"(Words are what give expression to the distinctions that are thought of in the mind. Therefore, outside of the mind there are neither distinctions nor the absence of distinctions.) Words echo the thoughts of the mind and find expression through the voice."

You have associated with a friend in the orchid room and have become as straight
as mugwort growing among hemp. If you will truly give consideration to the
troubles I have been describing and put entire faith in these words of mine,
then the winds will blow gently, the waves will be calm, and in no time at all
we will enjoy bountiful harvests.

Let's be sure to express the utmost respect and admiration to all of our fellow members, who are so selflessly dedicating themselves to achieving kosen-rufu! Those who are sincere and earnest in encouraging others naturally shine with happiness and success. Let's all advance together, proving that "it is the heart that is important."**

Daisaku Ikeda

*"Working for people's happiness is something everyone can do, regardless of circumstances. ... In the end, it comes down to the effort to engage with and encourage others. ... Encouraging others enables us to fully grasp the meaning of our lives and experience enduring happiness. ... This is a revolution that starts here, now--in the heart of every one of us." (Excerpted from Embracing the Future--Essays by Daisaku Ikeda published by The Japan Times)

Where can we find the royal road to reformation and change? Emerson declared:
"Not he is great who can alter matter, but he who can alter my state of mind."
He strongly urged us to undergo an inner reformation. I want you to be assured
that the challenge to which we set ourselves day after day -- that of our human
revolution -- is the royal road to bringing about a reformation in our families,
local regions and societies. An inner revolution is the most fundamental and at
the same times the ultimate revolution for engendering change in all things.

My friends on Monday I'm going to host a ten (10) hour toso in my home from 10 am to 8pm. You are cordially invited to join me physically or anywhere you may be. I've never chanted this much in one day and the most I have done straight in one sitting is five (5) hours twice. This will be for appreciation for the Gohonzon's unlimited mercy. I'm so grateful for being able to share this practice on a daily basis surrounded now by people who are either compassionate about my practice or actively involved with me in turning poison into medicine and helping other chant the daimoku of The Lotus Sutra. This practice is about our hearts and expanding the love we can build from within, of course that's only because we are Buddhas that love to live on this earth as Bodhisattvas chanting daimoku!

Finishing the year this way is very appropriate for me and I have recently been reaping what I have been chanting for... my new boss is changing his attitude towards me and so is another troubled co-worker. Nothing is impossible when I put my faith in the Gohonzon and make the right causes. I feel really positive and look forward to sharing some more great heart to hearts with my chanting grower friends throughout the rest of this year. My mother tonight agreed to let me accompany her for her intravenous chemo treatment next week. I told her about the 10 hour toso and she might come :)

The Lotus Sutra has the drama of fighting for justice against evil. It has the warmth that comforts the weary. It has a vibrant, pulsing courage that drives away fear. It has a chorus of joy at attaining absolute freedom throughout past, present and future. It has the soaring flight of liberty. It has brilliant light, flowers, greenery, music, paintings, vivid stories. It offers unsurpassed lessons on psychology, the workings of the human heart; lessons on life; lessons on happiness; and lessons on peace. It maps out the basic rules for good health. It awakens us to the universal truth that a change in one's heart can transform everything. It is neither the parched desert of individualism nor the prison of totalitarianism; it has the power to manifest a pure land of compassion, in which people complement and encourage one another.

A single life is worth more than the major world system. You still have many
years ahead of you, and moreover you have encountered the Lotus Sutra. If you
live even one day longer, you can accumulate that much more benefit. How truly
precious your life is!

Joy is not simply your personal, egoistic happiness. Nor is it making others
happy at the expense of your own happiness. You and others delighting together,
you and others becoming happy together -- this is the Mystic Law and the
wondrous thing about our realm of kosen-rufu. The Daishonin states, "Joy means
that both oneself and others have wisdom and compassion" (Gosho Zenshu, p. 761).

Gold can be neither burned by fire nor corroded or swept away by water, but iron
is vulnerable to both. A worthy person is like gold, a fool like iron. You are
like pure gold because you embrace the "gold" of the Lotus Sutra. The sutra
states, "Just as among all the mountains, Mount Sumeru is foremost, so this
Lotus Sutra is likewise." It also states, "The good fortune you gain thereby ...
cannot be burned by fire or washed away by water."

Hi CGG,

The Pumpkin Man and I have been a strumming for bout a yr now. He's picking it up pretty good. He has a good ear and is understanding the language of music. It seems somewhat intuiative for him.

I was not happy with the music school we had been with being so loud with all the rooms clangin away and intrusions. So I chanted for a solution.

So here it is: A friend who is SGI has a professional recording studio in his home. It's remote but not too far on 30 acres. He has everything!!

(Control Room: MCI-JH600 36 ch., Mackie Onyx 24 ch. consoles utilizing ProTools (48trks.) and MSR-24 S (1" tape deck)
driven by a suite of discrete pre-amps, diverse collection of microphone featuring a separate DW drum/bass room and ISO booth. Our studio provides musicians with the resources within a unique environment to fulfill any project objective without the restrictions associated with commercial facilities.)

It's a chill mellow place to be sure. Instead of 25 students blasting in and out, it's just us 3.

He is a master sound engineer and musician. He has played a variety of instruments for more than 35 years. We'll see him every week. The repore with the Pumpkin Man and our new teacher is perfect!

And what a deal...just a few nugs of my sweetest herb.

He'll be teaching PM keyboards with guitar and invite him in for recording sessions to see how it's all done. I wonder how many 8 year olds have such a great opportunity?

The Pumpkin Man has perfect fortune. Our 1st day was yesterday, the anniversary of John Lennons death.

So here's a lil ditty... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrJtGvfCMaI

Lennon & McCartney captured magic and music came out.

Survived the week, feeling better than I started off. The power of daimoku is absolute!

I'm really stoked about this commitment to complete 10 hours in one day of straight daimoku. A bunch of people will be showing up to chant on Monday and the last our will be the regular monday night toso from 7-8pm.

I feel really good and I hope everyone else is doing good! Just keep chanting in the face of adversity when the going gets rough because as soon as you make that cause everything else you need is set into motion! PEACE TO ALL!

We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts.
With our thoughts, we make our world.

Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future,
concentrate the mind on the present moment.

Words have the power to both destroy and heal. When words are
both true and kind, they can change our world.

Pay no attention to the faults of others,
things done or left undone by others.
Consider only what by oneself is done or left undone.

What we think, we become

On life's journey Faith is nourishment,
Virtuous deeds are a shelter,
Wisdom is the light by day and Right mindfulness is the protection by night.
If a man lives a pure life nothing can destroy him;
If he has conquered greed nothing can limit his freedom.

One of his students asked Buddha, "Are you the messiah?"
"No", answered Buddha.

"Then are you a healer?"
"No", Buddha replied.

"Then are you a teacher?" the student persisted.
"No, I am not a teacher."

"Then what are you?" asked the student, exasperated.
"I am awake", Buddha replied
