^^^ True. But after following him for a few years, he seems like the last person we'd want traing people on a national level.
Yeah, and I seriously doubt we'll be getting a friendly in his place. Maybe C Everett Koop, motherfucker got styyyle.

The time is nearing to start flowering one of my plants I believe, it is about 11.5" tall but 15" wide. I just have a few quick questions about the flowering process.

The whole time my plants have been under a fluorescent ballast because I am going the cost effective route. I was just curious if it is possible to flower them under fluorescent lights as well. From what I have been reading online, 10,000 lumens per square foot is the rule of thumb. Is that true?

I was contemplating multiple cfl lamps shining on all different parts of the plant to ensure light is reaching every part of the plant. Ideas and Recommendations?

Yes you sure can, but you wont get the yield you would from an HID. Stack up as much light as you can and keep em as close to the canopy as possible for the best light penetration. Luckily your plant is bigger around than it is tall because flouros, cfls etc.. aren't going to have even near the penetration.

Good luck! You'll still get some kick ass flowers no doubt.

Would my idea of putting cfl lamps shining at different areas of the plant provide better penetration?

certainly. using cfl, it would be better, imo, to add more rather than simply re-arranging. but if the question is whether adding additional lights for the lower parts of the plants, then absolutely beneficial. cfl's don't produce much heat, so you can get the bulbs really close (and i would suggest doing so). hope that helps.

That was exactly what I was talking about. It would have plenty of light I would think. I just don't want to fork out all the money for HIDs, ballasts, ventilation, etc...

a 3 yr old 7.0 MP sony cyber shot. for whatever reason has always done nice macros. I got a newer camera with higher MP's but its macro is worse.

exactly what model do you have..I notice 3 different 7MP cyber shot cameras offered fro sale.
I want to buy one for my wife's jewelry sales business website, and of course to show off my flowers.

If cash is an issue, and you don't mind vegging for a bit longer... I would look into LSTing or ScROGing.

Here mtnjohn used SCROG and got several uniform buds:

They also have some pretty high wattage cfl's out. Is your power bill the concern, or the cost of the equipment?

Both... I am only growing 3 plants just out of curiosity, so I don't see investing the money in an awesome grow set up. I need to find a place a little more permanent before I do any of that anyways.

If it comes down to needing a more efficient light then I have no problem with that. I just don't want to have to go through all the trouble of mounting the ballast and supplying it with power until I move into a more permanent place.

You'll be good with the CFL, and I think you'll get some great buds, but as others have said yield will be the most impacted factor. Have fun learning, this is a very rewarding endeavor!

Gorgeous, grow! Would you please describe your setup to me. It appears to be in cardboard boxes. Is that so??? Amazing!

Pardon my newness...I have that "Newbie" ailment....total fascination with any unique setup. Have a great day!

I hope I am posting this in the correct place. {blush}

Peace and green hugs,

Peace and green hugs,

hahah nothing so exotic. Im just using that cardboard box to dry in because my grow tent is still occupied with flowering plants. im running a secret jardin DR 80 grow tent with a 400w lumatek ballast, hortilux HPS cooltubed with like 5 fans.

I respectfully disagree, with yield being the lacking factor...I recently visited a cfl garden, I too, thought that yield would be greatly effected. This garden had some very large, very dense buds..The only downside I saw is that they do not seem to finish as quickly under cfls..(granted this guy had the cfl equivalent,of a 3k set-up)
But it is very possible to get dense buds, and good yields with cfls..You might need to invest in a welding mask though because to hit the correct lumen ratio, you need a lot of cfls

I stand corrected :) it's all hearsay and conjecture, cause I've never flowered under CFL's. 3K worth of cfl's... Wow. What was the benefit for using that many? I would assume power consumption would be the same as running HID's, maybe less heat?

less power consumption, less heat, lower cost... a significant amount of training was done to achieve yield. It wasn't 3k of cfls it was the equivalent of the lumens that 3k of hids would have produced..

You can expect to have a lot of leaf...I think that strain might be one of the worst ever to trim...Big yield yes, connoisseur grade herb, well that's debatable. If all your looking for is production, then big bud will be just what you're looking for.
