Clear Pots, Good or Bad?

Hey everyone, I am not sure if clear 1 liter pots are a bad or good idea. I will be using soil in this nice little micro grow idea. I just happen to find these nice little containers in the paint dept. at the hardware store. Will clear pots cause any growing issues, stunt growth maybe???

Peace :joint:

I have always wondered about white containers, likely for no reason.

Anyone care to educate?

I used clear cups for my clones because my girl bought the wrong ones. It was nice to see the roots grow, but after a week or so I noticed green mold around the edges of the soil. I believe this was caused by light getting to the soil but Im not positive.

What about them? As long as they are opaque they are good to go.. :joint:

These are 4.5 gallon containers that are clear plastic. And my plants are growing VERY well in them. I repotted in them about two weeks ago.

People who say clear pots are bad are full of shit and this proves it...at least for me. You can see roots and check for plant health. Look at moisture travel.

here is the "runt" of my 4 girls. A picture of health isnt she at day 23 of flower

Here they are at day 17 flower when I transplanted

Light where the roots are means algae, which will compete with your plant for food and oxygen, otherwise, it's not _that_ big a deal.

I'll see if I can get a good closeup picture of my pots, rootball, etc. There is no algae in mine that I can see.

If you really are worried, then don't use them...or wrap white plastic around clear pots if that's all you have to use.

Being able to see your roots is an advantage IMO. You can tell if and when the plant is getting rootbound and can transplant at the best time. You can also see how healthy the roots are without disturbing the plant.

I like using clear pots so far. If I have problems, I'll be the fiirst to admit I was wrong. Right now I don't see any problems...and I don't anticipate any.

However, everyone has their own way of doing things...so do what you want.

Clear containers, no problem with the roots. I was able to tell if they were getting rootbound, and there was never any sign of algea. Couple bagseed plants, 150w HPS

THANK YOU!!!

THANK YOU!!!

Thanks to all for the great input.

I have made a decision to try out the clear pot theory on a runt from my current grow, before I put an entire micro grow together with these clear pots.
This little runt is actually in flowering stage and is growing a small cola.

This is the runt about 13 days ago, born on 3/25/07, under 12/12 lighting from seed.

This is her today, with her new CLEAR POT!!! :yoinks:

:canabis: If anybody is interested, I am a new grower and you can watch my whole little experiment at:

I don't use anything but clear cups for clones. I've never had a problem with them. You can see the roots that way instead of flipping the cup upside down and disturbing it by pulling it out of the cup. This is a farce as far as I'm concerned. I have a 99% success rate with my clones.

Our local dollar store sells those clear cups 3 for a $. They are bigger than solo cups. I like them for the clones. Like some have said, you can see root development. I haven't seen any problem using them.

I like the stackable storage boxes to grow in. Some come in solid black, some in a clear blue and some just clear. Can't say theres a diffence between them, appart from seeing what's going on better in the clear plastic. But then I also learned not to cut drainage holes, not to feed, and not to worry about keeping lighting at exactly 12-12 either, so most tend to shake their head at me until they see my results.

I currently am growing some new strains. I purchased some clear containers and put a strip of tape down one side before painting the containers black.
The clear strip allows the roots to be seen when they reach the sides without having the algae grow everywhere.
Although I have to admit the completely clear containers that have turned a very dark green do not seem adversely affected.
Autopsies done on clear containers found the algae layer to be less than 1/8" thick at the worst spot.
Not a problem.

I use clear cups for clones but I buy matching opaque cups and just nest them inside ease of checking roots but no algae
