Nichiren Daishonin states: "You must not only persevere yourself; you must also teach others."* Let us deeply study this Buddhist philosophy and share it with others. If we strive to make such sincere efforts we are certain to establish an important and precious turning point in our faith.

Daisaku Ikeda

*Gosho - The True Aspect of All Phenomena - WND1, page 386, "You must not only persevere yourself; you must also teach others. Both practice and study arise from faith. Teach others to the best of your ability, even if it is only a single sentence or phrase."

"Now, no matter what, strive in faith and be known as a votary of the Lotus Sutra, and remain my disciple for the rest of your life. If you are of the same mind as Nichiren, you must be a Bodhisattva of the Earth."

I've been attending meetings everyday, one after the other! I'm chanting as much as possible. I do more daimoku in the morning and want to be doing 3 hours a day (at least). Last night I traveled to the Zone meeting with all the Young Men leaders from 10pm to 1140. I got pulled over and accused of tailgating an undercover cop (bogus), but I will prevail and will keep doing everything I can to actualize kosen-rufu everyday.

If your not chanting everyday, your still just a common ordinairy mortal and ignoring you Buddhahood. Let's chant with conviction and a strong determination! That's what I'm getting from PTD recent posts from Nichiren's words to his closest disciple Nikko (at the time). I also derive so much encouragement from President Ikeda's words posted by PTD. I also really really appreciate that this place is still here! I'm doing everything to win at everything. Life is either win or lose, there is no middle ground in regards to our lives. Although we walk the middle way in the practice its because we must win at everything and consistantly strive for this sort of life. Nichiren was a fucking winner and President Ikeda is certainly winning in his life, I'm a direct follower of there ambitions, expectations and results.

I am a Buddha and if you join me in constantly chanting "Nam-myoho-renge-kyo!" you have also just revealed your true self as the magnificent Buddha that you always are.

Just got back from the meeting! I'm so exhausted, but still determined to absolutely help every one of you and help every member win in their lives anyway possible. Fighting fundamental darkness is not an easy task and I sure have a long way to go to accomplish enough human revolution to be more effective at helping each of you. I truly realize that everything depends on how much Daimoku I'm chanting to the Gohonzon. That is the key!

Welcome DB!!! We look forward to you joining us on the path as we encourage each other! Through the daily tasks of expressing our Human Revolution we can help make a small change that can contribute to a big one. Even just one life has immeasurable value!

How nice of you to stop by! There are MANY pages of posts that preceed this one. I warmly encourage you to read as much as you can. Many of the Daishonin's Gosho are contained in their entirety. If you take the time, if am quite certain you will enjoy what has already been expressed.

We look forward to your contribution in adding more. You'll note we mostly go by a Soka Gakkai Internaltional interpretation of the Daishonin's teachings. Regardless of the foolishness that seems to be prevalent on the internet, the SGI practice of Faith, Practice and Study has been working quite well for us here as you'll read for yourself.

Mugi wasshin, baby! (Doubt-free faith, baby!)

Bowing in humble obeisance,

Thomas

"Whether you chant the Buddha’s name, recite the sutra, or merely offer flowers and incense, all your virtuous acts will implant benefits and roots of goodness in your life. With this conviction you should strive in faith."

"Normally, most people aren’t aware of how they are thought of by those around them. Some are convinced that they can get away with not doing their best, instead doing just enough to get by. In fact, this is an extremely shallow way of thinking, because it completely disregards the value of others’ trust, which is actually the most important treasure as a human being and a member of society."

"While the four sufferings of birth, aging, sickness, and death are unavoidable, Buddhism teaches that 'They [who have heard the Law] will enjoy peace and security in their present existence and good circumstances in future existences' (LSOC5, 136).

"'As human beings, we can't escape from the sufferings of aging, sickness, and death, but that doesn't necessarily mean our lives will be unhappy. What we need to do is build an invincible, strong, expansive, rich state of life that doesn't succumb to such sufferings as sickness and aging. Our Buddhist faith and practice are key to achieving that. Through our faith and practice we can open the way to enjoying peace and security in our present existence and good circumstances in future existences.

"Those who polish and train their spirits and dedicate themselves to the mission of kosen-rufu will be fulfilled and brimming with joy day after day, even though they may be old and in poor health."

If just one person decides to stand up,
then two, three and many more will follow,
When we ourselves take the initiative,
with a strong bold determination,
a great move towards glorious victory starts to unfold for many.

"The actions of genuine Buddhist practitioners are characterised by valuing and caring for each individual. Shakyamuni Buddha gave his all to encouraging every person he encountered. Nichiren Daishonin made unceasing efforts to encourage his followers throughout his life. The Soka Gakkai’s first two presidents Tsunesaburo Makiguchi and Josei Toda also always poured their entire beings into encouraging each person they met. Buddhism would have no meaning if it lost this essential spirit of valuing and caring for each individual."

The Daishonin states,
"Buddhism primarily concerns itself with victory or defeat."*
It is vital that we speak with unwavering determination.
Let's speak with the courage of a lion king, and be victorious!
Let's all advance together with the very spirit
that we are all different in body but united in mind.

"One day, my mentor Josei Toda and I were talking about the Soka Gakkai's mission to widely propagate the Mystic Law, and I asked him why it was important to strive in faith with the spirit of 'not begrudging one's life' taught in the Lotus Sutra. He replied to the effect:

"'On our planet, people kill each other in wars; our economies are based on the survival of the fittest, and do not necessarily lead to human happiness; and many of society's leaders, who by rights ought to help others, instead often look down on and exploit people. And the same kind of thing is found in such spheres as politics, science, and religion. Call it humanity's karma, but society is complex and full of contradictions. Nowhere there can we find the fundamental path to happiness for all people.

"'Only Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism sets forth the means for fundamentally transforming our karma. It teaches the path of eternity, happiness, true self, and purity, the path of lasting fulfilment and satisfaction. There is no higher path in life than this. That is why, if you give your all for the sake of faith, you will never regret it.'

"Deeply moved by Mr. Toda's words, I renewed my determination to give my all in pursuing this unparalleled path in life just as he taught.

"There is no more exciting, satisfying, or meaningful way to spend one's life than dedicating it to the noble cause of realising happiness for all humanity."

"Therefore, the best way to attain Buddhahood is to encounter a good friend. How far can our own wisdom take us? If we have even enough wisdom to distinguish hot from cold, we should seek out a good friend."

22. Entrustment

Text: “In future ages if there are good men and good women] who have faith in the wisdom of the Thus Come One, you should preach and expound the Lotus Sutra for them.”

Alternative reading: [If there are good men and good women] who have faith in the wisdom of the Thus Come One, and if you preach for them, you should preach and expound the Lotus Sutra.

Summary: This passage is saying that the enlightenment of the Thus Come One Shakyamuni has nothing about it that is different from the enlightenment of all living beings. Therefore to have faith in the wisdom of the Thus Come One is to have faith in the Wonderful Law. This is the wisdom of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo.

23. Former Affairs of the Bodhisattva Medicine King

Text: “This is true diligence. This is what is called a true Dharma offering to the Thus Come One.”

Summary: This passage describes a meditation or concentration on the Middle Way that embraces all forms and scents, that never slackens. This is what is called “a true Dharma offering to the Thus Come One.” Because Nam-myoho-renge-kyo is the sole and only Law of the one vehicle, it is called the true Dharma. Both worldly and spiritual affairs are the true aspect that is pure and unalloyed.

24. The Bodhisattva Wonderful Sound

Text: “[Thereupon the bodhisattva Wonderful Sound, without rising from his seat] or swaying his body, entered into a samadhi,”

Glosses on the right:
without swaying—the distant past
samadhi—Land of Eternally Tranquil Light

Summary: This passage is saying that to become enlightened to the truth of the distant past is to be in a state in which “the body does not sway.” To enter the Land of Eternally Tranquil Light without having to eliminate obstacles of illusions is called “samadhi.” This is the samadhi of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo.
