From Words of Wisdom, by President Ikeda, on "Self Mastery". www.ikedaquotes.org.

It is not how you compare to others that is important, but rather how you compare to who you were yesterday. If you've advanced even one step, then you've achieved something great.

Don't put on airs. Conceit and pretense don't win people's hearts; the façade soon crumbles. Be yourself. Buddhism teaches we can shine most brilliantly through natural, unaffected behavior. Being sincere, dedicated and honest is the key. People of integrity triumph in the end.

Whats in your heart this morning?

I try to check my girls and chant in the morning, and I try to remind myself its the happiness of all that will bring us to peace and harmony so in order to maintain my own happiness I wish for the happiness of all those iv'e encountered.

Regardless of the karmic energies between us, i set my heart to hope for their happiness.

Its a hard practice, but I have found the first morning smoke and vibe is a good place to wish happiness for those you care about and then I chant to my girls with that hope i ring into my mind the people i may have had conflict with, people who i may not normally be able to hope like this for them.

I wouldn't suggest it if it didn't bring great reward, I wouldn't do it if it didn't have great benefit

chanting however will bring its own affirmation if you can imply practice faithfully and observe the cause and effect it has on your life

Had a chanting meeting last night, caught up with all my outstanding bills and homework/projects, I'm feeling good! Got some Sour Diesel to medicate with and tonight a Haze x Blueberry hybrid which is supposed to be good meds for anxiety is coming my way!!! After the good times on Saturday night I had a really difficult time from Sunday morning until last night when the meeting started. I did laugh at that devil of the sixth heaven when things were going absolutely wrong, and realized that last week I wasn't chanting as much I normally do, but after chanting with Chase, my chanting growing brother and me everything became totally clear in regards to my medicating. I still have to take a break for a month or so because I might be drug tested in January and need to be prepared, but right now I'm so happy to be in good spirits and even happier to be surrounded by such great friends on this thread.

Weird, your growth and determined spirit is shining brightly over here. I know where you've been (as you've posted and told me) and I can see that if you continue making these great causes the best is yet to come for us. I know together, our faith will continue to build bridges and expand the goodness in everyone's hearts. Having a friend like you makes me appreciate my family in life like my gf, the babbas, chase and you. I'm a humble and simple man when it comes friendships and family situations, but having yall makes me a wealthy man in my mind body and soul.

Babba, keep on keeping on BUD! I'm creating the best possible environment for you! When you stop by, so many people will embrace you and momma because we have been doing a lot of kosen-rufu and I always pay my respect for you and thomas on the same token everytime people say "where did you learn about that!" I've learned it all on this thread and when I learned things on my own I could still find them in the thread.

Hi Everyone,

If you haven't yet recieved the Gohonzon, I urge you too. For CGG'ers who have not yet made the plunge, jump in. Everyone.

It's a very personal relationship that developes between ourselves and our personal Gohonzon.

Life is but a dream.

Just as flowers open up and bear fruit, just as the moon appears and invariably grows full, just as a lamp becomes brighter when oil is added, and just as plants and trees flourish with rain, so will human beings never fail to prosper when they make good causes.

Each of you should summon up the courage of a lion king and never succumb to
threats from anyone. The lion king fears no other beast, nor do its cubs.
Slanderers are like barking foxes, but Nichiren's followers are like roaring
lions.

In the end, no one can escape death. The sufferings at that time will be exactly
like what we are experiencing now. Since death is the same in either case, you
should be willing to offer your life for the Lotus Sutra. Think of this offering
as a drop of dew rejoining the ocean, or a speck of dust returning to the earth.

If you seek enlightenment outside yourself, then your performing even ten
thousand practices and ten thousand good deeds will be in vain. It is like the
case of a poor man who spends night and day counting his neighbor's wealth but
gains not even half a coin. That is why the T'ien-t'ai school's commentary
states, "Unless one perceives the nature of one's life, one cannot eradicate
one's grave offenses." This passage implies that, unless one perceives the
nature of one's life, one's practice will become an endless, painful austerity.

In the "Record of the Orally Transmitted Teachings," Nichiren Daishonin says
with reference to attaining Buddhahood, "'To attain' means 'to open'" (Gosho
Zenshu, p. 753) Attaining Buddhahood means opening our lives to their fullest
potential and revealing our innate Buddhahood. This is the purpose of Buddhism.

Kyo'o's misfortune will change into fortune. Muster your faith, and pray to this
Gohonzon. Then what is there that cannot be achieved? There can be no doubt
about the sutra passages the say, "This sutra can fulfill their desires, as a
clear cool pond can satisfy all those who are thirsty," and "They will enjoy
peace and security in their present existence and good circumstances in future
existences."

There are various kinds of careers and roles that people fill in society. While
each role of course has significance, the fundamental role that we each play as
a Buddhist is that of philosopher of life and of humanity who can impart eternal
value to humankind. We are leaders of happiness and creators of peace. In this
sense, our role is unique.

"Teaching another something is the same as oiling the wheels of a cart so that they turn even though it is heavy, or as floating a boat on water so that it moves ahead easily."

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"Eiichi Shibusawa (1840-1931), a Japanese entrepreneur and philanthropist, said: 'There is nothing in the world that is as deep and powerful as sincerity.' In our present-day society, in which human relationships are growing increasingly weak, sincere dialogue has become even more important.

"No one valued dialogue more than Nichiren Daishonin. In his writings, he states that, in the course of spreading his doctrines, he has had occasion to meet with a great many more people than anyone else (cf. WND-2, 778). Similarly, all of your efforts to engage others in dialogue constitute an important part of Buddhist practice directly connected to this spirit of the Daishonin.

"I'm sure there will be times when you are faced with hostility or resistance. But, those experiences will make you much stronger. The Daishonin writes: 'Because I have persevered without fear [against obstacles and persecutions], there are now people who think my teachings may be true' (cf. WND-1, 489). Even if the other person may
not respond positively at that time, through persevering in dialogue with courage and sincerity, you will definitely be able to earn their trust. This trust will ultimately blossom into friendship and understanding."
