yes i do ,,,thanks ,,,can you successfully clone a plant 30 or so days into flower? i have heard so many things,,,,i guess you can,,,but its very hard ? so i hear. thanks for the pics ! your bagseed looks very good ! I like it !
Thanks man, my 1st time ever cloning way back in the good days, i didnt know the correct time to clone and i took some clones pretty far into flowering, and they came out.
The rule i go by is if i have to take clones while they are in flower, ill keep em under a 24 hr light cycle because you are trying to get that clone back into Veg state asap. And the sooner it gets back to that the more likely it is to have success.
But now ill take clones right when i see preflowers and im about 95% sure its a female then i keep em alive, let the plants bud, then pick the correct mother for my set up.
Just clone them all. After your sure the clones have rooted put them into flower. After they start to flower ditch the males and the clones you took from them.
I see you've been doing this awhile Leviticus,I keep a copy of each female but dont make my final choice until I've sampled the finished clone,I never make a decision from the seedplant.Unless I want to veg some huge plants waiting 60-70 days to see whats happenin I usually have to take cuts from the vegging plants around the midpoint of the flowering plants. Some pheno's like the blockhead one I've had for years are apparent at 40 days lol, those are the gold.Sometimes its a close race and I have to sample the different pheno's.God I love growin erb lol
I still do it the old fashioned way with rw cubes in a humidity dome under flo lighting,I know if I ever tried a bubblecloner I'd never go back, some habits die hard lol.If you use a humidity dome keep it well misted for the first week or so,then start removing at intervals to harden them off.Giving the donor plant a shot of phosphorous before taking cuts helps in rooting.I like Olivia's cloning gel for rooting and solution to give them a healthy start
My first few grows (6+ years ago) i used commercial bagseed, out of 3 females i ended up with some pretty decent phenos. Not anything special, but comparable to some phenos i've had from very expensive seeds. If your growing skills are good, and you have the right equipment...you can grow very nice bud. It's mainly in how you grow, i mean sure...you could find some bad phenos in there, but the same thing could happen with any seeds including expensive store bought seeds.
I mean, if you have the cash then certainly buy some seeds as they are generally more stable and will produce better phenos. But if your new to growing and are tight on cash, then bagseed will do you fine. They are perfect for practice grows.
SI how can a total mystery be perfect for a newbie practice grow?I don't understand the rationale, maybe because my bagseed sucked ass. And it certainly wasn't the way it was grown lol,the genetics were unstable as hell.I still feel bagseed and new growers are a bad idea,an inexperienced person should get all the help they can in terms of information about a strain IMO.EDIT I don't know how many "how long to flower" and "can you identify this strain" threads I've seen pertaining to bagseed, dozens and dozens to be sure.A new grower growing a strain with a written history has the advantage, not to mention he can converse with and compare to others in the forum growing the same strain
If you have the time and resources why not? Don't forget that Chemdawg, the mother of sour diesel and OG Kush, was from bagseed. Of course you have to look at where the bagseed is from... if it's imported schwag, you're going to get columbian or mexican sativas that will flower longer but may have awesome genetics once grown well. If it's local dank you could have a mixture of both. Either way it's a win-win IMO, unless you don't have the garden space to grow out all the phenos.
Why not waste 90-100 or more days flowering a bagseed sativa of unknown genetics when I could pull two harvests of blockhead in that time?I'd have to think about it..Remember the title of this thread is commercial bagseed, not a seed out of a stanky sticky green flower lol
My bagseed was horible too, i'm talking straight out of a bag of schwag. I think i was fairly young at the time, just trying things out. But suprisingsly she turned out damn well, yield was about 1.25 oz off of the one female. Fairly good quality, obviously not top quality but not any worse than some phenos i've gotten from like Nirvana packs.
I think i used a 125w cfl (not equivalent too, it actually used 125w). for vegging. It only gave off like 8000-10000 lumens, but it did the job for vegging. Then i used a cheap 400w hps i bought from insidesun for most of the flowering phase. IDK how she turned out that good, especially for schwag bagseed.
I wish i could find pictures, although i don't even think i have the computer that i put the pics on anymore. This was 6 or so years ago.
Mine was also in 2001,it was real ugly but the commercial down here is something to be desired.Hell I knew what I was doing and should have ordered me some blockhead right off the bat lol,I guess thats why I always take the minority side on this subject.I listened to people on overgrow and actually tried a second bagseed grow like a dumbass, nobody seemed to have a conflicting viewpoint at the time.I developed my own from my experience.Had I started with any strain with a history and the ability to compare my grow with others of the same strain,I wouldnt have wasted two very long crappy flowering periods lolEDIT I'd recommend after a few grows under the belt, try some bagseed if it seems worthwhile, but I couldnt suggest it as a first grow after my experience
after a few grows try bagseed?? i would have to say run bagseed for your first run and then go from there, comparisons are nothing without the knowledge of the basics of growing.
Yea,mine came out of the same crappy commercial bud and I ended up with a lot of fugly sexually deviant retards that couldnt figure out if they wanted to be an indica, sativa,or some unwanted hemp from hell when they grew up.
It's called phenotypes, it happens with ANY seed strain. Obviously, some strains are more uniform than others, but your always going to find different phenos. How do you think elite clones are made? If you have the cash, go for some good seeds. But, it's all in the growers skill mainly. If your bagseed turned out shitty, it's because you most likely didn't put enough effort into it. I guarantee if you gave me 4 or 5 bagseeds, i could find a nice pheno from atleast one of them and grow her out to be dank.
I totally agree...and anyways bagseed is great for begginers, they get the basics of growing down weather or not the bud is awesome or not. Then when they buy genetics they no what the fuck they are doin and wont fuck shit up.
exactly, most of these peoples bad experiences are because most of them were/are new to growing when they grew the bagseed. Obviously, if you grow bagseed on your first grow it's not going to be as good as say blockhead on your 10th grow.
