Well Bog, I have thought alot about the format of some of your postings, the way you present yourself and the way in which you ask questions of all. So I decided to respond to you in the "somewhat" same manner with my questions to you.

I am presently engaged in a spiritual quest for the Celebration of life through a universal love, and to achieve a spiritual coming together with another human being, which I believe to have found here in this thread.
Life is a roller coaster through eternity. I have my life to transform to fly like an eagle, to have the inner knowledge and a vision as to how to recycle myself. I know how to emerge from the sahes of pain and defeat. I naturally pursue etremes of joy and suffering, creation and destruction. Intensity, used positively, will make me a winner. Dreams are hope! To have none is to hav no dreams, and that is the closest to death.

Those things that hurt you -teach you. How is it that we develope ourselves to welcome problems and pain?
The greatness of a person is the capacity for suffering. At what point is happiness?
If you are not a part of the solution, then you are a part of the problem. How much responsibility do you take for the solution? SG

This was the guidance card given to us in LA at our meeting.
I think of our dreams 12 years ago, and where we are today and where I will be on that day 12 years later. The joy I feel in my heart and the events at hand of where we both are from that day can only bring tears to my eyes! Remember that day big brother!

Sending loving memories and prayers to my buddy Alan Singer who was there too and cannot share this moment with me.

TOM, I don't speak for you or criticize you when I make my observations. Our harmony rests on understanding where each of us come from. You were able to accept the way I incorporate all religions into Buddhism. All politics is the same as religion or philosophy with many aspects all very deep and complicated. You have great insight and you are our leader. We are all here to learn and having you speak your opinions helps us all.

It was bound to happen that reality incringe on our fantasys of how the world should or could be and how that is to be accomplished. We all have many views and as a student I am often a trouble maker. However I didn't intend to make anything worse and I don't think about what I write much. I just write honestly and from my heart as to what I feel. Often my stated opinions sound like I think my words are the final word.

I know that I am often wrong and that many good intentioned people have different views of the world in which we live. Things never change really and discussions of religion or politics don't work well unless the people know each other very well. I do speak as if I am right and I think that everyone thinks what they say is right or they wouldn't say it. ;)

The question always becomes who is the teacher and who is the student? In reality we are all just beginneers in our understanding of our universe because it is really very complicated. Fortunately the universe is on auto pilot and the future will be. We can't change much really but for our part we can do what Buddha wanted. We can promote peace by understanding and loving each other.

Somehow this makes me sound like you aren't but that isn't the message I am sending. Tom, you are my most respected teacher of Buddhist principles and when I stated that you made SG feel like you thought she was wrong you agreed and I hope you knew what I meant. I am sure you must because I know you a little.

Sometimes I react to what I feel isn't true also and I have to be careful because disagreement is so difficult with friends. The more we say often just makes it worse but Buddhism would see the same problems in any gov't of men. For a time we can have good gov't but normally greed and ignorance rules the powerful ones. Those with money and power who continue to perpetuate this system dont make Americans bad people even with their gas guzzlers.

Americans should realize however that we are hated for good reasons. Tom is quite correct. BOG

We could all be right. But what the hell does my ufo have to do with buddhism? :D

From the Writings of Nichiren Daishonin

From the Writings of Nichiren Daishonin

Year: 1271 AD
On the day before Nichiren is banished to the province of Sado.

Letter to Priest Nichiro in Prison

TOMORROW I am to leave for
the province of Sado. In the cold
tonight, I think of what it must be like
for you in prison, and it pains me.
Admirable Nichiro, because you have
read the entirety of the Lotus Sutra
with both the physical and spiritual
aspects of your life, you will also be
able to save your father and mother,
your six kinds of relatives,
and all living beings.

Others read the Lotus Sutra
with their mouths alone, in word
alone, but they do not read it with
their hearts. And even if they read it
with their hearts, they do not read it
with their actions. It is reading the
sutra with both one's body and mind
that is truly praiseworthy!

Since the sutra teaches that "the young
sons of heavenly beings will wait on him
and serve him. Swords and staves will not
touch him and poison will have no
power to harm him," certainly nothing
untoward will befall you. When you are
released from prison, please come as
quickly as you can. I am eager to see
you, and to show you that I too am well.

With my deep respect,

Nichiren

The ninth day of the tenth month
in the eighth year of Bun'ei (1271),
cyclical sign kanoto-hitsuji.

Background
On the ninth day of the tenth month,
1271, on the eve of his departure for
Sado Island, Nichiren Daishonin wrote
this letter to Chikugo-bo Nichiro, who
was later to become one of his six
senior disciples. Nichiro and his father
had converted to the Daishonin's teach-
ings in 1254, and Nichiro had received
the tonsure under the supervision of
his uncle Nissho, also later to become
one of the six senior disciples. At the
time of the Tatsunokuchi Persecution
in the ninth month of 1271, Nichiro
and several other priest-disciples were
imprisoned in the custody of Yadoya
Mitsunori, an official of the Kamakura
government, in a dungeon carved into
the side of a hill near Mitsunori's resi-
dence in Kamakura.

In the interval between the Tatsuno-
kuchi Persecution and his exile to Sado
Island, the Daishonin was held at the
time of the Tatsunokuchi Persecution
in the ninth month of 1271, Nichiro
and several other priest-disciples were
imprisoned in the custody of Yadoya
Mitsunori, an official of the Kamakura
government, in a dungeon carved into
the side of a hill near Mitsunori's resi-
dence in Kamakura.

In the interval between the Tatsuno-
kuchi Persecution and his exile to Sado
Island, the Daishonin was held at the
mainland residence of Homma Rokuro
Saemon, the deputy constable of Sado,
in Echi of Sagami Province. It was here
that the Daishonin wrote this letter,
which demonstrates that, even when
about to embark for a destination sure
to be marked by privation and hard-
ship, his chief concern was for his dis-
ciples.

Some Nichiren History for you,

Nom myoho renge kyo, nom myoho renge kyo~ :p

Next verse same as the first...

OK, I am back to reading the Lotus Sutra and we have set up a new version of our altar. I hope this offends no one but this is our personal choice. It incorporates the 4 elements, earth, wind, water and fire. We have a living plant and a fountain surrounding the meditating Buddha. I find this statue to be entrancing in the candle light. I always hated going to church.

Anyways peace means non-violence doctrine to me and I heard that Jesus went and learned his turn the other cheek doctrine from some Hindu's. That there was a hindu fellow who promoted a non-violence doctrine about 500 years before Christ. To me this is basic to bring peace to Earth.

We must in our hearts realize that even if others use violence we cannot if we intend to achieve peace. Some may disagree with me but this is one doctrine that I believe in my heart. That we cannot justify our violent natures and rationalize that sometimes it is necessary to resort to violence.

This leads to the belief that war is just and right. You can't have peace when these basic delusions are assumptions. If you believe might must fight to be in the right I am sorry. That is the way of the Earth and we are here to change it by enlightening people as to the way.

That way which causes no pain or sufferring. I would die for this belief and I hope to be strong enough to never lose my resolve. By the grace of GOD do I pray that I won't faulter. So far in my life I have remained non violent since age 13 when I almost hurt a kid for no real reason.

I understand that many feel I am wrong but let me just lay down and die rather than fight because that's what Jesus did. Great Masters have never given their lives the priority in their work. They have given their lives to help mankind in the long run. We must all see the big picture and keep the anger out of our hearts because peace starts with each of us.

Right Tom? :D You don't fool me my teacher.... I see what you are doing.

My altar... Did you know that after Jesus resurrected himself he got into a UFO and as he left he said, "as you see me go so shall I return." We can all be there that great day when the Sky Brothers really bring Buddhism to our Gov'ts. They may use violence.

Remember that's why Jesus said, "Vengence is Mine!" We don't have to do much but stand clear... just my take. BOG

As I told Tom, "who knows which great master has reincarnated as which other ones?"

Dear Bog

Dear Bog

There is no offense in what you have done. We have all the same things on our altar. Green plants, cup of water changed daily, candles, incense and a bowl or plate with offering usually being fruit.
And I "Think" that what PTD and Stonegirl are doing is moving into their new dig in the east. Why we haven't seen him. I am taking a trip this weekend and I remember it coincided with his move.
You don't offend me in anyway. Really and truly noone has in here. This is what it is about. As you said, we are all different but very much of the same minds. All our approaches are different and that is how you touch many. So it is all good. I'm very excited for you that you are doing what you are doing. It was the purpose of this thread. Best to you, Southern Girl

Great Blessings upon you SG. Fresh fruit? Hmmm...

I feel it is my purpose to help people see that all religions are the same because religious differences have caused much strife. People who seek power always or almost always become corrupt. To me the only hope is a benevolent monarchy with an incorruptable king.

Maybe we aren't enlightened enough as a planet yet to be a democracy because we all see the world from our small view. Each of us like the wise men looking at different parts of the elephant and describing it differently.

I believe the new age approaches and that things will change for the better after some more trouble. Everyone will need to see where we are going in order for a truly new world order to be accepted. The angels in legions return with Jesus in power and glory to take our planet back from our corrupt gov'ts.

In 1974 on may 18th the night they bombed the SLA headquarters was the first time I saw a UFO with my best friend. We watched the news and were horrified that police were bombing a neighborhood home that might have that Nancy gal in there a hostage.

Funny but we turned off that hostility and violence of the gov't and walked out on my farmhouse porch. I said, "wouldn't it be cool to see a ufo." Maybe he said it I am not sure but just then we saw lights blinking. Something was coming and was it a plane?

The lights seemed so bright blinking white and it came slow and low. We could hear nothing as it appoached and it appeared to float. The underside outline was that of an equilateral triangle point forward and as it passed right over us we heard the low oscillating drone or hum. It was a ufo. We knew it right then. Holy Shit!!!

This was like a psychic experience and I told Pete, a friend whom I had once had total telepathy with, to concentrate the word, "communicate". I knew to do this and he immediately joined me in concentration. Almost immediately the white flashing lights 2 of them switched to 3 red lights which blinked 3 times in unison and something hit us like fingers pushing our brains 3 times as those red lights flashed. We had flashed a flashlight at it and I had blinked it 3 times just like that earlier.

We both felt it hard. There was no denying that this was a ufo and that it had in a way acknowledged our presence with that psychic wave. We went and wrote everything down and we were so charged up. We saw more of them that summer and the most unbelievable things were seen later.

This is off topic but I want to know how I am involved in what. Sorry but all I say is true I swear. BOG

SG, I think you are so sweet. :D

Something I picked up on another site I found interesting that confirms Bog's "religions are the same...." statement. I have not researched the below to confirm its accuracy, but it makes sense to me.

Since most religions deal with behavior toward others as a prime
rule,
the idea of treating others as we would like to be treated is pretty
universal. Here are some interpretations of that basic rule of
decency
from several religious perspectives:

The Golden Rule:

"Do unto others as you would have done unto you." This wisdom is
represented in ancient teachings and religions throughout the
world:

Hindu Faith "This is the sum of duty: do naught to others which if
done to thee would cause thee pain." - The Mahabharata

Jewish Faith "What is hateful to you, do not to your fellow men.
That is the entire Law; all the rest is commentary." - The Talmud

Zoroastrian Faith "Whatever is disagreeable to yourself do not do
unto others." - Shayast-na-Shayast 13:29

Buddhist Faith "Hurt not others in ways that you yourself would
find
hurtful." - Udana-Varga 5:18

Christian Faith "All things whatsoever ye would that men should do
to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the
prophets." - The Gospel of Matthew Matt 7:12, Luke 6:31

Muslim Faith "No one of you is a believer until he desires for his
brother that which he desires for himself." - Hadith

Baha'i Faith "And if thine eyes be turned towards justice, choose
thou for thy neighbor that which thou choosest for thyself." -
Epistle to the Son of the Wolf, 30

TAOIST "Regard your neighbor's gain as your own gain and your
neighbor's loss as your own loss." - T'ai Shang Kan Ying P'ien

BRAHMAN "This is the sum of duty: Do naught unto others which
would
cause you pain if done to you." - Mahabharata 5:1517

CONFUCIAN "Surely it is the maxim of lovingkindness: Do not unto
others what you would not have done unto you." - Analects 15:23

ZOROASTRIAN "That nature alone is good which refrains from doing
unto another whatsoever is not good for itself." - Dadistan-i-
dinik 94:5

JAINISM "In happiness and suffering, in joy and grief, we should
regard all creatures as we regard our own self" - Lord Mahavira,
24th Tirthankara

SIKHISM "Don't create enmity with anyone as God is within
everyone."
- Guru Arjan Devji 259, Guru Granth Sahib

And yet some other sources:

"Do not do unto others what angers you if done to you by others."
Isocrates 436-338 BCE

"And it harm none, do what thou wilt." Wiccan Rede

"Tzu-kung asked, 'Is there a single word which can be a guide to
conduct throughout one's life?' The Master said, 'It is perhaps
the
word "shu." Do not impose on others what you yourself do not
desire.'" Analects, 15.24

Can't figure out the 'quote' thing here

Can't figure out the 'quote' thing here

Tried to highlight Bog's quote about religion and it didn't work. Hope everyone understood what I was trying to comment on. I have never encounter an UFO but sure would love to. And I am not too far from Area 51 in the desert where many more sightings are found than in large cities I believe.

Bog made a prior post on violence and war. If I could take out the quote I would but can't do it so I will just copy/paste as I would like to comment on it.

Here it is: Bog Quote, from his post with the beautiful pic of his chanting altar We must in our hearts realize that even if others use violence we cannot if we intend to achieve peace. Some may disagree with me but this is one doctrine that I believe in my heart. That we cannot justify our violent natures and rationalize that sometimes it is necessary to resort to violence.

In my maturing years during the 60's at the time we were heavily into the Vietnam war. I had grown up in a very prejudiced environment and when young, I had played many a time with my friends acting out army games thinking it 'fun' to kill the enemy. Being the hero like WWII soldiers.

My 2nd funeral I attended was for a brother of my best friend who died in the VNwar. This was such a turning point for me as from that moment on I despised war and what it does to innocent ppl. I felt very fortunate that the year my birthday was drafted that we were withdrawing troops. My # was 18, and if the draft was still active I would have sure to go. In my heart I could have never gone. Bearing arms and killing another human being...I just couldn't have done it. Karma is strange isn't it? Maybe if things were different, I would be in Canada living now! :biglaugh:

Just a year, thereafter, I was introduced and became a Nichiren buddhist which supported my pacifist attitudes and help me eliminate and change alot about my prejudiced outlooks.

So now, being a pacifist, being against the death penalty, violence, etc puts me in a minority alot when in social gatherings with ppl from work or other friends and associates. Even my feonce! But I do stand up for my beliefs even tho it is a challenge at times and seems so difficult to change some people's thinking. Even in the SGI buddhist organization I belong, capital punishment is accepted by some members not necessarily the organization. I feel that the 'enlightenment' of ppl will continue; that many will accept a more pacifist outlook as we see the true errors in having such a violent basis for living. OUr government reflects the people. Fear creates such violence or the willingness to use violence to solve problems.

Now my dilemma: My feonce has a 45 with a loaded clip nearby for protection. I have always hated guns, never owned on (except a BBgun when young) and would strongly support outlawing them (a minority view again) but I don't know at this time what I would do should I ever encounter a loved one being harmed physically and brutally. Would I go get that gun and use it? I ponder this many times; BOG says never and I chant tht I will never be in a position of making that kind of decision.

Cheers

Happy to See You!

Happy to See You!

SoCAl....Buddy! Where ya been? I have missed seeing you. And very much appreciate your thoughts for it allows me to express something of the same nature.
I'm an Army Brat. My father was a cobra pilot and did 3 tours in Vietnam. He was missing in action twice and has a wall of medals. He was there 200%. I started at a very young age being sat down and told, "Know that I am doing what I believe in and should I not come back, you are not to be angry. It is an honor to fight for this country, what we stand for and for you." I sat and watched the names of the dead roll every night after school praying I would never see his name. Add that life, southern and TExas to that and I cannot tell you the quandry that I find myself in. To say the things that are said in here sometimes or to agree means that my whole life was a lie. And yet at the same time, I have spent my whole life trying to help people live and not die. I have two sons that I would club over the head and take across the border,( tho my older did 5 years in the Army, Military police at thiat. ), before I would let them go to the middle east. But I have been a child of one over there and my heart goes out to them and I hate to down it so bad because they feel their fathers, brothers, sons are not being supported and the loss of life is for nothing. I have seen my father be spit on when he got off a plane in DC and he stood straight and kept walking and how it made me feel. So it is a quandry at times to be torn of what you know to be true in your heart, what you were taught and what your life was based on. So thanks for the comment. I think that is something personal about me that people should know and why I take the attitude of trying to not have one.

Bog, Thanks so much for your kind words. I enjoy you too.

There is much noble about what men give for their families when they go to war believing that they will do the dirty work so that others don't have to. The world is complicated and mysterious with many contradicting but reasonable points of view. Buddhists or people of other religions see things differently but the rule is clear.

The "Golden Rule" is the best and it is almost perfect except when applied to masochists. :D As you can see all rules are imperfect but I have mine. I call it, "The Rule of Love" and I have promoted this in chat rooms I moderated and in forums like this. It applies to all life really as a pacifistic approach.

When a hostile person would enter my chat room we employed the peace rule which is part of the rule of love. We would not fight. No matter what a person said we would not retaliate but only ask for them to be nice. If treating the unkind with kindness didn't work we would ignore the offensive comments or finally ask our members to just use their ignore button if necessary.

You see the rule of love is huge. It is really the same as the Golden Rule but consider what would be the most loving way to respond to anyone given any circumstance then do that. Jesus said that if a robber steals your wallet to offer him your cloak as well. To try and help the offender seems odd unless you realize one thing.

We are one. They aren't like your brothers, they are you. You could be that person doing whatever they are doing and what would you want others to do? Sometimes I might want you to slap me. :D But I draw the line at violence when dishing out the love. Get my drift? We should love everyone unconditionally. Jesus seemed to do that from what I have read. He blessed those whipping him to death for they knew not what they did.

Jesus wasn't so special. Not any more special than any man who laid his life down for the love of his fellow man. We do it all the time. You have to realize what wonderful creatures we really are instead of seeing the shameful side. You are all special.

Now let me tell you of the beauty I saw. This reminded me of the Master who made himself look like a diamond. Remember that buddha? I know why he did it! He saw the perfect diamond, the perfection of the universe and GOD and ourselves.

Skiing Saturday at Big Sky alone as usual. No one can keep up with me on ski's. (oops...that needs ego reduction) ah well.

I was on "Deep South" which is miles of cruising and not a soul but me on the huge run. Moving 50 mph in a crouch sidecutting my smart skis into the sunrise it hit me like a brick! The beauty was so intense it hurt. The million diamonds on a blue background of snow like looking at the Milky Way. I saw the diamonds. BOG

Early March. We have plans to make.
