I would feel very safe in the assumption that this is just a larger version of what has already been brought to market. So, no to the electronic ballasts that are not specifically tuned for CMH or a square wave form output at 144hz-166hz or so........
The extremely high kHz/frequency and standard waveform output of most electronics will cause resonance and failure of the arc tube.
If your interest is high in this bulb and electronics, Advanced Nutrients BadAss ballasts are advertised as a low (around 144hz or so) square wave form output digital/electronic and I would not personally be afraid to try it. Please do not interpret this as me suggesting you do!!!!! However, I might some day........
I looked at the link (in english) and the euro designs are hard for me to decipher specs on without a better pic. The question is whether or not it is a halide or hps ballast.....? There are CMH bulbs that will work with each. So, my answer is that I don't know.... Sorry!
Thanks Anti. Do you have to order the 400W lamp as a vertical or horizontal config? Sounds like you are saying it is vertical OR horizontal, rather than vertical AND horizontal
Azeo - my best guess is the idea of running 12 hours on then about 5.5 hours off.... then 1 hour on... then 5.5 hours off again... then repeat. Adding a 1 hour "on" during the 12 hours off.
It will hypothetically keep your plants happily vegging while cutting 5-11 hours off your vegging light bill.
If that's not what he means, I have no idea.
I have never successfully tested this method myself and hold no opinion.
Thanks. Just found the thread. Not for me. My initial thought is all the extra strikes the arc tubes would take. Talk about investing in starters and bulbs..... Just my quick thoughts though. Hope those that do it have good results.
Someone pointed out that the 830W could be run in a Luxor hood, with or without the glass. I'm not cooling the hoods. I just don't see how a vertical lamp in an overhead application would be remotely efficient.
Yep. 12/1 = florist's Gas Lantern Routine. 12 on, 5.5 off, 1 on, 5.5 off, Repeat.
My little 12/12 closet at late blooming was;
- 2 FLC125W / 64K in side hung reflectors
- 70 W Vertical HPS kicker between
- 2 root pruning pots made from plastic open weave utility basket lined with septic leach line root barrier cloth.
6qt. soil, Organic.
The HPS failed and am looking to upgrade. 175 CMH is target.
Ultimate = Warmer K tubes, 4 corner T8s or PL-Ls to replace the 125, with one PL-L center standing below CMH.
Light routine will see the CMH on for 10 of the 12 on hours. Remainder of on time will be handled by the florescents.
Object is to increase capacity to 4 pruning pots, or more likely 2 pots, plus 2 or three hydro stations. Maybe just 4 - 6 hydro, I got enough odd parts. 12/1 may let me maintain 6 to flower with a little training.
Summer harvest left me with a double handful of ripe seedy non-hermy sativa goodness. 12/1 will let me quickly determine sex and vigor of multiple starts.
Ballast Ordered - Check
Socket Ordered - Check
Hood - Have it - Check
Bulb - Still deciding.... The standard 930 or the Agro???
BTW - Rives has been extremely helpful with info and links on this. Just thought I would mention it in the community. Not only a skilled individual when building DIY, but willing to share tech info and research. Many thanks!
