Then I could, say, go for six weeks instead of four, and then switch it up to flower? I don't necessarily need someone to tell me exactly what to do; I am all for experimenting. I am just looking for some sense, as noob grower (Michigan Medical Marihuana patient and self-caregiver) who wants to SOG or SCROG (still debating that), that I can apply this philosophy to my single-room apparatus in a cost effective way without using metal halides or HPS.

You can start seeds or clones in 12/12 at the same time, but the seeds just need time to mature before they start producing flowers, whereas you clones will start to produce flowers a few weeks earlier.

If you plan on using a cabinet, Id be wary of using seeds as a SOG grow. I think they would end up outgrowing nearly any average size cab if you have them stuffed in there tightly. If you are using a room or closet, itd be a different story

Dr. Bud, I jumped over to the bubble and wow. That is the picture progression that really shows what your SOGsystem can do. Congrats on being a Mod too, you can put the haters in their place quick.

I am using a 4x7 room so this should help me a lot. Thanks!!

Do some reading all your answers are in this thread dont be lazy.

Oh for gawd's sake. Dontcha think the Dr can fight his own battles. There is so much scurrying for approval from the big Dr it is sickening. The Dr doesn't mind answering questions so what is with the entourage that is surrounding him and doing his talking for him? I have been following this thread for days now, reading from page one and am so far on page 42 [I have a life you know] and what I can see is that over time, people walk lighter and lighter on eggshells in this thread to keep from being banned. There is so much posturing and squabbling over pecking order that I can only pray for doomsday. It reminds me of countless Humboldt growers who get their asses kissed so much they begin to expect it and anyone that does not is somehow rude. A guy got banned from this thread for asking questions without a single iota of bad attitude and without a single thread. Oops, I guess I am gone too. FUCK THE HIPPIE MAFIA - REAL HIPPIES DON'T EMBRACE POWER STRUCTURES... There is a lot of good info here but a lot of bullying as well.

Bro, you got a ways to go. You won't even see this for what, days? weeks? months?

You need to smoke another one, homie. You're starting to stress on people who are only here to help you. You're also reading and responding to posts that are OOOOLD. Like the one you responded to from ScrogHog was from April 2008.

I don't even know if that user is still active.

(wonder if he'll ever read this?)

Dude on another site dropped this link and an outline of the program. Most of the folks there started ice pickin' straight away. Kinda gives ya a taste of what Galileo must have encountered...we fear change and the unfamiliar. Same kind of stupid shit that allows people in the States to continue letting the Fed destroy their lives, one Republican or Democratic after another...but I digress.

All thanks to the good Doctor for his knowledge and patience. Having read every page I can honestly say that it does get painful having to hear the same questions asked over and over and ...you know what I mean. You must've spent a lot of time workin' with the short bus kids before you showed up here 'cuz you got the patience of a saint cuz.

Please good people, if you find an interesting contributor and wish to show your appreciation of their efforts, make a little on your own and filter/read this shit twice if ya have to to let it soak in. We've got enough whining "help me 'cuz I'm too fucking lazy to help myself" bitches in this world already. Don't add to the crush.

As fer the swivelnecks and their ilk, treat this shit like radio bro. Don't like it, just turn it off. Nobody's stickin' a gun in yer ear. Ya think that after a quarter million views that everybody else is an idiot and the emperor has no clothes...what makes you think that your hit and run makes a shit bit of dif. Just hold yer water and blow. Obviously lots of people have found this direction to be life changing so show a little respect and like Mr. Zappa said, " go fuck yourself".

Sorry...had to get that out. Been buildin' fer 64 pages.

Anybody try this with H.O. T-5 tubes or a mix of CFLs and maybe some tubes on the sides? I'm gonna give it a shot and try pulling the ballasts out of the box to avoid the over heat. Another thought was whether anyone has tried this with CO2. I realize that more light would be required to make full use of the extra fuel but that's the whole point of the side lights or maybe a 512w. remote ballasted 8 tuber in the ceiling and maybe some CFLs along the walls or visa versa.

Thanks also to the Docs disciples. Your threads and efforts are just as much an inspiration and help.

One last question for anybody that's still readin'. It strikes me that the narrowness of the cut down 20 oz. bottle seems to be a big part of forcing the plants. I remember a mention of someone playing with some taller and narrower vessels but don't remember reading the outcome. Doc if yer out there...ever have any luck with somethin' smaller and taller...maybe 2" or even 1 1/2" PVC with the bottoms dry fitted to a drilled cap or plug? Maybe something with the same volume just rearranged?

Thanks one last time to all that helped make this such a mind bender. :)

I can't quote you the page number it's on, but the doc does say that the diameter to length ratio definately is a leading factor in growing budsicles. Anything that is twice the height of the diameter (or width) should be ok. Check out the slick containers that Anti uses. Or the goldfish cartons that Blynx uses. Both are taller than they are wide by a fair margin.

Hello, just wondering if this could be done with plants from seed. I plan to keep a short 2 week veg and then flower. Instead, I have about 25oz worth of soil in bottles though. Thanks!

You can do anything from seed that you can do with clones.

...except get guaranteed females every time.

The only caveat is: it may take the "from seed" plant longer to show sex in flowering because it is not yet a mature plant. The clone is as old as the mother it was cloned from, therefore it comes out of the clonery fully sexually mature and ready to make babies.

Seeds are much more difficult, if not impossible, to keep as evenly grown as DrBuds garden. Seeds will have different phenos, and take about an extra month to mature enough to show sex and start flowering, which will also make for much larger plants. You could do an SOG grow from seeds, but it would be very difficult to contain them in a cab the size of the Drs.

Wow, thanks, Kudos!

Wow, thanks, Kudos!

I'm currently on page 14 of this thread, skipped to the end to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who has contributed, and especially the Dr who was gracious enough to share his infinite experience and knowledge.

It seems any conceivable question has been asked and answered in this vast thread, I'm taking notes as I go along. Once I get started on my grow, I look forward to posting pics and getting feedback from all of you.

Happy times:dance013:
