haha! welcome to the land of no humidity! its even worse down south man. Its so strange because growing up in georgia i would sweat like crazy and know to drink water, but i will get in a groove here riding my MTB or hiking and i wont sweat at all and will forget to drink. Have to be much more conscious of it here because once you get behind on the agua it takes a few days to catch back up

You're still sweating- it just evaporates a lot faster & does its job of cooling you off better. Your skin is an evaporative cooler.

Being from the south I DON'T miss the humidity, being extra hot and sticky, or the bugs. Gimme that dry air. You got to love it in the winter when you blow your nose and it pops loose and starts to bleed.

Coming from the east, I love the dry air. I sweat easily. Its nice being able to do some work and not be dripping like you just got out of the pool. I also dont miss the ticks, mosquitoes, and all those things that made it hell to hike in the woods back east. Only thing i might miss is nice green grass to walk on and sit and lay down. If i try that here Ill look like some teenage mutant ninja porcupine

Bugs! We still have to be careful about ticks, particularly in the spring & in areas with lots of deer. Mosquitoes can be a problem at times, particularly with West Nile virus. OTOH, there are no chiggers, and no poisonous reptiles other than rattlesnakes.

No fireflies, though, which are pretty cool. It's a small price to pay.

What about poison ivy? I've never seen it in my wanderings around the state and sure as shit don't miss that either. I can just about look at poison ivy and break out.

they have it here in northern new mexico and southern colorado who dat, it doesnt look like poison ivy back home though. It grows by the river and it grows on the tall branches that look kind of like bushes without leaves in the winter time but has the poison ivy foliage during the summer. It grow like that so when the rio floods it will stay above water...

I was thinking you were in Colorado. I definitely want to get back to your neck of the woods again this summer. I had a blitz mission through Santa Fe and Taos last summer and really want to get back to check it out again. Hanging out at some random hot springs on the Rio in the middle of nowhere was awesome! I got my trestle park bike pass this year too and I plan on going to Angel Fire a time or two.

It's not terribly hard to find around Rye, Beulah, San Isabel & points further south along the foothills- probably around La Veta & the Spanish Peaks region as well. I've never encountered it in the high country.

Agreed on the fireflies, Jhhnn. Have missed them every summer for 37 years, but wouldn't swap the low humidity for them. Just have to be happy with the real Rocky Mountain lightening shows.

Live in anyplace with a nasty snake species and it makes you truly appreciate one that's courteous enough to tell you "go away or die". Only thing I dislike about CO, east enough for a brown recluse, dry and hot enough for black widows, we probably have all the worst spiders in NA here.

True, although neither is aggressive. Black widows will defend their little cotton ball egg clutches, however. We have a couple of species of scorpions in the southeast & on the western slope which can be aggressive if supposedly not potentially lethal.

Oh, and ground nesting yellow jackets, very aggressive hornets that will give a person a tighten up if their nest is disturbed. They'll do the funky broadway on your ass- all of 'em at the same time. I've encountered them clear up into the spruce-fir zone.

Never saw either of the two until I moved here less than 2 years ago.

HAHAHAHAHA I'm from Texas.... we had fire ants, the recluse, tarantula, and the widow... coral snakes, cottonmouths, rattlers, and copperheads.... wild hogs, cougars, coyotes and wolves.... out east we had alligators and the best part.... checking yer bedsheets and boots for 18 different species of scorpion every time ya sit or stand LOL....

point of fact... there aint much in Texas that wont take a piece out of you or try to hurt your feelins

Colorado's got it easy in comparison.

Tarantulas are creepy looking but basically harmless, they instinctively avoid biting things that are too big for them, don't they? But if something can bite me and a week later a chunk of rotten flesh drops off of me, then i'm concerned, that's like 3 steps away from zombies.

Tarantulas aint bad except when they've curled up all cozy in yer boot and here comes along a big ass foot to ruin their day.... those inch long fangs'll come out and hurt your feelings.

As far as the rest, I used to catch scorpions as pets...

In Iowa we have the Mosquito and.....rabbits? I once found a garter snake. Seen quite a few squirrels too, but if you ask me our most dangerous predators are the deer and the possum.
