Anyone playing with early flowering genetics?
Dusted 3 buds of harlequin with pollen from an early flowering pheno of Brickland. The males vegged for over 4 months under 24/0 lighting without flowering. They started flowering as soon as I gave them dark and 2 weeks of 24/0 gave me the pollen I have now.
Avi, Pink is showing good root growth and the first normal growth. Revegging almost done.
Sour Tsunami mum is happy as a frog in her own bucket. Harlequin mum is perking up... realized I hadn't changed her res in 11 months. Wow!

I have to say it has so very little to do with the nutrients used. I can tell you if there is off flavors in the first few hits, some residue is present and that is what you taste. Especially neem. oh man is that stuff rough on the burn. ANYTHING oil based is difficult to fully remove, ime.
Grower knowledge of what is really taking place in the grow/flower room will make a tremendous difference in overall health and quality.
I really hope what you guys are saying about the number of shops using hydro shop designer nutrients is untrue... seems silly at this stage in the game.

If you make hash you'll notice anything sprayed on the plant, when i was working in a kitchen in town i used to joke the bags labeled pm really meant night time mix. If you where lucky or unlucky it either was straight mildew smell or sometimes you got a big bag of sulfur and fish.
Ive seen eagle20 used a few days before harvest and that will def make good bud taste horrible. At this point tho im suspect of places that say they may only use neem or some essential oils, if your growing around here you need some heavy duty shit to make sure your plants stay clean of things like russets and root aphids.

good points KS, your experiences are not novel, i've seen the same thing.

when i was running big ops in denver we ONLY used the nasty stuff on clones and plants in early veg...
and I DO believe that you CAN control pests with essential oils and other SAFE pesticidals like neem, potassium sillicate, etc. It is doable, not common at all...
also I left the "industry" and those big ops specifically because i refused to participate in poisoning the end user by spraying plants close to flowering with nasty chems (eagle20), worst part is that the PM issue wasn't even out of hand , just a few spots on leaves.... on maybe 10 out of 5,000 plants, all about to be harvested and no PM showing on anything else.
I've been warning people for some time now about the dangers of commercial cannabs for these very reasons.....
i think its fucked that tehe state requires testing for potency AND safety, but has only enforced the testing of potency and doesnt seem to give a damn about safety of the consumer..
yea its sad when you see the crazyness behind the scenes, some of the shit i've seen is mind blowing. It doesn't help that some of these master growers dont have the experience or even motivation to get things cleaned and organized. I would never consider myself on that level but after being in and out of so many places i'm confident i could do a better job then a lot of places i see

in fact, the growing practices are SO bad... and the regs that eventually will come to be enforced are ushering in methods of "sanitizing" cannabis....

yup.. you want into the canna business.. get a nice camera. and grow beautiful buds.. once u get enough nice shots.. have them printed.. and bring them with you to the dispensary.. and ask for a sitdown with the people who can actually hire..
cant just fill out an app. and think your going to get the job.. im sure 1000000ss of apps are put in DAILY. and without proof that u can grow buds.. they aren't just going to take you on your word..

if you have valuable skills, knowledge and experience... you are dangerously "valuable" and the industry is built upon CHEAP labor, also they think it's better to have a minion who simply follows directions.

Yup Yup thanks for that tip Kief , just relating my experiences "applying" for jobs, friends have been a big help...I had a grower who I was in for an interview as a trimmer and he noticed on my resume that I was into horticulture and organics, he immediately stopped interviewing me and went on a ten minute rant about how much better a grower he was than me, he said his bud will have a much longer shelf life than my organic buds, this was just after he was telling me how fast his product leaves the shelf, I got up and asked why he needed a longer shelf life if his bud was moving so fast , left without waiting to hear anymore lol

Funny thing is I have never even tried to get a job as a grower or even assistant in one of these places....just was looking for a hourly job to pay rent for a bit , was treated somewhat poorly despite having a good resume with college courses in Horiticulture and greenhouse management , different path now learned my lessons
