Butane honey oil for dummies

^^^^this

Seeds can make it autobudder and if there is enough it can effect the taste.

Does butane cause this to occur? I wonder if a quick wash with ethanol vs a butane extraction would solve this problem or limit the negative effects. I guess I am in a position to do some experiments myself.

My concern with removing all the seeds is destroying cell material and wreaking havoc on the buds which would add unwanted waxes chlorophyll, etc. I have been using the thermos method with fresh frozen and to gently remove seeds from fresh bud will be a nightmare.

I actually considered removing the seeds now to let the bud put energy into more bud production rather than maturing the seeds but that seemed daunting. If I must remove the seeds anyway maybe I will start plucking. Although I think the batch probably has thousands.

Any suggestions on how to remove the seeds doing the least amount of damage?

hey all. in the interest of time, i need to get myself a hot plate. how can i tell which ones are designed so as not to arc when they switch on? had a friend meet the fire department just that way. i'd rather not repeat that episode.

I have some seeded bud from an outdoor batch. I was hoping to just process whole buds using the thermos method and was wondering about having seeds in the mix.

By seeded I mean pretty well covered with seeds. I have no use for the seeds but would be time consuming to remove and also did not want to handle the buds too much as they are coated with trichs.

Can anyone with experience let me know if seeded material can be loaded and produce same results. Seems like it should be no problem but want to make sure.

I can definitely taste seeds in oil. I would remove them.

I did a bunch of runs with seeded indoor, yeild is garbage and I could taste the seed in 50% of my oil, the little amount I was able to make off seeded buds

sounds like leaving them in is not a good option, you can use a pointy scissors to kinda leverage the seed out of the buds, without breaking the buds more then needed. but if the buds are really full of seeds, there is no way to maintain the buds structure, lol. good to know that seeds leave a taste in the oil.

1. what's a good hot plate that won't arc when it kicks on?
2. how deep a vacuum do i need to pull for a good purge?
3. are dry pumps worth looking at or is one that takes oil necessary?

We use lab hot plates, which are made for the purpose. http://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=318002011

We pull to -29.9" Hg. It isn't necessary to pull to the micron level and you can boil off terpenes, including cannabinoids at low vacuum. Check out the attached chart that I scored off Forum X from Skyhighler.

Not sure I understand the last question. We mostly use a CPS VP6S single stage rotary vane pump for purging, but prefer our surplus military medical MASH pump for cold boiling, because it doesn't flood the crankcase.

I've run many many many tubes of seeded herb, there is no need to remove them at all as they also remain 100% viable. Are you guys grinding your weed?

Auto butter due to seeds? you sure about that one?

I have been running bho for 15 years, IMO seeded vs sensi nugs, same oil comes out the other end.

First of all , I want to thank everyone who has contributed to this amazing thread , thank you all for the information & inspiration. I finally bit the bullet & have been making a few batches of BHO over the last 3 days. Strains included are Medicine Man, CBD Crew Critical Mass, Z99, Cherry Candy Fuel, Jack O Nesia , Vortex & Pursang Haze. I used a small 9" pie dish to collect & scrape the oil. As I was doing a few scrapes, I should have had the camera setup nearby to get a few shots of amber on the razor but I didn't get around to it being a bit stoned.... But later I did manage to get a couple of shots of MM/CCF mix oil in a vintage glass bottle. Not the best shots but you can see the colour at least. :blowbubbles:

get some teflon bags to do your purging in, once purged place in freezer. Once frozen you can peel it out of the bag leaving none behind, but be quick as the warmth of your hands will quickly melt it.

HM, I was wondering if the extra oilyness was hemp seed oil come'n out of the seed. . . But most all of the seeds I have found in core samples I've dissected have all had their casings intact.. . Like a little alien spaceship destined to blow up into that 8' monster you want to spread her oily love! They seem to be pretty rugged/durable. You find that running seedy batches open your seed casings up?

I've got some questions.

Is there any differences in potency, taste, and stability; between shatter made with everclear, and shatter that is vaccuum purged? I have never made either and really want to try it out.

Huge differences in everything except stability, if shatter is made correctly with out winterizing it should remain stable.
