Cannabutter In 7 Easy Steps!

L

LolaGal

OK, I remelted my budder, added 2 more ounces of trim and popcorn, cooked it down again and now it is cooling.

Seems as if every time I melt the butter, I get about 1/2 of it back. Is this common?

Show ya a pic when it sets up!

heya lolagal,
i find the butter stays in the trim, make sure you squeeze it good. the first time it loses milk fat, but remelting it...

you mentioned you added a few ounces of alcohol - this would lower the temp, at least until it is boiled off. keeping the temp at boiling for a significant amount of time is might help with the strength.

good look, and nice looking butter!

thanks!

I thought it was supposed to get hot, but not boil! Every time it started to bubble, I stirred it.

cooked for 2 hours first time, one hours second time.

you need some solid time to "activate" the thc. I go for at least 5 hours, sometimes overnight. you can see the thc mg/gram rise and drop over time for different temperatures in this chart here

Cannabutter: a second perspective...

Cannabutter: a second perspective...

Been doing it for a little while now, new to the site. Here is my method:
1. Put 4 sticks (more or less) melted butter in a crock pot.
2. Melt until the milk fat rises to the top.
3. Spoon off as much as you can, and then use ice in a baggie to get the rest. Put ice in a little sandwich baggie and dip it into the butter- the milk fat will solidify on the baggie and you wipe it off with a paper towel. *Doing this makes the butter last longer without getting that wonderful "sour garlic" spoil smell we all love.*
4. Add to butter, 4 oz (more or less) sweet leaf that has been in a food processor.
5. Get it hot enough till you see bubbles (190 on my thermometer.) This step happened by accident, as I forgot to check (figures) and it was bubbling @ 190.
6. Keep it around 150-170 for 3-8 hours- I like 8 personally.
7. Strain through doubled up cheesecloth- squeeze all the goodness out of there and store in the freezer for much longer (since you removed the milk fat.)

Anyways, this concludes my first post. I thank you :D

Butter Temp

Butter Temp

Some argue lower temps don't activate the CBN/THC. If you can, experiment and cook a batch of yummies with the butter as it is, and then reheat another batch's butter to 190ish before you bake with it; see what it does, I would be very interested to hear your results.

i have just been eating it on a cracker so far.

I was hoping to get some made that would lay me down!

So far, I seem to be a bad budder maker, or maybe my blood levels of THC are so high all the time that budder doesn't affect me?

I get a little giggly, and sorta sleepy, but not as strong as smoking so far.

I must be a bad budder maker!

The difference in the first batch and the second time I cooked the first batch does not seem to be that great. Maybe a little stronger second time I cooked it.

The second time I cooked it, it seemed the water was much, much darker than the first time I did it.

Interesting chart Ipsissimus.
I have made butter in many occasions, and had a few people try my fudge, cookies, and brownies made by it, and they all got pretty damn high from it.
I only let mine boil long enough to melt the butter, which is about 2 minutes, then I'd simmer for 4-5 hours.

I did not have to boil it for a long time to "activate" anything...

I have friends that say they only simmer their trim/buds for about 1-2 hours max, and they seem to get pretty high from their butter.
So you really do not have to boil it to get potency, the THC is already active...
Not saying your advice is wrong, just saying I know it is more than potent the way I make mine.

For example, I gave a guy that is a casual smoker 1/2 a piece of fudge, that was about 6 grams of fudge, he ate that and after about 45 minutes he came to me and asked what I put in it, he thought I laced it with something.
He then asked if he was going to have to be taken to a loony bin, lol
Told me he went home and sat in his room for hours, with the door locked, lol
He had to put his dog out because he was afraid it was going to eat him...

I have had others try my fudge & say it was so potent that they would not eat it ever again, lol

Lola, the high you get from ingesting canna goodies is not really like the high you get when smoking, it is more of a heady high, even if the majority of the trim/buds are indica.
If you ingest too much potent canna goodies you will begin to feel a bit of anxiety/paranoia, so try not to ever overdo it.
There are heavy indica like affects after you go to sleep though, good butter will have you sleeping like a baby, and you will wake up still high/sleepy feeling.

If you guys like I can post up exactly how I make my butter, and I promise you it will have you feeling it & then some, as long as you are working with trim from a fairly potent plant.

You're not a bad butter maker :) but I think the key is the medicine you put in there. I put in full buds that had PM on them sice I didn't want to smoke it. Alltogether, I used nearly 4 oz of pure sweet leaf and buds, Oz a stick, etc...

Don't use fan leaves or males. You can, but compared to sweet leaf... well there is no comparison :)

Ok, first time I cooked it I put in 2 oz of good bud, ground in grinder to 1 lb. of butter.

Then to make it stonger, today i remelted it and put in a couple ounces of popcorn bud, and sweet leaf trim.

I went and skimmed my remelted 2 x budder a while ago, scraped the dark veggy bottoms, put it in a new container, melted it again in the microwavel. I put the veggy part on a triscit and put some strawberry jam on there to cover the taste. yuk.

I think it has me tore up pretty good. My refined budder is looking good, but still looks like lime sherbet.

i think i may sleep good though, that is the main thingl.

seems i have a etxra L or 2 ... heehee.

I think what may have happened with the first batch is the alcohol absorbed alot of the THC and was poured out with the water.

could be grandma!

I ain't checked on the budder this morning. Think I'll go see how she looks.

I may have messed it up, but maybe I will get it right soon. I keep remelting the budder, and scraping the bottom, now it's finished!

Hi Lola !
Something about the butter and amount returned. I wonder if the quality of butter might make a difference. I used Butter but, the store brand. I think it contains far more water than the more expensive stuff. I used two sticks and got about half a stick in return.

My second batch, if you read above, I made a mess of it.
It didn't turn completely solid after 24 hours in the fridge.
I decided to try a heaping table spoon of the stuff and see how potent it was.
I made a bowl of Mac&Cheese, stirred it in and ate it.
I didn't feel much, if anything so I concluded that it must be garbage.
Being the pack-rat that I am, I couldn't see throwing it away. I figured it was at least butter and could be used. Last night I was making some hash browns and figured, what the hell I'll use that butter in the frying pan along with the other pads of butter.

Boy! was that a mistake ;>}

I'd say there was about 5-6 table spoon worth and it sent me reeling.
Last time I was that high was at a Clapton concert !

maybe I should just eat a big wad of this stuff and see what happens.

A tablespoon has me typing pretty badly (see above post last nite).

I wanna get high on budder and go to an amusement park.... LOL what fun that would be!

Anybody wanna meet up at 6 Flags one day? :)

oh forgot, Ppassion for mary jane, please give me your redcipe.

Just getting around to checking the thread, I am really tired right now, so I will come back tomorrow and type it up, it actually is similar to the recipe on the first page here, only I use more trim/buds per lb of butter, and I squeeze the trim/buds till I get as much butter as possible out of them.

Let me get some sleep & I'll come back and type that up for you Lola.

Oh yea, I'd not eat a huge chunk of butter alone, you just may get too high, and yes that is possible when ingesting, lol

ooops, I just swallowed a big chunk of cold budder with a swig of Pepsi a while ago. gettin sleepy nitey nite!

Thanks PFMJ! appreciate it. see ya tomorrow!

Ruttt Roh, lol
Hope you did not get too trippy from it, I am sure you slept like a baby!

For my cannabutter I use a similar method as mentioned on the first page here.
I'll mention a few things first, you can use trim, which for me is lower/immature buds, and fan leaves if they have a bit of trichs on them, or you can use just straight dank buds, I prefer to smoke that myself.
Cooking time varies from 2-5 hours, cook it for 2 hours if you want it a tad less weed/green tasting, cook it 5 hours and it will be a tad more potent in my experience, but it will be a tad more weed/green tasting, which for me is fine if used for brownies, cookies, or fudge.
------------------------------------
I get a 2 quart pot, fill it half way with water, bring water to a rolling boil.

Add 6 sticks of butter, unsalted of course, although once I had to get salted & it worked just as well IMO.

Once the butter has melted add in your trim/buds till you fill the pot half way, if you want the butter really potent you can add 3/4 a pots worth of trim, if you do that add 2 extra sticks of butter.

Reduce heat to med-low and simmer the pot for 2-5 hours, make sure to stir it every half hour or so.
I use a lid on top mine while simmering it, and remove the lid during the last hour or so of simmering.

After you are done simmering let the stuff cool a tad, but not too much because if you do the butter will be harder to remove from the trim.

Use either cheese cloth, or a fine metal strainer, I used to see what is called a splatter screen to drain mine through, but that can get messy if you are not straining the stuff into a big enough pot, mainly because if you pour the stuff out too fast it will run off the edges of the screen.

After pouring off the butter/water you will want to take small handfuls of the trim, and squeeze it really good, through the strainer of course, careful though that stuff stays hot for a while.

After you are done doing that you can put it into the fridge overnight to cool so the butter & water separate.
One thing I did that most do not do, is strain the stuff a few times before putting it in the fridge, I'd pour the mix through the screen, back and forth into two different bowls, 3-4 times is the most I would do this, that helped to remove as much plant matter as possible.
Be sure to rinse off the screen in-between each pour.

Once your butter is cooled/separated from the water, remove if from the water, shave off the plant matter left on the bottom, and place it in a bowl, or small Tupperware, then use a paper towel and give it a few blots, or smash it into the butter a bit, this will remove any excess water remaining.

Then pop it into the microwave for 20-30 seconds at most, then place it back into the fridge to harden up.

The butter should be good for a week, to two weeks man in the fridge.
If you need it to last longer than freeze some, then it should last for months if not longer.
