“I am praying that, no matter how troubled the times may become, the Lotus Sutra and the ten demon daughters will protect all of you, praying as earnestly as though to produce fire from damp wood, or to obtain water from parched ground.”

“I hope that you will all become individuals 'who never give in to defeat,' and keep a positive attitude, treating any difficulties you come up against as a springboard for growth.

"The key to tapping the spirit of never being defeated is chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, which transforms all your problems into energy for moving forwards and helps you bring forth courage and wisdom.

“While chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, let’s advance cheerfully along the path of learning, challenge, and effort.”

-- TO MY FRIENDS --
Aiming towards next year,
which will mark the fifth anniversary of the completion of
the Hall of the Great Vow for Kosen-rufu,*
let’s march together to achieve the triumph
of the people!
Shoulder to shoulder with our fellow members
all around the world,
let’s strive to build the century of peace!

*”In two years, we will celebrate the fifth anniversary of the completion of the Hall of the Great Vow for Kosen-rufu. With Soka Gakkai Foundation Day, Nov. 18, 2018, as the next goal for the advance of the Soka family, let’s joyfully scale the summit of kosen-rufu through compassionate propagation, spreading the Mystic Law even more widely. Please promise with me to work hard over the next two years with our fellow members around the world to expand our network of Bodhisattvas of the Earth, and forge ahead with energy, wisdom and good cheer to make the triumph of mentor and disciple resound into the eternal future of the Latter Day of the Law.”

“This is what I have taught my disciples morning and evening, and yet they begin to harbour doubts and abandon their faith. Foolish men are likely to forget the promises they have made when the crucial moment comes.”

"Just chanting to the Gohonzon for one’s own benefit merely makes one a passive believer—someone who begs for blessings without putting the teachings into practice. The members of the Nichiren Shoshu priesthood and traditional lay groups had forgotten the spirit of sharing Nichiren Buddhism with others. They had completely lost sight of kosen-rufu.“
…Mr Makiguchi declared: ‘I believe that, by working for the happiness of our families and the welfare of society, we can contribute in part to the realisation of kosen-rufu.'[1]

This was his first public mention of kosen-rufu. It was a declaration that he would dedicate his life to that cause until it was achieved.

…In concluding his lecture at the organisation’s Fourth General Meeting general meeting in May 1942, Mr Makiguchi said: ‘I believe that since each of us shares this important mission, we must vow to work diligently to fulfil it, not for ourselves or for realising self-interested aims, but with the constant awareness that we are people of great good who have been chosen to undertake this task.’"[2]

"That is why the Great Teacher Miaolo stated, 'The stronger one's faith, the greater the protection of the gods.' So long as one maintains firm faith, one is certain to receive the great protection of the gods."

"Through 'devoting one’s life' (Jp. kimyo) to the Mystic Law, we become part of the life of the Buddha of the universe; our lives begin to shine as entities of the Mystic Law. Nichiren Daishonin teaches us this wonderful secret. The important thing, therefore, is that we centre our lives on the Law. If we make ourselves the centre, we will advance in the opposite direction from that of attaining Buddhahood.

"May you lead joyous lives! If your life is joyless, make it joyous! If you have no hope, create some! For the mind is free and untrammeled; it is filled with limitless possibilities. This is all the more true of you who embrace the Mystic Law, the Great Law of Freedom."

SGI Newsletter No. 8733, the above is an excerpt from SGI President Ikeda’s speech at the 49th Soka Gakkai Headquarters Leaders Meeting, held in conjunction with the 4th Tohoku General Meeting, on 18th May, 2005, originally from the SGI Newsletter No. 4051, reprinted on 12th March 2013

"Studying the Daishonin’s teachings is a signpost
which leads us on the path to happiness.
Whenever we encounter deadlock,
let’s earnestly reach out for the Daishonin’s writings!
Our diligent endeavour
in the two ways of practice and study
is vital in starting the drama of
changing our karma into our mission."

"In light of the Daishonin’s writings and the Lotus Sutra, it is a matter of course that we will encounter obstacles and devilish functions. It’s foolish to complain about minor things that happen or to let them disturb your faith.”

The Daishonin encourages,
“Ordinary people keep in mind the words
‘earnest resolve'
and thereby become Buddhas.”*
By chanting daimoku with earnest resolve
and taking decisive action,
let’s play out a great drama of our human revolution
with good cheer and in high spirits,
writing a new chronicle of our life!

Happy Thanksgiving to all chanting growers-present and future Bodhisatvas!!

I am so grateful and have the deepest thanks for my karma/mission to wake up again before my life is wasted thru my ignorance and dillution.

Thank you WH (the company I worked for the last 6 years) for discharging me which was devastating at the time, but thru earnest practice and study since then, I am back on my mission as a Buddha in the Latter day of the Law; practicing for oneself and others!!!

More Daimoku (Nam Myoho Renge Kyo) Mugi Wasshin!! (doubt-free faith)

"In this chapter Shakyamuni Buddha revealed the foremost point he wished to convey to us. The Buddha preached the Lotus Sutra over a period of eight years, and eight characters sum up the message that he has left behind for living beings in this later age, the Latter Day of the Law. It is in the passage that reads, 'Therefore, Universal Worthy, if you see a person who accepts and upholds this sutra, you should rise and greet him from afar, showing him the same respect you would a Buddha.'"

"There are various different paths
on the journey of life.
Instead of comparing ourselves with others
and worrying about what they are doing,
let’s take one step forwards on our own.
In our own unique way, at our own unique pace
let’s carry out our important missions in life!"
