Did you have air pumps? I believe the idea with the bubble cloners is to keep the stems just out of the water and the air pumps cause bubbles that dampen the stems with water and oxygen.

yes i did have a pump with a stone in the res, but like i said the stems were under the water. if they are meant to be above, i will mod it to be so. any other quick tips jj?

also do you think it would be easier to clone right into dirt filled beer cups using the hormone and a baggie for humidity?

I have used a 50/50 mix of perlite and potting soil in 8 ounce cups. I put another cup over that one and poked a couple holes in the top. I did have a lot of them have a problem being to damp that way.

I checked the cuttings tonight and the most had broken through the rooter. I like to transplant them into dry soil as soon as the roots show. I do not water them for about a day and a half, and then only lightly. This seems to get the roots growing heavily....

They will but they are a little softer and harder to keep together. I have used them but prefer the RR because of their solidness.

Just a quick update. This was my 1st attempt at cloning with the rapid rooters. At day 13, 11 out of 12 cuttings made it into beer cups. I lost one by managing to pry it from the rooter while checking for roots a few days ago. Best rate so far over the rw & peatplugs.

Congrats on the success. Nothing wrong with 11 out of 12. I did 31 the last time and 30 have rooted and been cupped. The last one is being stubborn......

on last q jj, my preferred online hydroponic shop nor my in town hydro shop carry these rapid rooters, so is there a preferred site you have to order them if thats what you do?

Thanks!, However before I get too full of myself I need to see if I can do it again. Honestly I think I had better sucess because I paid more attention at keeping the humidity & temps stable than before. So far the rapid rooters just seem easier to use compared to the rw cubes & peatplugs.

The moisture in the plug can have a lot to do with how quick the cutting roots. If I squeeze the bottom half inch and it barely drips, the moisture is right. After a while you learn how wet they are by the color. Dark brown is to wet and blondish/brown is to dry.

Awesome thread JJ

Quick question: Is it critical for new cuttings to be under 24/0 light? Or can I start them in my mom room which is on a 20/4 schedule? I don't really have another room setup to do them in. I will be cloning in an aero cloner.

Thanks for your help!

I clone mine on 18/6. The mothers are on 24/0 and I dont want them flowering when I put them outside so I clone them with less light. By the time they root they have adjusted to the less light.....

JJ, Whats your take on using rapid rooters to sprout seeds? I just put a few seeds into rooters. The holes seemed a little deep so filled them with a pinch off the sides. I soaked the seeds for 24 then straight to the rooters.By leaving the rooters soaked ,I want to see if I can skip the papertowel step.

I have never used them for seeds. I have always used seed starter soil in small peat pots. I never soak the seeds either. I like to be able to control the moisture the seedlings get and I am used to soil......

Well here are two of my cuttings. They are DP Blueberry. 39 days from seed with no sign of sex. Hope something works out to get a plant outside for the first time.

Are they just cut? Make sure they are in a humidity dome of some kind and let us know how they are doing....

Heres one for those that say if they dont root within 2 weeks, they arent going to. Out of the original 31 I cut 24 days ago, 30 rooted within 2 weeks. This morning number 31 showed roots at day 24. You can see where I became impatient and tore pieces of the plug away. The moral of the story? If it isnt dead, leave it be, lol......
