Not that in really that paranoid(or maybe i am) but, which service provider do you think has the best privacy policy? I heard something about nextel a while back but not 100% sure. Im sure the police cant just listen to your phone calls or have the man power to listen to everyones. Im just curious

Hi,

The best privacy policy is getting a disposable pre-payment SIM card, not linked to your name, and never using names on the phone.

Then, depending on the nature of your activities, dump and buy a new SIM card as regularly as necessary.

That's what anyone who's serious about not getting caught does.

what about the 'gps' tracking and stuff on phones.. how do those play into prepaid phones and all? can't they track your phone.. like see where you are located?

Whodi, how would they know it was your phone, unless someone gave them the number?

Also, they can and do track phones of those under investigation, and also retrospectively, so turn it off during a 'meet'/deal, as if busted, they can use the phone location evidence in court to prove you were there.

Not really GPS tracking unless the phone is equipped with a receiver. They can use the triangulation method by using cell phone towers but it only gives them a general area.

hey ya'll this is a good topic,

to my knowledge text is never a good option because its just like e-mail and it probably gets backed up on a server somewhere.

the other thing to take into account is in general no priors = no wires.

mostly that is just to help soothe the paranoia thing, which honestly, is like praying for something you don't want to happen. that is, if you worry that it will, it will probably will. if you are positive that it will go smoothe...it probably will.

dunno, just my xp.

much love.

thats a nice little thought.............if you're more concerned with avoiding paranoia than staying out of jail.

this is a great thread. good stuff to remind people to stay on their toes, cause once you go flat footed its only a matter of time til you get burned.

Regular cell phones have backup batteries in them so whenever you take the battery out they can still record your conversations. Prepaids nowadays are getting gps put in them, some of the older models dont have it yet. Cell phones are just a microphone and speaker. Who knows who is really listening on the other end? I've heard buzzing and clicks and all sorts of weird ambient noises that shouldn't be there. If you get a smart phone and use that then good luck to you. All regular cell phones have gps in them now. Best way to go is no cell phone and talk to people in person in whispers if it calls for that. All sorts of bugs and listening devices can be planted. So if you're that big time there is no being too safe. Or just have the conversation on paper and burn it or liquify it.

Cell phones are not secure at all even if they are turned off. As long as the battery is inside the phone they can turn it on!. About a year ago a case went to the supreme court where some mob guys were caught b/c LEO was able to turn on their cellphone mics and record whatever they could hear. There is no presumption of security with cellphone signals! They can catch and record whatever they want whenever.

No as far as the best carrier...That would have to be Quest...They fought they whole government wire taping shit!

WHATEVER YOU DO DONT USE AN IPHONE THEY CAN TRACK THAT SHIT WITH FREE WEB APPS!

Actually i have read that you need not only turn it off to prevent sending a tracking (gps, or tower relay) signal, but remove the battery, AND sim card to no be traceable.

Ok with these things in mind, the best thing to do is leave your mobile at home if you're going out to a 'meet'.

Alot of top drug dealers use international sim cards, in my area they use French sims. It is very difficult to get a warrent to listen in to your calls with these international providers.

Bingo. Cell phones have the same rights of privacy as a radio station's broadcast. None. Once you send that signal out into the ether, it's fair game to anyone that want's to listen.

Nope. Disposable phones aka 'burners' can be tracked and tapped. If you really think there listening in on your phone conversations the best way to go is to stop talking on the phone all together.

Any cell phone signal can be intercepted, there is no expectation of privacy...Just like the garbage you leave at your curb...

LEO turning on the photo and mic and having them sent without your knowledge...that i would question holding up in court without a warrant, and is scary as hell...

yes in the good old days it was enough to remove the cell phone battery, but now i hear things are different and you actually have to store your phone in a lead box if u don't want them to be able to access it, turn it on, take pics and listen in. was wondering about offering some kind of cell wave proof box, lol.

a prepaid has the advantage that its not connected to your name, but if it should come under investigation they can find you easy. best to keep your cell for normal use only and forget having interesting discussions on it. also no discussions with the phone near by if you have reason to be totally paranoid :)

good thread, maybe someone even knows which models don't have gps? i have a real old banger of a cell.

Already mentioned but cell phones have a battery backup built in them also. Not sure if it is powerful enough to run phone without any battery in it although rumor has it you can. Here are some of the hidden features on your cell phone.

There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a lifesaver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it:

1. The emergency number worldwide for mobile networks is 112.

If you find yourself out of coverage area of your mobile network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked.

2. Have you locked your keys in the car? Does your car have remote keys? This may come in handy some day, and it's a good reason to own a cell phone:

If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk). Note: It works fine! I've tried it and it unlocked my car over a cell phone!

3. Hidden battery power

Imagine your cell battery is very low, you are expecting an important call, and you don't have a charger. Nokia phones come with a reserve battery. To activate, press the keys *3370#. Your cell will restart with this reserve and the phone will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your cell next time.

4. How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?

To check your mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: *#06#. A 15-digit code will appear on the screen. Please take note that this procedure works so far only with Nokia phones. But all mobile phones have an International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) which is a number unique to every GSM and UMTS mobile phone. It is usually found printed on or underneath the phone's battery.

This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. If your phone is stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody did this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.
