Can I Help U Free Yourself from Tobacco?

I did this thread at OG and some people feel my thoughts have helped them so here goes...

I know how hard it is to quit smoking tobacco once you develop a good habit. Have you ever seen old emphysemic patients still trying to smoke? I have had patients who smoked themselves to death and it isn't a pretty picture. Don't stop reading please.

Everyone beats up on smokers but that's blaming the victim actually. Let's try and be fair. Tobacco is very addictive and promoted by much in our culture still. Being a rebel and taking chances is normal for teens so it is really natural for these addictions to occur. Don't feel weak or stupid if you are burdened.

In 6 weeks I can have you off tobacco and thanking me if you are willing to do as I ask. You see I am an expert on quitting tobacco as I have done it at least 20 times.

I have had to have open heart surgery to bypass my clogged coronaries so let me tell you about what smokers can look forward to first.

One day you have shortness of breath or a chest pain that sends you to an emergency room. Oxygen and nitro will make you feel fine again but you will be scared shitless. They will keep you overnight and you will ponder your future. In my case surgery was in order and my life was over without it.

Don't wait until you get sick like I did young people. I really don't wish what I went through for anyone. I was an emergency and they had my chest open in 2 days. When I awoke with a tube down my throat into my lungs I realized my situation and began to retch and gag the EndoTracheal tube.

The people refused to take the tube out as I wasn't completely awake as yet but I couldn't stand it. I reached up and nearly strangled that male nurse and his eyes bugged out as I reached for his throat. I wantd the tube out now or I was going to strangle him. When they still refused my demand I wrote Valium 5 mg IV now! I know medicine you see and I knew why they wouldn't but i was choking and gagging on the tube and they were shit slow to realize it.

I survived my surgery and I quit smoking but will it take something like this to get you to quit? Maybe you won't be as lucky as me. BOG I am still alive to write for new magazines. Like IC mag... ;)

Did you know that pot can be the safer alternative?

I have learned my lesson but I even had one relapse long after my bypass. Drinking alcohol removes our rules and if you get drunk you might start up again so we are all recovering tobaccoholics actually. If even I can fail anyone can and as I stated I have quit 20 times probably. I am tobacco free and smoking pot does keep me off the tobacco but I do have some ideas. Thanks for the great ideas put forth so far my friends.

Mr or Ms. Smoker I wish I could hypnotize you but your own auto suggestion can help you begin. You must make a decision to quit once and for all first. This is very difficult but if you will do this for me I will help make it easier. First decide that you are going to quit and set the date. There need not be a week of crabbiness believe it or not if you use the patches.

You should wean down some before you actually quit. Can you get down to half a pack a day first? Do that over a period of about 2 weeks but quit any day you choose. Once you quit have a patch ready to use and use it. A medium sized or a small sized one of the 3 sizes will do depending on how large a monkey you have on your back. You should make sure you have plenty of pot available as it will be your substitute for the rest of your life quite probably.

Remember that good goal setting requires good committment and saying things like, "I am going to try to quit" are self-defeating. Make the decision to be free and then say, "I AM QUITTING THIS SHIT"! Think of the sports car and the clear lungs you would have now with all the money you have wasted to pollute your spirit. Are you with me? WILL YOU QUIT TOBACCO TOTALLY AND FOREVER?

You should. Why I bother to try this is because of my love for all young people and old people. I really like people as much as I like dogs, cats, horses, dolphins and elephants to name a few. Let's not forget those cute monkeys riding on our backs and fuk the Camels huh?

Smoking ain't cool either unless it's pot... this guy is dead from Cancer now. Remember the Marlboro Man? Stupid fuk. BOG

The gum or the patch or the lozenges or the sprays are all much safer and don't matter. Even if you need that for a long time it's ok. This addiction can be beaten if you believe in yourself. Temporary setbacks may occur but I warn against even one puff ever once ya quit. When the inevitable urges hit have something to deal with it. Never smoke tobacco again but if you do just quit again.

DeeMaxx, I like the way you didn't say you would try! Never say "try" people...Say it like DeeMaxx just said it. How proud he will be for doing this thing. DeeMax, tell everyone you are quitting just like that and I shall pray for your health sir. I know of many reasons for chest pains but if persistent I insist you visit a Dr. to be checked. Quit first and pray for a healing. If you believe me it can happen. I have been to the gates and back my friend and I can tell you that when you are scared you will find help. We aren't alone and you will never suffer more than you can bear. Fear not my friend and start over by having a fitness program now. Take it easy...don't overdo but give you constitution a chance to recover from the poison.

I believe many of us are allergic to tobacco in such a way that mucous builds up in our lungs and trachea. I have looked at people's mucus plugs in their air pipes with an endotracheal scope. As I sucked these from patients I would show others what smoking did to them and I still smoked at the time. Can you imagine this?

You see addictions aren't rational and tobacco can change your thoughts. When you get that monkey jumping your thinking and committment can change so being scared is a good motivator. Sorry if I scare anyone but quit or die choking in your own spit. BOG

Tobacco is a horrible evil with no reason to exist...curse Sir Walter Raliegh...he was such a stupid GET!

The lesser evil...

I lost my father not that long ago to cancer and I feel your sorrow. My father was proud that I quit tobacco and became physically active after my operation. He was proud of me for the willpower I showed everyone when my health was threatened. My family has always had proud men of strength and this was probably the thing I did that he most admired me for and I feel good about it.

My mom told me once of a dream she had the night before. She said that in the dream she saw people on rocks jutting up out of the ocean near the shore. It seemed that they were chained to these rocks as the tide rose. Mom was horrifed when she realized that these poor people had the keys to their chains and yet they would not unlock them to survive.

She wanted me to quit smoking back then so perhaps she just made the story up but I don't think so and it doesn't matter anyways because; "even fiction can demonstrate a truth". BOG

You have free will and free choice so I ask you to wise up and use your key today. Once you decide to quit you will do it.

Last 4/20 in the Dam... Live to meet me there each year!!

Imagine it this way.

You are in a Prison and you have just knocked out a gaurd and taken his keys.

Your path out of the prison will take you through 3 doors on your way to freedom.

For me the first door to freedom comes at 3 days Quit. The hardest part is this first step away from nicotine.

The next door is unlocked at 3 weeks Quit. Now you have accomplished something real and your urges to smoke come less frequently and are weaker.

The last door is at 3 months quit. By this door most people escape because you really have quit. Unfortunately there is a 4th door out there at 3 years to unlock also.

Like staying away from the law for the prisoner who escapes, so it will be for you. Resisting the temptation never stops.

Addiction is mental and physical. Freedom is better. You have the right to life. Now just smoke pot! BOG

Excellent!!! Ride brother...enjoy the freedom from the dirty weed called tobacco. Think of nicotine as Strychnine and you will be correct as 1 mg. of either poison will make you seizure to death.

Did you know that these 2 stimulants are very similar? If tobacco's active ingredient were Strychnine would you have started? So you see how Corporate America fuked us all again?

If something isn't addictive it's too weak for our masters to exploit us with it...

Tear off your yokes and wade out of the rising tide of the dying. Don't die with the fools in their own blood. BOG

I want you to be free...to live to enjoy the good things.

Cool thread BOG :)

I quit a couple years ago after 20 years of slow suicide.

You go to enough funerals and the descision makes itself.

Cold turkey, but I did use the patch. And it did help, not a magic bullet though.

Another aid is to change to a different brand of cig right before you quit, preferable the nastiest tasting ones you can find.Unfiltered works good.

I wonder if you can vape tobacco like herb?Still harmfull?

Great thread BOG!

Great thread BOG!

BOG

I have been a light smoker for many years. I guess I started smoking, because my wife smokes...and if you kiss a smoker it's terrible. But, it isn't so bad if you smoke yourself - almost as if smelling it all over yourself desensitizes you and makes it more bearable when you around another smoker. It is absolutely NO excuse. We make decisions and are ultimately responsible for them.

The question is this - I have tried to quit multiple times, but with my wife's refusal to quit...it seems to make it several times harder to quit. When I have been several days into quitting - I will be around her, especially when she is smoking, and the monkey seems several times bigger than normal. I can't stay away from wife - and it's not up to me to dictate when she will quit as that is up to her. I just have such a hard time being around her when I'm quitting. Any suggestions as to how I should address this situation?

Quit anyways or Divorce...

Quit anyways or Divorce...

My brother in law had throat cancer and quit smoking. He lived but his wife, my sister, refused to quit so he started up again. Not long after that my sister died of a smoking related disease and left him all alone. Maybe if you love your wife you can convince her to quit for her own sake if not yours. BOG

Great thread - I am over 2 years without those nasty pieces of shit! (oct.1, 2001) I started as a kid when I thought it was cool. I am now in my thirties and decided that if I wanted any chance of quiting and recovering now was the time. Best decision I ever made in my life. I had to quit the fine bud and beer for a short time to accomplish this but well worth it. I can take a much bigger bong rip without harshing.Lol. Most all of my friends smoke and I feel that as we get older I will unfortunatly get the chance to first hand see the damage a poison such as tobaco can cause. I try to encourage them to quit but it is their choice to make and I know what it is like to be nagged. BOG said it best - think of it as a poison such as anthrax or the such - would you ingest or inhale that shit - no way! Well the truth is not that much different. Quiting is not suffering, smoking is. I AM FREE AT LAST - :D

Gypsy Quit Tobacco

Gypsy Quit Tobacco

Most smart folks don't smoke anymore but addictions never go away and they aren't easy to quit. That's why they call them addictions. ;) Gypsy does not allow tobacco in his shops and I agree with him. Allow public pot smoking but Tobacco should be discouraged.

I don't want smokers to feel bad though. They are victims not criminals and they aren't bad people for their vice. Many judge pot smokers as badly or worse so who are we to judge? But, helping to discourage tobacco by promoting a little pot seems a worthwhile trade off to most people who have been the victims of tobacco. BOG

:) Just unlocked the third door today or yesterday.somewheresthereabouts!!!

I found that quitting smoking was near impossible so I just decided to forget that I smoked cigarettes instead. Figured that after smoking some 100,000 of them and not being able to remember but a mere few smoking must not be too memorable a thing. This thread came at a great time. Thanks BOG.

Great

Great

If you ever relapse just quit again and never stop quitting. The 3rd door is a big one and you should be proud of yourself for being smart. Ya know it aint reasonable or rational to be addicted to anything but addictions don't need logic. They run on our emotions and bodily cravings. Sometimes we do need to fool ourselves somehow so we suffer less. Many people have found different ways to quit. BOG They are all good. :)

It's harder for me

It's harder for me

Why can some quit when others struggle? Is it some how eaiser for some to give up the curse? Are some born with a pre- disposition to smoke. Do those who do quit like smoking less than those who can't? No! I am often offended by those who suggest otherwise. It was f****** hard as S*** to quit. I loved to smoke! After dinner, after sex, during sex, during dinner,in the car, in the house, with the cat and his mouse, we all love it it calms the nerves, soothes the soul, fills the void ,fills the hole. Ok enough drama the truth is that smoking kills. Not everyone, but are your loved ones worth the gamble? Unless you are a selfish basterd then the answer is NO! Don't believe me? Ask them. IT IS HARD! Except the fact that you are going to miss it and get over it. You will not stop wanting them, you just have to stop smoking them. IT SUCKS but who controls you if not you?

Now I need a smoke! NOT! SK.

Perhaps you don't get me

Perhaps you don't get me

I loved tobacco smoking and I quit many times for up to a year before my bypass operation. I was smoking 2 packs a day when I had my chest pains. Being a medical professional it wasn't acceptable for me to smoke but I did anyways.

Did I say it was easy. You may be the sort who is stubborn like me. You don't really want to quit and you don't like anyone telling you to do that which you don't wish to do.

I figure you will probably just keep smoking as patches cost money and you don't want to quit. You may deny this but if you wanted to quit you would take my advice and get some patches. You could choose to quit today but you won't. I hear ya.

So you can just wait for the inevitable. Don't do that. Please don't do that...What could I offer you to get you to quit? How about a visit to BOGLAND? Maybe seeds? If I could save your life I would be willing to pay for the priviledge. As a paramedic I never worried about being responcible for the actions of those I saved unlike some Chinese folks. ;)

I hope they were wrong...BOG :p Wouldn't you settle for unlimited amounts of my BOGBubble?
