Ceramic Metal Halide (CMH)

I was thinking, i have a 2 400W CMH bulbs coming in, but only one ballast. My area is only 3.5 feet x 3.5 feet x 6.5 feet. Should i go out and get a second ballastor just use the 1 bulb? and have a spare on hand. I also have a co2 tank, got it for my paintball gun a few years ago, so i wont be needing that anytime soon. If i have co2 running will the extra ballast be better to use then?

Well, I'm pretty new to the whole CMH thing... Starting to gather the information largely from this thread, but also with the help of some real cool dudes.

I already bought a 150w HPS security light and I see that the 150w are run of MH ballasts... I also bought a 100w MH security light because I was originally going to do a mixed spectrum of 150w HPS and 100w MH in my computer case grow box....

Anyway I'm definitely going to be putting a 100w CMH into the 100w MH security light I bought... Eventually when I have the funds I'll pick up a 150w MH ballast so I can run two cmh bulbs for a total of 250w....

BUT... What do you guys think of running that 150w HPS and a 100w CMH... Think that would still deliver some quality results? I guess that's all I can do anyway until I have money for the 150w MH ballast. What do you guys think?

edit: And do I need a special ballast to run these things? Or can I screw one these bulbs into the socket and fire it up? I haven't bought the ballast parts individually because I don't really know how to wire the stuff. So I've been buying security floods lights... Can these ballasts that come in them handle these cmh bulbs?

Tactical: Nice! Two chambers or are you using the 250 as a supplement?

Well my new Digital 600 wouldnt fire HPS so the guys at HTG let me trade that in for one of the "Coolstar" 400W HPS ballasts.

I told the folks at HTG about the new Phillips bulb as they were unaware of the technology, told them they should try to carry the bulb so we shall see.

Had a old sunmaster 250W HPS that didnt see much action so decided to upgrade it with CMH - it would work well as a starter for rooted clones now I think.

Where'd you find a 100w bulb? Near as I can tell ATS sells CMH in 40, 70, 150, 250, & 400.

The 4K is obviously the one we want.
Simba says to get the "protected" bulbs as they can explode towards the end of their lifespan. He says you need to have it behind good strong glass: (tempered like the stuff the hydro store sells for the MH hoods; not weak, thin stuff like the Hobby Lobby cool tubes we use for HPS)
He told me that the 50 to 150 watt sizes just don't have as much material in the construction of the arc tube as the 250 and 400 watt Retrowhites.

Simba, I recieved a 250hps recently from advancedtech and had a question.

What do you think about burn in for the CMH? Is it a good idea or wasted effort?

It better exist because they say mine should get here on the fourth.
The li'l ones run on pulse start metal halide ballasts. Which, as I understand it, is almost exactly how the old-fashioned magnetic ones with an "ignitor" work. I've got a lamp/hood/ballast lined up for it. Can't wait.

Bonsai,

Where'd you find it? I keep looking over the site and see no mention of 100. I see 39, 70 and 150 but no 100.

Not trying to bust your balls, just don't want to look stupid in another thread when I proclaim, "No such thing."
