how about your grow,
what's the specs on your AC-btu--wattage?
what are you using to keep things proper with your
3.4-ish kbtu per 1000w

not being a cannabis guy, i dont grow indoors.

the point i was making earlier is that you guys need to focus on the external heat gains, not the lighting heat gains.

the lighting is very easy to calculate givin its a known quantity.

instead of telling someone, 5kbtuh will do you.
perhaps ask, interior room? basement? attic?

it will all drastically effect the capacity of the equipment you need to buy.

I don't grow either. The other prominent load contributing to the 5k rule of thumb is latent load (moisture removal). It's my understanding that about four plants are under each light. Here is where I'll get in trouble; each full grown plant can transpire about 3 to 4 pints of water a day. On an hourly basis with lights on that would translate to roughly 1 pint per hour or 1.1kBtu/hr. We can debate accuracy, but I'm trying to give a general explanation. 3.4k+1.1k=4.5k. This would allow 0.5k for incidental loads and external heat gain through the envelope (walls, ceiling, floor, infiltration).

Thanks for all the input so far guys.

Out of curiosity, what is the impetus for you guys to share your extensive knowledge that do NOT grow? I find it intriguing.

i love grow peppers and toms and shit, im just not a weed guy.

i live in houston for fucks sake.

i used to grow indoors... just fucking around with high pressure aeroponics.

i got on this site way back when there were a number of folks on here and some other sight talking about High pressure aero
other sight was.... gardensecure? something like that.

Just an old nerd engineer with nothing better to do. Actually, I design and manufacturer dehumidifiers. Currently working on an 80 ton industrial project. Look up the facebook or website for Subcooled Air.

patience grass hopper, patience.
it's almost invariably the 1st Q, like the title of this thread :)
figuring your ac requirements for the number of lamps you plan on running is always a good starting point, eh,
and things progress on is a sensible way from there as to where etc etc
as long as your *properly insulated*
where in the house isn't usually a critical thing as shown
by numerous gro's here on the forums from attics to basements and into metal shipping containers.

what ive seen countless times and it seems to be playing out here to a degree is all the book smarts in china many times doesn't mean squat to a person having real day in and day out hands on experience doing something like growing indoors.
and double that if you
:smoke:

with respect to something experience and skill driven perhaps, but not with respect to something like this.

yea a mechanical engineer or what ever will make a dip shit mechanic without the years of hands on experience... but were talking about very simple principals here. heat in and heat pumped out.

by quantifying both you get a better handle on what is going on. its that simple.

yes your method works, but not as well as it could.
