Yes, that should work. I would think the most stealth way for a lightproof passive intake would be what I suggested, a darkroom louver. If it were me I'd probably get at least an 8x8 louver, that way you'd have plenty and if it ever got too hot in there you could upgrade to a 6in fan (which would be more than double the surface area of your 4in).

Building a light trap like Lucid mentioned would definitely be cheaper than a louver, and you could probably make it very stealth. You can check the link I gave above to get an idea of prices and then you can decide what you want to do. Good luck!

Did we ask if he has an AC vent in the ceiling? Maybe he could cap off this AC vent & use the existing hole to exhaust with a proper fan & scrubber. Then draw air from the window or door. Access to the attic is needed.

EZ..... There isnt a Ac vent installed in the ceiling of the room, just a light... Ive been thinking about taking it out, and installing a vent fan....But my breaker access is in the basement of the landlady's.

Wow this is prolly the toughest hurdle ive come across

im going to try to get some pic up tonight and describe what i have planned

Shoot!, That would keep from cutting any holes. I'd go with these guys advice. Draw air from under /thru the door. If at all possible exhaust thru the window with a proper scrubber & fan. Dopest's Stanley blower thread might have some insight for You. Give him your room size & what type of lighting You plan. Now the main breaker being in thru Land Lady poses even more of a challenge. Do you pay your own electric bill or do you go thru her? You may be limited on how much fan & Lighting . Is there a standard 2 receptacle plug in?

hello,

Stanky allow me to borrow this thread for a little bit. I plan to make a 1.9 x 1.65 x 2.9ft flower chamber, with 150hps in it. The bulb will be aircooled with air about 70F. Is it worth cooling it at all? I´m thinking about passive intake too, because like Stanky, i cant get fresh outdoor air in my box. Will i have heat problems??

be good,

P.

this is just my :2cents: i noticed someone mentions the louvers...do not..and i repeat DO NOT waste your money on the midget ones...the 4" circle round ones...they don't even block out 400 hps light...i have used both the expensive plastic 8" square ones (the fucking bomb!) and the circle ones...def. spend the extra money if you want TRUE DARKroom....

EDIT: you can get darkroom vents locally...IF you wanna pay out the ass...

IMHO, cooling any light is worth the effort, particularly in a small area.

of course you can...just like you can make a reflector buy one, make a cool tube buy one, you can make anything you want... effectiveness...easyness... TIME... keep all that into consideration... is all...

The problem with cutting holes in walls is that if your landlord finds it, it could be the difference between them telling you to pull the thing down and move out and ringing the cops. Landlords don't really like people damaging there property, and fair enough.
That's why i suggested getting another door and putting a passive intake vent and lock in it. That way no one can get in but you. And your landlord ain't gonna nark just cos of a locked door. Not straight away, anyway.
Same with the window, that way you can put it back to how it was before and no questions asked. If you put a bathroom vent in the window a little fan noise isn't gonna matter as that's what the do anyway, extract steam and heat out of your bathroom via a fan.

I agree with Grownz! Get another door to vent before cutting holes in the walls or ceiling. If the landlord finds out ,she "may" be more understanding if there are no holes in her property. You can quickly swap it out with the original. Sorry, I don't have a pict of my DIY lighttraps. Check out all the cabs folks use here lots of picts & ideas there.
