California Orange aka Cali-O (for breeding)

Hopefully someone can help me here. My friend and I small breeders in Alaska, and we are having a friendly debate about the real California Orange. I was hoping the IC Family can help us with some background.
Back in the day, he researched it for a year,on and off. He says that it the real thing doesn't exist, except in clone form in California, where they go for $1000 for a cutting, and that ALL seed crosses are with a Skunk.
I have also done much research on this strain. From what I have gathered, Sam the Skunkman arrived in Amsterdam sometime around 1984 with many seeds, which were eventually sold to Nevil. When he had to leave Amsterdam, Nevil sold his seed bank and the Cannabis Castle to Ben Dronkers, who changed the name to Sensi Seeds.
This is why Sensi to this day still carries a lot of the original descents of what Sam originally brought over from California.
So, the question is, Does White Label, who is Sensi Seeds other company, carry the original California Orange Bud, as they claim? When you look it up, it has the same description as **********. eu, which lists it as California Orange AKA Cali-O.
If Sam, or Chimera, or anyone knows the history, please respond.
I know that Sensi sells California Indica, which is a cross with an Afghani. I have also heard of others that are crosses with Skunk. But I can find zero info that says White Label Sensi) is anything but California Orange Bud, aka Orange Bud.
This is what White Label Seeds says.
"California Orange Bud was brought from to Holland from California in the early Eighties and adapted for indoor and greenhouse cultivation"
ANY info would be GREATLY appreciated, and Thank you in advance.
(I just recently posed this in a couple old threads and then realized I should just make it a post)

from my friends research, the original Cali-O was taken to Amsterdam by clone, and that seeds of the California Orange Bud, aka Cali-O don't exist.
If Sam the Skunkman did indeed take it over to A-Dam, he made a post in Feb. 2016, where he says that he only sold Nevil seeds, no varieties. I take that as nothing in clone form.

I believe Sam was given Cali-O seeds at a harvest festival sometime in the 70's.
Not sure if he ever sold it pure? Mostly crossed with Skunk #1 and sold in bulk to the emerging seed companies of the time in holland, I think.

So are you looking for some orange weed to breed with? The story is hazy about this strain so look at seeds you grow instead of some stoner stories. Jillybean and agent orange get good rep and they are from a California clone if im not mistaken. EDIT nevermind its from a bagseed aquired in oregon from the mid late seventies. The bag or seeds used to grow said bag could have been cali weed you never know

Funny shit I just gotta phone call asking for her n bout her specifically...From what I remember the caliO aeric cut was a skunk to start just extremely orange flavored... I'm not certain bout this but having grown my fare share of skunks including the caliO cut digging for info I would say the cut you speak of is a skunk pheno that had different terps.. imo there's much better oranges out there the Cali O was lacking and left alot to be desired..

thank you guys. I'm going to read through the post from BillyCW, and see if that gets me anywhere.
Yes, we are seeking the real deal for small breeding projects in Alaska

Adam dunn show podcast.adam was a head breeder in a dam for th seeds. On his episode 2 covering the history of og kush, adam speaks with dave richards. Dave is a so cal native and claims to have knowledge of the history of california orange bud. Daves words are that the cross happened in 1980 between nor cal growers and socal growers.reputedly a x between northern lights #5 and skunk #1. Dave describes the bud having a huge skunky exhale, and the flavor being so orangey almost like an orange soda that is so orange tastinh that it becomes skunky.other strains that are credited to being a x of nl#5 and skunk#1 include jillybean, tange, and bubble gum so go figure.this is information i gathered from that episode pertaining to the genetics of the original cali o cut that floated around socal and eventually made it to a dam and the rest of the world.dave also concluded saying that the cut was lost so claims that it doesnt exist could be in fact true.

I love Cali orange. Best we could get for a while in the 90's.

That said, tangie and Clementine have a much stronger citrus flavor. Though I miss the skunky exhale coating your throat.

quoted from BillyCW thread...."In searching for a suitable line to start from I was stoked to see Bodhi working with the Aeric77 Cali O cut. Being from the cannabisworld era I remember this being the go to cali o cut on the boards. Researching as I do I've found 2 stories of where Aeric77 got these beans"

1st story-A selection of Flying Dutchman- Royal Orange which is California Orange X "the Pure"(orig sk#1)

2nd story which I found on a old site supposedly quoting AE from Overgrow- "My Cali Orange has a kind of sugary sweet taste and if you get too piggy on the inhale it'll blow your lungs up like balloons... everyone sits there smacking and licking their lips after a hit... kind of funny to watch. SCW, mine came as a present from a local grower who came here from California in the early 80's, he's been growing it since late 70's... all I know is that it matches all seedbank descriptions and is the most uniform growing plant I have ever seen... this guy spends half a year growing one crop in the woods and the rest of the year in the Carribbean laid back... I'm a newbie to this local group and the regulars don't question him so I don't either, all I know is I've yet to find any better buzz for me. Aeric77"

anybody know anymore of the back story behind this, or which version is true?

Steady Cropper, were they saying the original California Orange was created in 1980 by crossing those two, or that it was another cross that was done with the California Orange in 1980? thanks bud
