I don't think the means to track every bill are as monumental as some may think. If they're just tracking serial numbers then it's not really that much data, it's all simple text. What would they really need to record to do so?

1. Date + Time
2. GPS coordinates
3. Your SSN or other identifying code
4. A code identifying the other party
5. The bill's serial number

Credit card data is practically this detailed already.

Hmn,point to point tracking is possible.

Business would love it they would know their exact customer demographics. My ex would know how much I dropped in the strip bar.

I expect to see expiration dates on each dollar soon.

Possible. If that happens then todays currency may become worth more than it's face value if it's less traceable than future currency. Stack up as much cash as you can now! Oh wait, that's what I'm already trying to do...

I use to work on bill changers. The bills are marked with magnetic ink along the bottom quarter of the face side of the bill. As a bill passes through the magnetic reader at known speed it reads the ink kinda like a telegraph. We had a guy making $1.00 look like $5.00 by using an exacto knife and tape to move the magnetic dots.
