Ceramic Metal Halide (CMH)

I have no problem with
Ill go a step further. Here's a challenge for anyone on planet Earth, if you can come up with a lamp/ballast technology different than what DNA is offering at a better price with better quality and a better spectrum, Ill eat my shorts and ill buy your product.
Let me make it simple for you:
Hps
Mh
Induction
Led
Plasma
Pretty sure that covers it,
DNA will put it to the test in front of the world with machines that give us facts not opinions like micro mole quantum meters and spectrometers for par/ppf. Lets see who steps up and lets see who's eating who's shorts.
Not including what they have, which btw they have more things a brewin in immediate near future that are bad ass and new technology.
well maybe you can also ask DNA to go the extra required first mile and do an investment in an Ulbricht sphere and start specifying the ppf of their lamps instead of the ppfd at a certain distance, like the chinese LED manufacturers do.

Also it seems like they sell the unprotected CMH 315 only, be advised that you can only use this in a closed fixture, and is extremely dangerous to use in an open fixture.

I personally think there are a lot of light solutions for many different environments. I would not go as far as to eat my shorts though ;)

$500 for a 315W light is still a lot of money I think. For around that price you can also buy a 1000W professional HPS system at almost 4 times the output of the CMH @ 115%. For the cost of 4 x CMH I can even throw in an additional plasma light. Yes, there are (fortunately) many choices :)

Or at least go to a university and have them do an independent study like Cycloptics.

Yes, very very bad idea!!

The 315 does have it's place, and the spectrum of the Agro does work very well.
If the Gavita 1k DE would have fitted in my spot, I would have gone in that direction possibly.
Ya, not cheap.

yep, LED has its place too, so though you could argue what the best lamp is, you should argue what is the best lamp for the specific environment and space.

I found another forum with a guy named noone88 that says the 860 only runs correctly on hps with his red line. Fonz, you got an honorable mention. Wasn't sure if it was cool if i posted the link.

Who decides what is the first step? Of course as DNA moves there efforts further into this newer technology they will provide "ulbritch"sphere ppf value of each lamp. As for now they provide true and accurate ppf (d) from grow distances which is the most true way to see what your plants are receiving in just that ppf.

Why the fuck would Philips say to use an M47 ballast if it doesn't work?

Unbelievable horse shit! Maybe Philips will buy my brand new M47 ballast off of me now? They sure do have shit customer service. It's been 4 weeks and still no word back from Philips as to what the problem is. WTF

Guess I will just stick to the 315's Agro, better spectrum anyway supposedly. Lol

Seriously, how do they get away with telling people the wrong ballast to use. Seems like this would be causing a major stir by now.

Really strange!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to those posting their work. I have some questions to add to the discussion:

The replacement capacitor for HPS ballasts is 26uf/540v, while the one for MH is 24uf/480v. Maybe the 860CDM needs the larger capacitor?

Would it be better to disconnect the HPS ignitor for this application? And what about the switchable ballasts? Mine have one on capacitor for both sides, and the switch is just for the ignitor (CAP ballasts, not sure on the capacitor specs). So why are the only two reports so far that the 860 only works in HPS mode? Is the ignitor really required to start it? Or do those ballasts run a different capacitor setup?

I moved all plants, changed the bulb and mounted 315w/930

Setting the timer to 12/12, i'll start the bloom.

Finger crossed

Yea I ran the 860 philips for one full cycle. It only starts reliably on HPS setting (sunlight supply redline ballast). It sometimes runs on the MH setting.

I'll post more on the other forum, but I would not grow any strain that is unstable with the 860 CDM. It made my OGR's fire alien do some weird stuff (stacking thin calyxes not caused by heat stress).

this was not clear enough, sorry m8s
PLZ UPDATE THE THREAD TITLE
Thanks a lot
p
:tiphat:

While there are a bunch of new lamps out, they are all still in the CMH family. What is it that you find confusing about the thread title?

Under 96 watts :) sunblaster T5 Ho's second picture 1 plant

And your point is what?
That you can grow plants?
Look it is well known that you are for some ridiculous reason adversarial to CMH lamps for growing. So I guess you are trying to show that your t5 grow is superior to cmh. Well your pic doesn't prove anything other than you need to feed them more N and possibly iron as they are showing very light coloring and N deficiency is on its way.

Go play with your t5's and hps somewhere that its desired.

I know something else you can do with your lamps but fear you would enjoy it too much.

Namaste
