Point One, regarding Bodhisattva Never Disparaging

The Record of the Orally Transmitted Teachings says: The word “Constantly” in the name [Constantly] Never Disparaging refers to the bodhisattva Never Disparaging who is constantly present in the three existences of past, present, and future. The name “Never 151Disparaging” refers to the three inherent potentials of the Buddha nature1 that is present in the minds of all living beings. The Buddha nature is the Dharma nature. And the Dharma nature is Myoho-renge-kyo.

Point Two, regarding the bodhisattva Gainer of Great Authority [to whom this chapter is addressed]

The Record of the Orally Transmitted Teachings says: The word “Gainer” stands for the manifested body, the word “Great” stands for the Dharma body, and the word “Authority” stands for the reward body.
Or again, we may say that the word “Gainer” stands for the truth of temporary existence, the word “Great” stands for the Middle Way, and the word “Authority” stands for the truth of non-substantiality.
The whole then represents the perfect unification of the three truths and the three bodies.

"Although I and my disciples may encounter various difficulties, if we do not harbour doubts in our hearts, we will as a matter of course attain Buddhahood. Do not have doubts simply because heaven does not lend you protection. Do not be discouraged because you do not enjoy an easy and secure existence in this life."

"We use our voices to refute the erroneous and reveal the true. When we speak in earnest, we can vanquish devilish functions. Our vibrant, invigorating voices can completely change others' hearts. The important thing is for us to share our convictions with honesty and courage. The voice of truth is the spark that awakens others. Young people have a special mission in this regards.

"Nichiren Daishonin writes: 'Slanderers are like barking foxes, but Nichiren's followers are like roaring lions' (WND-1, 997). He is calling on his disciples to speak out with the same spirit as he did. The united declarations of mentor and disciple are 'a lion's roar.'"

"All of our efforts are connected to the Gohonzon, to kosen-rufu, and to our practice of the Daishonin's Buddhism. Please have profound conviction that every effort you are making will turn into benefit.

"Second Soka Gakkai president Josei Toda declared: 'Didn't the Daishonin struggle his entire life? Doesn't he state in his writings: "Buddhism primarily concerns itself with victory or defeat" (WND-1, 835)? We have no choice, therefore, but to challenge ourselves.'

"Without challenging ourselves, we tend to grow lazy and complacent. When we try to overcome various hardships, we can do our human revolution. That's why we must continue challenging ourselves."

"Shakyamuni taught that the shallow is easy to embrace, but the profound is difficult. To discard the shallow and seek the profound is the way of a person of courage."

"We who believe in and chant the Mystic Law are ourselves the Treasure Tower. If we persevere in faith, we will attain a magnificent state of life endowed with the treasures of the universe."

"There is no retirement age in faith. There is no retiring from our mission. This is the way of life of genuine practitioners of the Daishonin’s Buddhism."

Point Three, regarding the Buddha Awesome Sound King

The Record of the Orally Transmitted Teachings says: The word “Awesome” refers to the element of form or body, and the word “Sound” refers to the element of mind. The word “King” refers to the nonduality of body and mind.
Now that we have entered the Latter Day of the Law, to chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo is to be an Awesome Sound King. The reason is that the word “Sound” stands for the daimoku, or titles, of all various provisional teachings, while the word “Awesome” stands for the five characters of the title [of the Lotus Sutra, Myoho-renge-kyo]. And the word “King” stands for the practitioners of the Lotus Sutra.
p.152The daimoku of the Lotus Sutra is like the roar of a lion, while the other sutras are like the cries of the other beasts. The Lotus Sutra is referred to as “king” because it is “king of the sutras” (chapter twenty-three, Medicine King).
Now when Nichiren and his followers chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, they become the Buddha Awesome Sound King.

"The first shi of the word shishi, or 'lion' [which means 'teacher'], is the Wonderful Law that is passed on by the teacher. The second shi [which means 'child'] is the Wonderful Law as it is received by the disciples. The 'roar' is the sound of the teacher and the disciples chanting in unison."

"In order to really experience the power of the Gohonzon, it is important for you to make your prayers specific. You might also try setting yourself a personal daimoku target each day. Your prayers to the Gohonzon will definitely be answered. When they are, you feel real joy and conviction, which in turn will further strengthen your faith. Even if your prayers aren’t answered immediately, please be assured that you are accumulating inconspicuous benefit, and that, with the passage of time, you will attain a life-state of complete fulfillment and satisfaction."

"Why were we born into this world?"

“...As indicated in the passage from the Lotus Sutra often quoted in Nichiren Daishonin’s writings, ‘living beings enjoy themselves at ease’ (LSOC16, 272), the purpose of our practice is to transform this life of pain and suffering into one of enjoyment and ease.”

"When we chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo to the Gohonzon—which is the embodiment of the life of Nichiren Daishonin, the Buddha of the Latter Day of the Law—our lives fuse with the great life-state of the Buddha [Nam-myoho-renge-kyo]. As a result, we can manifest the Buddhahood inherent within us.

“...That life-state of Buddhahood is characterised by the four virtues of eternity, happiness, true self, and purity. ‘Eternity’ means that the Buddhahood inherent within us is eternal and unchanging throughout the three existences of past, present and future. ‘Happiness’ is a state of ease and the absence of suffering. ‘True self’ is a strong life force that nothing can harm or destroy. ‘Purity’ refers to a life-state of supreme purity and integrity.”

"It essentially comes down to relationships between individuals. When we see each other as fellow human beings, we can find much common ground. The universal sufferings of birth, aging, sickness, and death are a source of concern to all thinking people. Studying and practising the Daishonin’s Buddhism enables us to converse with others heart-to-heart at the deepest level of life itself.

"...The important thing is to respect others, be honest and open with them, and try to understand them as fellow human beings. Therefore, our behaviour as human beings is important.

"Those who are able to cheerfully greet and speak to others can be called global citizens. When you greet or speak to someone in a pleasant, friendly manner, you can put them at ease and create an open and receptive atmosphere."
