Ceramic Metal Halide (CMH)

I have read that Silica is a good additive when using CMH. Does anyone know where you can get Silica to use in Soil, is it something that would only be available in a hydro store?

Is it really that much of a benefit to use it?

simba seems to be the only one recommending it but who knows.. he seems to know everything about these CMH so I would say the 20$ for silica is a sound investment .. he mentioned silica blast so that may be a good place to start

Hey with that Cap HLC-3 High Temp. Shut-Down.. how does that plug in? I have a 220v 4 light controller and i plug my 4 ballst into this. All the lights are 220v so how would I use that high temp shut down? I'd like to run all 4 lights off it if possible

The model listed is 120 only. I am not aware of a 220V equivalent. Sorry

simba told me about silica but I had heard about it earlier from the plant service lady that takes care of the plants where I worked. She said people there were going nuts over Pro-Tekt, a silicone based supplement. I picked it up and have used it since at 2 ml/gal.

This is my third grow and I am finally starting to acquire and keep moms. I had vegged much longer in the past, used soil, and a 600 W hps. I really think I am seeing better development of trichs and the flowers but the strains are all first time too. I am sold on CMH from what I can see. I'll be curious to see how the smoke is!!

honestly i haven't heard any thing good or bad about agro.. id like to know who actually makes the core..all these Ballast names for horti are just re branding tdc or someone else.. IMPHO they should Release the Orig ballast MFR..
its the same with life-light they say cmh but dont say part numbers cause they ripin ya off..

If i could find a sheet metal shop willing to make some cases for us..
we would bring an entire ballast case/kit for CMEMORY>>
shops could sell a hps 400 ballast for even 100 and still make money (with a case) but its charge what the market can bear.. not fair market cost or charge what the market can afford.. its bear wich means charge what they are willing to come up with..
its not the stores fault they should make a good Profit margin but there distributors rip them off to.. a dist should only get max 25% of the product cost to them.. but most are getting 50%+ not right..
the money train has gone whatever they call it.. cost sprial up for no reason..
side note dived the Profits from exon to how many gallons gas they moved and you see the $1.00 extra for gas we been paying for the last year went to there pockets.

I hear you man. When i was shopping around for my equipment you would be amazed at how much time i spent on the internet looking for the cheapest price. So many sites were gouging the customers, i found an awesome site in the states that pricematched everything i showed them. I brought down the price on the vortex 6" fan from their list of 189 to 139 bucks. In canada and many other sites in the states wanted in upwards of 189 to even 300 bucks for the same fan. I was also almost ready to order a lumatek system 400w when i came across this thread, and after reading more and more and started shopping around i realized i could get a big vortex, 2 hid systems for the price of a lumatek in canada.
I had a price set for 120 and i wanted 2 hid light systems, one smaller mh, and a 400 hps because i seen these new chm and i had to have one. I told myself not a penny over 120 and ended up getting 175mh with bulb for 55 shipped and a 400 hps for 60 shipped no bulb, but the cmh is getting ordered in 3 weeks

there is a nice 400 hps for sale on ebay ending in 2 hours. id be bidding but i already have one lol. This may be a good one for some of you on here

vin rx-7 is a bulb type.. RX7 is the connectors.. its for the Micro Grower in a Flood lamp fixture..

as far as medium bulb ones (and these are the ones we recommend cause the Internal protection on protected versions)

can burn any way you want.. the only ones that are burning specific are the HPS RETRO WHites.. .250,400 on adv tech site if it doesn't have option for horizontal or vertical. it is a universal burning lamp..

as far as silica google silica and plant botany.. youll see many links.. SIlica is required for Cell Division and thats how things grow by dividing ..

Thanks, it looks like they have a normal greenhouse in my area that sells the Pro-Tekt product.

Do you do 2ml a gallon every watering?

Yes, I do with every feeding. Be careful not to use too much! I was advised to be careful and then once I started talking with simba, he said the same, don't use too much silica

depending on who makes the silica it can be from .10ml per liter to 1ml per liter.. obv the .10ml per liter stuf is concentrated...
id personally start at .05ml per liter,, ;

So on the reccomendations from simba I went a head and bought some silica blast. I test dif. ferts on my moms. I added a half a tsp/gal to both my moms along with 1 tsp of grow big. AND,,,, I can not believe the growth spurt the plants are going through. I mean it's like I gave them some steroids or something. It kind of sucks because now I have to train them some more due to them growing so damn much in 3 days. Folks I have been growing in and out for over 20 years now. I have tried so many dif. snake oils and after many years I have found that the basics yield me the biggest and best buds. When you start adding all the crap that one can get these days, it either decreases yield or makes the plant taste like shit. Pick up a mag. called "maximum yield" and check out all the crap one can buy. But folks, the short term effects of the stuff is amazing. I will be applying this stuff to my clones that have been vegging for 5 days in 2 and will report back. This stuff rocks! Thanks simba.
Now if I could only get my cmh to work.

I have a few plants 12 days into flower under a 400 cmh. I have no complaints so far.

It's a new strain to me, so I can't say for sure they grew better under the cmh then another bulb, but I was certainly pleased with the short internodes, quick root growth, and overall bushy stocky growth of the plants this run.

I second the silca also.. I used Gen. Hydros rare earth which is a silicon, humate, mineral supplement in my coco organic mix this run. It's hard to say whether it was the new light, or the silica but I noticed extremely solid stem/trunk growth, and much stronger branches overall. All the better at holding up my big juicy buds come late flower I say
