As of 4/21/16 Chicago had racked up 1000 shootings. This is extremely sad. It's shocking this could happen in a city with some of the strictest gun control laws in America. Does anyone think the enhanced background checks various groups want or gun registrations, or even buy back programs such as the one HRC finds worth exploring would have stopped any single one of these shootings?

We live in a gun happy society and the only time you'll see any outrage is when a cop shoots somebody.

Luckily the East Coast is experiencing bad weather this weekend so hopefully it'll cut back on the guns/booze/fireworks and alla the 'acting out' that goes along with the love of drama here.:tiphat:

urban warfare, I'll keep my guns and sanity here in the country. People ask me all the time why I live way out in the boonies.

I left NY because of my cocaine addiction, but not before seeing 3 or 4 dead bodies on the streets of the Bronx, all @ different times over an 8.5 year period.

The '80s & early '90s saw some crazy murder rates in NY, 1990 NYC had 2245 murders, of course not all from shootings.......

Gangsters use guns for violent purposes. The boys in blue are usually the biggest, baddest gang in the land. If they're not shooting other gangsters, they really shouldn't be shooting, most of the time. If they are shooting gangsters who cares, that's between those parties. The outrage insues when violence is perpetrated against innocents. Cops are just like other gangsters a lot of time, in the regard that many like to be bullies and do not like to follow rules. People don't get upset usually when cops are shooting gangsters, but shooting unarmed people in the back, and crazy people weilding knives that are 30 feet away from them and don't pose an immediate threat or danger to anyone, will get some people riled up for sure.

A few years ago I took a class in speech recognition (on computers), that was part of the school's Disability resources program.

They had a speaker's day where one of the alumna came back and talked.

The guy that spoke had gotten his nursing degree, and went to work at some higher paying higher pressure operating rooms in SF.

But before that
... he had made the mistake of being somewhere near some of the neighborhoods where being white could make you part of someone's gang initiation.

In Chicago.

For reasons unknown, he was knocked unconscious and was subsequently cut up - Eyelids cut-off, carvings elsewhere on his body.

Dumped by the side of the road. Came to a few days later.

Called up a friend in California, who helped him rent a place near Sonoma State.

Ended up living in Norcal long enough to get his nursing degree.

I like walking in industrial areas & warehouse districts. So that means logging a fair number of miles near various projects.

I think that might have been safe once, but not anymore.

I fear bullet rich environments - e.g. Chicago - the way I fear Pipeline - both can put you in a wheelchair, paralyzed.

Areas with a lot of gun violence make me wonder about the leaders.

Imagine if all that energy were unleashed on a 5 acre plot of land.

you must have been from the suburbs...

anyway the reason there's so much violence in chicago is because gangs and lack of policing. the only time the cops care about anything in chicago is if there's donuts or cameras involved.

but i guess it translates to "ghetto people giving no fucks" if you on the outside looking in. :tiphat::thank you:

Last week the Chicago Tribune pointed out that nearly 100 people had been shot in Chicago in less than a week. 9 people were killed on Monday alone marking the deadliest day for the city in 13 years. Now, with weekend data out, turns out the story is even worse. For the week ended 8/13, a total of 110 people were shot in Chicago with 24 of them killed. YTD statistics indicate the city is spiraling out of control with total shootings up to 2,621, a mere ~50% YoY increase, with 445 total homicides.

pour a little more shit in Chitown's water, kill all the homeless especially "useless eaters" homeless kids and they are a sure bet to host the next olympics. :)
