...anyway, yeah, i've also not been around much in the last couple years so when you put the fact that i'm old together with the fact i've not been around and then you add in the weed, ...well, i, ....what were we saying?

It's a good thread I forgot it existed. Thanks for sharing. Cloning is a weak link for me, I do ok but I'd like to do better.

if cloning is your weak link then this is the cloning method for you, go read that thread and if i remember right the concept and principles are clearly laid out in the very first posting and if you follow the few simple rules then you just cannot fail, you may not get 100% your first try but i'd say i'd be VERY surprised if you didn't get at least 70% rooted your very first time, ...the popsicle molds will cost you about 4 bucks on ebay, they come direct from china so they take a couple weeks to be delivered and they have 8 'cells' so, generally speaking, room for 8 cuts, ...i HAVE doubled up too so if you've a need for more than 8 at one time but less than 16 then just put 2 to a cell and it works just fine.

...trust me bro, cloning this way is EASY!!!

...it's also extremely reliable and VERY economical, once you have the popsicle mold and a tray to hold it (look for something in your local Dollar store, or in your regular supermarket where you get sandwich bags and such like, think disposable sandwich containers, ...i was lucky enough to find some in black plastic at my local Dollar store so no worries about algae) all you need then is a bag of fine vermiculite which you can find at a Lowes or HD for about 8 or 9 bucks a bag which will last for longer than you think.

...so cost to run these cloners is like pennies per day.

...if you try it and you like it you might then consider getting the vermiculite from someplace like Amazon, it might be cheaper and you can buy it in larger quantities.

Thanks bozo. I appreciate it. Thank you Budley for showing us all the thread and making it. Good stuff.

I've had good luck with cuts in straight coco no dome no special attention no problem. It takes patience and I lose a few to damping off or whatever causes them to wilt. I got 8 cuts in a tray under a dome this time and I'm keeping it humid. Mostly I just pop them in coco and let the strong survive. Lately I must be slacking because they don't go for that so much anymore. Must be keeping me on me toes.

Trout.

Def took that tip from you propping bins like that. So simple but I never thought of it. That's basically what I have going on except coco not perlite.

Let me point something out to the casual observer....

Trout and Bozo use different mediums...

Trout .... perlite
Bozo ..... vermiculite

In order to keep the plants trout has to work a little harder to maintain the proper humidity... perlite

Bozo.... for small clones and using vermiculite needs to do nothing but plant them and maintain the rez a couple times over 2 weeks

Just sayin

...since i have indeed tried the perlite mass cloner tip i have to agree with Budley in that the vermiculite as the medium makes this work with almost zero effort, all i need do is make sure the reservoirs are at the correct temperature range, 80 - 82degrees, and make sure the reservoirs don't dry out and that is IT, no humidity domes necessary and in 14 days i pop out my rooted clones and call it another happy day.

...there are several very good and reliable methods of rooting clones and i have tried more than a few and i'd have to say that this passive, wick-style cloning with vermiculite as my medium is the simplest and least labor intensive method i've ever tried and it is also one of the most reliable methods i've ever tried, anything less than 90% rooted and i feel like it's a bad run.

for the newcomer this should always be the go-to method of cloning, they can alwasy complicate things down the road but in the beginning, simple and reliable and cheap is the way to go.

I don't do shit for up to 5 days..then prop open lids for a couple days then remove lids...then water as needed either by adding to tray or handwater each....yeehaw...cups hold enough moisture for rooting and a lot of roots being 16 oz...the lids don't completely seal even when shut there is small gaps at ends ....I need humidity dome initially no matter what medium I use as theres real low humidity in my setup..i have yet to find a easier cheaper way for me....with heat mats and temp controller its sweet and getting 100 percent is common but we all loose some now an then...perlite don't compact like vermiculite/hold too much water and is a superior rooting substrate in my gardens ...been there done that...the best part is the cups then get planted into growbags and the perlite makes watering easier...24 cups or so per tray..tried smaller cups and didn't work as well so 16 oz cups recommended...use whatever method suits your individual needs...I have tried em all at one time or another

When he says been there done that it's true. if trout were to say: well ya know once, I..... just fill in the fuckin blank no need to buy a vowel.because it could be anything and he'll probably say he tried it.

The bigger the stem the faster it roots in my experience. I have cloned whole branches. Why? Why not.... roots started very quickly.

I take decent sized cuts..the stem usually goes almost to bottom of cups and above cups is 5 inches or so usually..i bury nodes and don't bother with angle cuts or stem scraping ....yeehaw...I have done lots of experimenting over the years and found what works for me...had horrible time learning to clone right ..took me forever..water cloning was the worst for me..i don't ever plan on changing my cloning ways now...

Every clone i ever took has been a top/tip cut. Tip cuttings are the best in my opinion, you're not only getting a clone but you are topping the plant at the same time

Russian berry 17 days in. I have 20 plus main colas per plant. I run. 2 per 600.

Russian berry 17 days in. I have 20 plus main colas per plant. I run. 2 per 600.

I clean it up after I open up the canopy. Looks like a mess now but I pull 7-8 zips per plant. mostly colas off this Russian berry. Big buds easy trimming. 5-6 week veg and I consider myself a hobby grower.
