Cannabis Rosin(solventless hashoil)

Just got done making some of this for the first time with flower and a flat iron. Had previously done this with hash and a warm bowl, but just wanted to get a feel for doing it this way with flowers.

Must say it's very easy to do, hardest part was taking out the few pistils that got stuck in with the oil. I set my flat iron to 325f and held for 3 seconds while putting a ton of pressure on it. Held too long for my first trial and ended up getting some visible vapor.

Not as good as bho in my opinion, but not too far behind and it's definitely a cool little project to try.

OK I just upscaled a little bit. Used a clothing iron and a slab of granite with PTFE instead of parchment. Worked great.

So I have a ball of kif that I received as a gift and I want to clean it up into something better. The ball is potent and is a nice gold and you can't see too many contaminants.

Soaking it in 190proof alcohol is troublesome. After about 8 seconds exposed to the alcohol the solution is already Jolly Rancher Green.

I broke up said kif ball and re-sifted it and still after a few seconds exposed to alcohol it was too long of an exposure. No matter what I cannot run this stuff with alcohol without getting a dark product contaminated with chlorophyll.

I wanted to try this method but feel I have failed totally.

I put a glass bowl on top of pan on an electric skillet. I got the water boiling and the glass bowl was very hot to the touch. I started gently smearing the hash ball along the sides of the hot glass bowl. After about 5 minutes there was nothing on the sides of the bowl. All I had done was compressed the kif ball even more than it previously was.

What gives ? Is it the glass/pyrex bowl instead of a metal one ? I live at around 6,000ft Elevation and water boils at a lower temperature, do you think I need to get my temps higher (I have an infared thermometer).

that color is odd.. lol. very white or grey.. until melted down..

need to find a way to do this in a large scale way.. maybe with full plants.. lol .

I figured someone would be on to this soon. Can you report any yields from this method?

Pretty sure I'm around 10%. I'm sure it could be raised with tech refinement. The @soilgrown guy is already using a t-shirt graphic press with good success.

Haha that's a good idea. This is an interesting process. I'm looking forward to seeing how this pans out

if you heat with a heating iron aren't you activating the thc, making it kind of a waste of time?

I had better luck with stainless than I had with cermamics or glass.

You must be warm enough to smear.

lots of time.. to get very little yield back.. good for headstash.. for production.. iuno ud have to figure out a better way.. the press seems to be the most efficient way to do a lot at a time ..

I tried this last night with some half-melt bubble and a pyrex over boiling water. Didn't really get anything out of it. The hash was in granules (and a little dry) so I pressed it into a sheet first. Then using the bottom of a measuring spoon, I rubbed the hash back and forth across the pyrex until it was thinly smeared. I could see the cloudy areas (rosin) forming that comphashon mentioned, but the plant mater seemed to stick to it as well.

I think my mistake was not using a larger area of the pan. Rosin likely needs a clean surface to bond to. Next time I'm either going to try the parchment/ptfe method, or simply process a smaller amount and clean the pan in between runs.

Probably true as I checked my iron at 350* exactly. Anyway, I saw a guy using an iron on fresh buds and it appeared to juice out the anthocyanin- probably with the water vapor. Same stuff that makes the IWE water reddish.

His instagram is @TheFloristGroup

For those that asked about fresh bugs.
