Canadian Gorilla vs. Mother Nature

First grow diary so bear with me.

This is going to be a guerrilla grow breeding project. I want to get a few nice strains that are sativa dominate that will finish in my harsh Canadian climate.
I have several years of growing experience; most of which was indoors. But that was about 15 years ago. Having just ran across the forums recently I’ve been inspired by all the great growers to pull my green thumb out of my ass and try my own grow. I can’t grow indoors anymore so I’m going into the wilderness.
After spending far too much time this winter reading the forums (at least according to my girlfriend) I was amazed with the lengths you guys go to get materials up to your plots and then the effort you put in to the preparation and care of your plants. But I’m an old gorilla and the hair on my back is starting to turn silver. So there is no way I want to carry a bale of soil up a hill. I will try and build the best soil with what I can find in my plot area with basic amendments for PH and nutrients. So for my grow I’ve decided first and foremost I need to identify a strong strain that will flourish and produce decent yields of quality buds with minimal care. So I will not be pampering my strains at all, no spraying for bugs, no hand watering, no mould prevention, there will be stress. The strong will survive to the next step of breeding.

Viewer discretion is advised

Now onto my strains:
Bangi Haze, Tikal –Ace seeds
Durban poison, Shaman – Dutch passion
Serious 6 – Serious seeds
BC Pinewarp – BC Bud depot

After extensive research I picked stains that I felt had good resistance to mold and cold and are proven outdoor strains. All of these strains will be crossed with Bangi males. I picked the Bangi Haze for the pollen chuck because... well I’ve never read a bad word about this strain and the mold resistance is said to be amazing. I feel the pure Bangi will probably not have time to fully finish at my Latitude. All the other strains were picked with early finish in mind.

The seeds were started on 4/20/2015 and were grown indoors under a 80w cfl that I pulled out of the garbage. I kept the plants under low light so I could try and keep the height down. This was for transportation purposes. Everything is hiked into the plot in a backpack.

About 5 inches and going on 5th node. Ready for outdoors.

These were from the first visit. Looks like Mother nature has a firm grip on my new plot.

Looks like a good spot.

Just don't take the easy way in and leave a trail doing so.

I would circle around and come in from the right through those trees.

Lol, Trust me there is no easy way into this plot. No way in hell someone may stroll by. Some serious bush whacking is involved as well as a scramble down the side of a hill. Then there are my guards, about 10 billion mosquitoes the size of small birds.
Thanks for stopping in Featherfoot

I was surprised to find sand at my plot. Usually there is a small layer of soil then clay. So that's a bonus as far as I'm concerned. I mixed native soil and sand about 50/50 and added some lime, and fertilizer.
When I got home that day i tested the native soil mix it had sufficient-surplus levels of Potassium (k) and phosphorous (p) but very low levels of nitrogen (n). So I changed my plan and will just add blood meal.

And the Tikal, Which was a freebie from Ace. I really don't expect it to finish at my Latitude, but I thought I would give it a shot.

Sounds like a great approach. I never understood the thinking with dragging bales of peat into the woods either, from your backs perspective or soil building.

Looking forward to watching how this one goes :)

Plants were transplanted on May 25. I have been super busy with work and did not have all holes dug. So a few went straight into the ground and the rest into homemade pots.
Going to test different soil prep. Couple went straight into native soil, few will be put in holes with 3/4 cup blood meal added, ones in pots have lime, and a 4-8-4 organic fertilizer.

Tikal nothing added. Soil was a dark good looking layer about 6 inches deep

Durban poison

Shaman

The DP and Shaman that are in their final holes shown above are in this pic can you see them?

Good to see you buddy, I'm not doing Regalia. But the Serious 6 and Bangi will be put to the test for sure. Although they are all quite small still , Serious 6 seems most vigorous. Hopefully this journal will not be to painful for you to watch as they will probably not be nearly as healthy as yours look.
Peace GG

I have not been able to get these girl's to a plot yet.So I had to give them a haircut the other day. I did this to stop upward stem growth.

I will be keepin an eye on here, at the 53rd early finish will be the biggest key IMO I am at the 49th it has been a long quest for quality plants that finish and are very mold resistant.I have come to like semi auto's for this part of the climite the only one that I ever had finish nce was the freezeland which i kept for a few yrs then one winter the room got a lil to cool as I was away ice fishin...so I have started with Iranian auto from a certain dr n which I believe come from reibsi's A/A this strain is pretty sweet really. And would finish easily the wolf island sativa may need an indoor start there the gg2 , aswell as the fire 99, would all do well there.Cheers and best of luck on the season

Take later pics, want to see how that trimming works on growth pattern.

BTW per our convo Low Ryder http://www.seedsman.com/en/origins-of-lowryder

Today it seems to be replaced with LowRyder #2
http://www.seedsman.com/en/lowryder-2-autoflowering-feminised-seeds

Mine was about 30 inches from a stray seed.

I fell in love with LowRyder...need to get her back :)

I got Short Stuff #1 but I'm not happy with vigor.

Hope your frost is over up there!

45th

Those are some nice plants. I'm trying a few autos as well.
check out dutch passion: autoxtreme, starryder. They have some that could be what your looking for, short plants but massive buds.

Pinewarp gets pretty massive if given plenty root space and exposure...a pound of dried, manicured, not including larf/popcorn is very achievable...

Thx so much for stopping by and for the info. It's nice to hear from someone that grew out the strain. Would love to see some pic's if you have any.
