250/400w CMH help

250/400w CMH help

are azeo and simba is it okay if i run something by you guys to get your feedback since its obvious you know these CMH bulbs inside and out. im able to pickup a HD wardrobe that I plan on converting into a dual scrog or scrog/sog cabinet. it measures 72" high by 48" wide and 20" deep. its split directly down the middle by a partition, and it has about a 10" space sectioned off all the way across the top, leaving as is 2 chambers roughly about 60x24x20 inches. I was planning on running 250w HPS bulbs but i dont want to short myself. I currently have a 150w hps inside a cab measuring 36x24x20 being cooled by 50cfm and ive noticed i could have another 150w in the space no problem with the same amout of cooling. with this new box i was originally lookin into get a 190cfm van for dual 250w hps. to the questions... ive seen earlier in this thread it was said that with CMHs they run cooler and your able to have them closer to the plant canopy, do you know how much cooler a 400w CMH runs compared to a 400w HPS? the reason i ask about 400s in that space is b/c htgsupple sells a tent thats 36x30x70 and say a 400w would run in the space along with 250w. if i go dual 400w do you think 340cfm would be enough ventilation thru the box along with computer fans blowing on the bulbs to keep temps manageable? or would i be better of goin with the orginal plan and just switch out a 250w hps for a 250w CMH? sorry its kind of long but thats for the help.

I can tell you from my experience that my ambient room temp with a open-air reflector with a regular MH was about 5-10 degrees warmer than with the CMH and I can keep the plants quite a bit closer by about half a foot or so. Not to mention the plants look so much more healthy.

2 x 400w CMH setup.

HTG DIY ballast/Maxwing reflector = $270 shipped
CMH Bulb x 2 = $116 shipped

I ran wire about 8-10 feet to ballasts that are located on a ledge. I had to drill my own connector plate out of the back of an electrical box. You can see it as the metal square on the light.

Also I am not using any ventilation for the lights, and they get hot on the top to the touch but don't heat up the room that much.

Yes, or at the very least a point of no worthy return for the heartache/expense. But, I allways say load it up!

As long as you can control temps and vent properly, you're plants will show you how much is too much, by showing 'bleach' spots. (Atleast that's how I decided to max my lights out)

i originally was just gonna do CFL for my 1st time, then it was 1 150W HPS w/ CFL, then it was 1 250W HPS w/ CFL, then it was just 250W HPS, NOW and i'm pretty settled on just 1 250W CMH throughout veg and flowering....only thing holding me back from just getting is, if CMH is so much better, as charts show, why is everyone still on HPS.
azero u have any pics of your grows....?u are the 1 which first caught my attention on these CMH.....simba's pics show some sick turquoise buds. i just wanna do everything right. that's why i'm researching since 2005. but now researching seems to have taken over my life, if i'm not working, taking care of house and kid or training (muay tai kickboxing), then i'm researching..... and once i get a grow under my belt i'll b silly. i'm a firm believer in, anything worth doing is worth overdoing. that's why i'm about 10 grand deep in my saltwater aquarium...parden my ranting, i'm 8 deep in a 12 pack of heineken lites. i can't burn due to upcoming work physical and drug screen, last time was x mas nite....

Some people hate change. The metric system is infinately better than the nonsense of inches, feet and yards. Yet, for the most part it took economic neccessity to force the change. Because the US is more economically isolated it can afford to stick by obsolete insanity.

Waiting for these to come out in a 1k size, till then I'm stuck with HPS. If anyone finds these for sale in a 1k size, please post it so we'll know they hit the market.

Just so you dont hold your breath. Phillips has patents on 600 and 1000W models, but I read they arn't expected to release them in full production for at *least* 10-12 more months

Vertical/Tree style with 4x400w would be killer!!! These are awsome for tree/vertical grows as you can run a little tighter configuration than with the HPS or Halide bulbs.

lolol, I'm in the same boat, I've changed lighting quite a few times, too

I think cmh will catch on, we'll just be early adopters and reap benefits sooner.

freezerbou u use a HTG replacement ballast? 250 lamp?

No. I went here http://www.businesslights.com/hps-ballast-kits-c-190.html
Very happy transaction, good price, stealth delivery. The core, cap and ignitor came pre-wired!

No experiance with HTG but I see they include a socket with the ballast. I'll guess the core is unwired but, only because the webpage has the finest wiring instructions I've ever seen.

Yeah Ive changed my lighting scheme several times too! I was gonna orignally go all T5 and get the New Wave T5 8bulb 4ft set up, then decided on a digital ballast, now im going with a 250HPS magnetic ballast(will use a CMH bulb my next grow for sure!) supplemented with 4 24w T5 HO strips in some sort of tent(been looking a the Darkroom by Secret Jardin)
