When once we chant Myoho-renge-kyo, with just that single sound we summon forth
and manifest the Buddha nature of all Buddhas; all existences; all bodhisattvas;
all voice-hearers; all the deities such as Brahma, Shakra, and King Yama; the
sun and moon, and the myriad stars; the heavenly gods and earthly deities, on
down to hell-dwellers, hungry spirits, animals, asuras, human and heavenly
beings, and all other living beings. This blessing is immeasurable and
boundless.

Buddhism aims to make people free in the most profound sense; its purpose is not
to restrict or constrain. Doing gongyo is a right, not an obligation. Because
Buddhism entails practice, tenacious efforts are required, but these are all for
your own sake. If you want to have great benefits or to develop a profound state
of life, you should exert yourself accordingly.

true happiness is not a delusion but rather the joy that emanates from within when we are confident in the understanding of the cause and effect of our own being and energies and while to live to fullest extent of our potential harmoniously with the world around it

true happiness brings us back to when we were children awaking to a new world of unfolding discoveries

true happiness as I understand it from Nichiren's teachings (and thus perspective) will so profoundly move you, because in that state you will know its source, that you upon filling with true happiness yourself, you will with every grain of your being, wish the same for others

whats the shortcut to this happiness?

time and effort being a very relative thing, the shortcut is selfless giving, the work of the bodhisattva

now you might ask or say, sounds like a way to get people to sucker up to just give shit away

no

let me explain

you are cultivating faith in nam myoho renge kyo

to understand what this means and how it is relative to you, understand that I am suggesting you give a part off you selflessly to the world directly around you

in any way you choose

without anything but a positive hope, faith, that the world will manifest the energy to something positive

lose the notion of how, make it selfless and without a direct benefit that you can imagine

do it for goodwill

now observe the world around you after. not scrutinize but file it back in your mind, try doing it again in small measures

what you will see is that like the sailor marooned on a desert island who sends out a bottle with a message in it into the currents of the ocean, hope in and of itself does not manifest until you take action

hope is the foundation of faith, and faith when it is actualized is what brings enlightenment

we do this in our gardens every day

plant with hope and faith and many of the best growers go by what they know will be now by what they see in front of them

the wisdom gained by cause and effect brings our craft to the next level

and so if the same dynamic is applied to how we live in this world, selflessly give to the spirit of humanity, open our microcosm of humanity to the macrocosm of humanity, we will learn the cause and effect of humanity itself

The sun rises every day. On cloudy days, stormy days, winter or summer, the sun is always shining. This is a law of the Universe. No one can deny that truth. We, too, must live each day of our lives to the fullest.

The benefit of all the other sutras is uncertain, because they teach that one
must first make good causes and only then can one become a Buddha at some later
time. With regard to the Lotus Sutra, when one's hand takes it up, that hand
immediately attains Buddhahood, and when one's mouth chants it, that mouth is
itself a Buddha, as, for example, the moon is reflected in the water the moment
it appears from behind the eastern mountains, or as a sound and it's echo arise
simultaneously.

Please steadily advance along the fundamental path of "faith manifests itself in
daily life," living in the way that best suits you. Just as the sun rises every
day, if you persistently advance based on the Mystic Law, the absolute Law of
the universe, you will definitely be able to lead a life in which all desires
are fulfilled, a life that you cannot now even conceive of. Please be convinced
that you are now leading the most certain and valuable life.

From the Writings of Nichiren Daishonin
Wednesday, November 17, 2010:

The same is true of your attaining Buddhahood. No matter what grave offenses you might have committed, because you did not turn against the Lotus Sutra, but showed your devotion by accompanying me, you will surely become a Buddha. Yours is like the case of King Possessor of Virtue, who gave his life to save the monk Realization of Virtue and became Shakyamuni Buddha. Faith in the Lotus Sutra acts as a prayer [to attain Buddhahood]. Strengthen your resolve to seek the way all the more and achieve Buddhahood in this lifetime.

Daily Encouragement by Daisaku Ikeda
Wednesday, November 17, 2010:

Only if you challenge your human revolution in a manner that is true to yourself will the people around you naturally begin to trust and respect you. That in itself is the greatest way of laying the groundwork for the spread of Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism.

Wisdom for Modern Life by Daisaku Ikeda
Wednesday, November 17, 2010:

The Lotus Sutra, which explains that all people can attain Buddhahood and that all people are Buddhas, embodies a spirit of supreme respect for human beings. By contrast, those teachings and ideas that seek to turn people into objects to be exploited embody ultimate disrespect for human beings. Such disrespect is an expression of fundamental darkness. On the level of the individual, practicing the Lotus Sutra means confronting the fundamental darkness in one's own life.

Thus it seemed that I could not possibly escape with my life. Whatever the
design of the heavenly gods in the matter may have been, every single steward
and Nembutsu believer worthy of the name kept strict watch on my hut day and
night, determined to prevent anyone from communicating with me. Never in any
lifetime will I forget how in those circumstance you, with Abutsu-bo carrying a
wooden container of food on his back, came in the night again and again to bring
me aid.

The Daishonin explains the significance of cause and effect: All sutras other
than the Lotus Sutra expound that Buddhahood (effect), can be attained only
after having made good causes, that is, practicing their teachings (causes),
over a length of time. With the Lotus Sutra, however, the very act of embracing
it (cause) enables one simultaneously to become a Buddha (effect).

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"'To me, the true purpose of thinking about the future is not merely imagining how it might be but rather deciding what we will do about it. Each individual's attitude towards living is reflected in their life as a whole, influencing the age and ultimately affecting history. I believe that a new path is opened in this way. It follows, then, that the future resides in the heart of each of us alive today, and in our actions in our daily lives.'

"The future lives within the attitudes we keep. It's not some rosy dream guaranteed to us without any efforts of our own. It will remain a fantasy unless we strive to make it a reality. Nor is the future necessarily dark and grim--such a vision of the future is the product of passivity and the refusal to strive for something better.

"We need to see the present clearly and objectively, envision the future we want, and then act to make it a reality. We need to strive our hardest, trusting in the power of our lives and the potential within humanity.

"Buddhism is a teaching that draws out the unlimited potential we each possess."

This week I've been working like a horse, I'm about to run to school and have been defeating fundamental darkness. Our friend/brother chase got a job by chanting daimoku and gongyo the night before the interview, chanting and doing gongyo the morning of the interview and chanting on the way there! He's never had a real job and this is huge!

I'm also looking for work before I let these devils at my job get the best of me. Either way, I've still earned enough respect at work to hopefully finish up the year while I look for work, but graduation is almost here and the best is yet to come. So this week has been loads of stress, but if anyone can handle it, its me! This practice has me redlining in a good way everyday, I'm pushing it to the limit!

Big ups and respect to Weird, Desi, Socal and Brother bud. Where's T-bone?

Peace to all!
