source of derision and laughter?! interesting generalization...
and to answer your question, this is both a good and bad thing.
good in that many people who opened up shop in california were motivated by greed, not compassion. This will weed them out. pardon the pun.
bad in that we are seeing our government flex its muscle in ways that have not been seen before, and what a time to do it...
the thing thats odd to me, is why so few letters, why not hook harborside up with a letter, or oaksterdam. makes me think that its really not every disp that is going to get the boot.
because really, how hard is it to copy and paste the name of the property owner on a memo. I figure I could do it here in a couple hours
http://www.celebstoner.com/201110228784/news/marijuana-news/feds-target-oaksterdam.htmlThe Department of Justice's campaign to dismantle California's medical marijuana industry is spreading to Oakland, where Coffeeshop Blue Sky (377 17th St.), owned by Prop 19's chief funder Richard Lee, has received an eviction notice. California NORML's Dale Gieringer says, "It smacks of politics."
Lee also owns Oaksterdam University and the Bulldog Coffeeshop (1939 Broadway). Blue Sky is within a block of a charter high school.
Steve DeAngelo has his own problems with the Feds, who've hit his Harborside Health Center with a $2.5 million IRS bill. One of the leaders of the so-called Oaksterdam community, DeAngelo maintains, "I warned everybody from the City Council on down who was pushing for those four huge farms that there would be consequences (referring to Oakland's plan to allow for industrial grow facilities that was derailed by a U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag). And I warned people who were pushing Prop. 19 that losing elections would have consequences. In large part what we're seeing is the consequences of an overreach by our community."
About Lee, DeAngelo adds: "Richard is an absolute pillar of the medical cannabis movement - he paved the way for a lot of us. It's absolutely critical that the community stand up and support Coffeeshop Blue Sky."
wow harborside too? crazy..
agreed completely. I dont agree with most peoples veiws on this thread as they have never been to or experienced life as a person who uses prop 215.
It seems like a lot of people hate on CA. I understand as most of America doesnt really like what it doesnt understand. i.e. racism. But the generalizations i read in here are pretty bad. There are lots and lots of places that are run by shady people but i would say with good faith the at for everyone of those there are ones that are there for compassion.
I think people also need to realize that just b/c people are making a living wage as a dispensary owner doesnt mean they are getting rich. Im sure some are but most are just cruising in life, enjoying their work and the fact they can do what they do.
You want to see peopple using the system for profit off sick people look at any pharmacy, walgreens ect...this is the definition of greed.
I dont agree with 60$ 1/8ths or shit like that, imo herb should be no more than 30 an 1/8th at a dispensary. But imo id much rather pay a little more then have none, or have to go to some shady dudes house to get it.
those shops in CO look fuckin horrible, never would you ever ever see me at one of those. Ill take a chill place where y anxiety and ptsd is calm not heightened by prison like atmosphere haha
