I think he has enough money he can blow it anyway he wants. Tanking Tesla will put a crimp in the EV market.

EV cars are secondary for Musk. His primary goal is to map the roads for self driving cars. He wants to become the DOS software for future cars like Gates did with Microsoft for computers. Every time somebody uses his cars it's gets better and better reading and mapping the roads.
